Bienvenido a Casa Corazon del Mar (casa del corazón del mar). A tan sólo tres minutos de la playa. Se trata de una muy singular, hogar cúpula de estilo de adobe situada en un jardín colorido exuberante en la selva. La casa cuenta con una cocina completamente equipada y un dormitorio. Casa corazon del mar también cuenta con una piedra única río, lavadero estilo spa con ducha de lluvia, ducha de mano y ducha de pizarra banco. Cama de matrimonio. Espacio al aire libre incluye piscina y plataforma de observación de la naturaleza con cómodas sillas Adirondack y una hamaca.

Literally a hidden gem! This place is awesome!

Eric was absolutely awesome. He did everything he could to make sure we were comfortable during our stay! ...He even had massages set up for us in the dome! How cool is that! Definitely come here... it’s a once in a lifetime experience!

Amazing experience!

We stayed 4 nights in Casa corazon del mar. A unique and so rewarding experience! We saw frogs, toucans, sloths, several varieties of birds, not to mention the sounds in the jungle during the night. The casa is clean and very comfortable. It is located a few minutes walk from the city. The hosts, John and Eric, are always available and really friendly. A perfect stay! Nathalie and Stéphane

John and Eric were fantastic! Anything you needed it questions of were to eat, what to see etc. we're always answered and never disappointed! You got a true feeling of what it was like living in a Jungle and be aware as you are living with nature ad there are no screens on your Windows.... absolutely a great experience...

Literally INCREDIBLE 'Hobbit House' in the jungle!

Me and my husband spent 6 nights in what we affectionately call, 'The Hobbit House' and it was incredible. I have never stayed somewhere so unique and well thought out from small touches such as the beach bag with towels and a beach blanket, and the bamboo sink and shower handles! You are immersed within the jungle with many critters to keep you company (they do leave you alone and are actually quite cute)! We loved every minute of our stay and the hosts, John and Eric go out of their way to make you feel at home and make sure your stay is at comfortable as possible. If you get the chance to stay here then DO!!

Could not have wished for a better stay

The Adobe was unique and inviting. An incredible space to enjoy the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Nature is all around you and is a quick bike ride or walk into town. Jon and Eric could not have been better hosts. They are the real treasure in this VRBO. Their restaurant recommendations were spot on., and were guided to the real Puerto Viejo. They took the time to guide us in when we were lost getting there ( quite literally guided us with flashlights), and took the time to point out the local wildlife. We look forward to visiting again. Thank you again.

Absolutely Fantastic!

We loved our stay here. The pictures don't do this adorable "dome" justice. We loved how secluded it was but yet so close to town. John and Eric were wonderful! If we needed anything they always had the answer. We can't wait to go back again! I would highly recommend anyone that loves nature and the outdoors to stay here. You will see plenty of wildlife. My favorite place quickly became the hammock in the look out area. Such a beautiful view! I don't think you will find better accommodations in Puerto Viejo. If you're trying to decide whether to make reservations here, stop deciding and do it! You will not be disappointed.

Beautiful house in a peaceful jungle setting!

We loved our 5-night stay at Casa Corazon del Mar! It is a truly unique dwelling located in a peaceful jungle setting within a quiet neighborhood. This home is very comfortable and inviting, with beautiful interior features and garden landscaping. We enjoyed the pool, including just sitting by it, reading, and watching the life of the jungle around us. We also spent a lot of time on the wildlife viewing platform. We loved the continual sounds of the birds and insects. We saw plenty of local wildlife including many birds, sloths, and an emerald basilisk. Eric and John are excellent hosts, and were very helpful with anything we needed. We look forward to revisiting this wonderful vacation house again! Many thanks to Eric & John for helping make our vacation very special!

Exceeded Expectations!

We were expecting a unique experience in this open-air jungle hobbit dome for our 10 days Costa Rican vacation and to say the least, were not disappointed! We have traveled the world and taken the back roads, when possible to experience the natural cultures, landscape and people and this was on top of our list as favourites. John and Eric could not have been more hospitable. I felt like we had our own jungle butlers and guides :) Every day there was something else to experience on their property, from the sloths, monkeys, toads at the pool,/ toucans flying above us, & bats in the observatory. It was hard to go away each day to explore, when we had - really - our own wildlife preserve all around us. Everything was marvellous and we will most definitely go back. Can't wait for the new home they are building down the path from this one. It's going to be amazing, as well. Thank you, Eric & John!!!

