Acerca de su propietario/a
Propietario/a: Villa 7 L'Amandier
We are two sisters who live near London and are also the greatest of friends. Alex is an interior designer and I, Sally, am an international landscape designer. As youngsters we travelled the world with our parents and eventually settled back in in the UK in Surrey. Alex has two daughters who are following in our footsteps by not only being sisters but also the greatest of friends. Alex is always threatening to retire but something always comes up to prevent her from actually hanging up her pattern books. I have no intention of retiring for some considerable time apart from the fact that I would love to spend more time at the Villa! Both of us are extremely busy and do not understand how to actually slow down. Our families, although initially bemused by our venture in Morocco are thoroughly supportive and now that they too have visited on numerous occasions are as in love with Morocco, Marrakech, Villa 7 and our Berber friends as we are. Certainly it came as a surprise to both Alex and I that we when we decided to buy a second home that it wasn't within kicking distance to our home base. Although today there is considerable concern regarding the unstable situation in other parts of North Africa we have never felt threatened in Morocco. Morocco is ruled by a very forward thinking king, Mohammed VI, who works extremely hard to bring Morocco into the 21st C. He is tackling the immense problems of poverty and corruption while improving the poor human rights record. He is very much the liberal leader today and is whole-heartedly supported by his subjects. His considerable investment in tourism, which he sees as one of Morocco's key industries, is to be seen everywhere. It was knowing his philosophy that helped us make this key decision to purchase a villa in Ouirgane.
Por qué escogió este alojamiento
For several years I had visited Asni (staying at the Kasbah Tamadot) with a girlfriend. It was just an amazing experience. Within minutes of being in the Atlas Mountains you felt the benefits of clear air, blue skies, white snow-capped mountains and peace. A holistic experience. On my first trip I took a walk through the mountains, slipped an broke my wrist. This accident did nothing to diminish my growing love of the country. The help and care that I experienced was fabulous. We still know Adbul who helped me down to Marrakech to get my wrist set and also know his family, mother, brother, sisters, cousins and now his wife and children. In fact we are friends ten years later with many of the people I met on that first trip. I thought it was time to introduce Alex to the Atlas Mountains. Within a short space of time, she too was in love with the area. On this trip, quite unexpectedly we visited a plateau in the Toubkal National Park. A small development of 13 private villas and boutique hotel was in the early days of construction. The views were just so beautiful, the tranquility was almost palpable. And we knew that we had found our second home. At that stage it was just a skeleton but we could see that this contemporary low-lying building was going to be a fabulous retreat from the hurly burly at home. The developer, a British company, MHK International, and the architect, Nick Gowing, seem to have captured the essence of the Berber village nestling in the mountains without being a pastiche. The private gardens would provide a sense of security and privacy while the communal gardens would provide a scenic link to the other villas and the proposed hotel. The hotel amenities would also be offered to the villa owners and their guests so the villa, although in the middle of the plateau, would not be cut-off from civilisation. And then there was that view. How could we walk away? Our villa, at the end of the development has the best aspect of all!
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
We fell in love with this spacious three bedroomed villa. Although it appears compact it is actually very roomy and there is enough space to not be on top of one another. It is built from traditional materials and earth coloured plaster. Only one storey high. Throughout the villa traditional methods and materials have been used from the tadelakt walls through to the bejmat tiles but modern amenities have been integrated into the build. Inside you enter into a large hall furnished with modern and traditional Moroccan pieces reflecting the red earth colours. All the major rooms lead off the hall, including the three large bedrooms called: Rose, Gold and Blue. Their ceiling to floor doors open out onto a small private courtyard with its fragrant orange tree. The sun rises in the morning over the mountains and warms these rooms as the light streams through the windows. On the other side of the hall is the open-plan living area. Again ceiling to floor windows and doors open out onto the private terrace, but the most important feature of this aspect is the view of the mountains and almond plateau. Absolutely breath-taking. Often in the morning you will walk out onto the terrace in your dressing gown to just admire the magnificent view and listen to the bird song. You can while away a lot of time just absorbing the atmosphere. What's even just as special is watching the shepherds walking their sheep and goats along the edge of the garden to their pastures. They used to stop off and crop our grass until the perimeter fence was erected. A plunge pool on the terrace helps you cool down if it all gets too hot. If you want even more impressive views, there is the roof terrace which comes into its own at night when the skies offer even more distraction with glorious sunsets and at then the stars - just incredible.