Paradise

My wife and I recently stayed in the dome for a little over 2 weeks. It almost seems surreal now, a flawless experience. The owners John and Eric were nothing short of awesome. Very passionate about the property, taking every opportunity to share local knowledge and make sure our stay was flowing smoothly. They consistently made every effort possible to ensure our comfort. The location is perfect, definitely 5 star. Set back in the Costa Rican jungle, we were just a 5 min walk away from the quietest beach we have ever seen, other beaches just a short ride away, and a 15 min walk to the grocery store and all the shops in town. There is a definite energy to the place which has infused a lasting impression on us. From the unique styled living in the adobe home, the many natural wonders, to the friendly locals who never hesitated to engage. This journey for us was unparalleled. A unique and wonderful experience

Unlike anywhere else we’ve stayed, this little house in the rainforest is memorable for its uniqueness of design, it’s natural setting, and the friendliness and attentiveness of John and Eric, our hosts. The experience was similar to camping - surrounded by the sights, sounds, and creatures of the rainforest, but without the set-up and pack-up, but with John playing the roles of host, guide, concierge, and new friend. Bear in mind that Casa Corazon del Mar is not luxury accommodation - no air conditioning, no big screen TV, no valet parking, no window screens or glass, no plush King-size pillow-top mattress, and plumbing drains as slow as everywhere else in Puerto Viejo, but if you are looking for a relaxing stay in a lush rainforest where bullfrogs, tree frogs, butterflies, hummingbirds, bats, birds and other forest creatures are your closest neighbours, Casa Corazon del Mar will make for fond memories of your visit to the Costa Rican Caribbean coast. The plunge pool was cool and inviting after a day in the sun, heat, or humidity. The comfy arm chairs next to the pool in the main living area of the house were great for relaxing and curling up with a good book, or sitting and reminiscing on the day’s travels. The upper deck, with it’s 360 degree views of the forest, was a great place to linger over morning coffee. John and Eric generously provided bread, coffee, eggs, snacks and drinks for us, and made us welcome from the moment we arrived. John arranged for transportation, made dining and tour recommendations, and gave us lots of advice to ensure we had a safe, happy and enjoyable stay.

I’m surprised there was no mention of water draining slowly while you were here. Normally there is no issue. Had you mentioned it I would have corrected it. One in a while things drain slowly from sand in the shower. But as always we appreciate valuable input from our guests.

Magical Visit!

Everything advertised about Casa Corazon del Mar was 100% accurate—in fact it was better than advertised. John was a wonderful host…greeted us upon arrival, made sure we had dinner reservations in town for our first night in Puerto Viejo, and even had a bottle of champaign waiting for us knowing that the trip was an anniversary celebration for us. The house was beautiful, and the gardens were truly magical. You truly are close to nature in this house! We almost did not want to leave to visit the beaches because we so enjoyed sitting in the observation deck listening to the sounds of the jungle. We genuinely enjoyed watching the various species of birds, frogs, geckos and the eight bats that live way up in the observation deck! We were even fortunate enough to experience a close-up visit from the howler monkeys and the sloths that live in the area. The visit to Casa Corazon del Mar and the area around Puerto Viejo was wonderful—should be on everyone’s bucket list.

Our favorite stop in Costa Rica

We decided to check out Puerto Viejo due to the recommendation of a local upon arriving in Costa Rica. We stayed here for 3 nights during our honeymoon, and we wish we could’ve had at least a week more here! The community stole our hearts. This property is lush and private and the home is so creative and unique. We loved the open air experience! The hosts are exceptionally warm and helpful. Upon our arrival, John immediately called their favorite restaurant and made a reservation for us. They arranged our bike rentals to be brought to the property, and even picked up one of the guys from the bike shop and quickly met us to replace a wheel that went flat. They made our stay so seamless and enjoyable. Our experience in Puerto Viejo was a highlight of our month in Costa Rica. Seriously, you won’t regret booking this lil dome home!

Wonderful time in Puerto Viejo

One of the best. Owners were very friendly and helpful. The place was awesome. It was our first time there and they were gracious with there time helping us with any thing we needed. They set up a ride from San Jose, taxi driver who we used all of the trip. And helped us with our COVID test to get back home. If you ever get a chance to stay here, you will not regret it.

Retirement Celebration

This was just what my husband and I needed to relax after 40 years of dedicated work. From the beginning, John & Eric were fantastic hosts. They respond so quickly I think their phones are attached to their ears. The house is indescribable. You have to see it to believe it. From the moment we saw the gate. Once through the gate, the tranquility engulfed us. The grounds took our breath away. You do not want to miss out on this incredible jewel. Thank you John & Eric. We will visit again. For those reading this review, they have other fabulous places also.

PARADISE!

There are no words to describe Eric and John as hosts! It took a long to get there because of the covid restrictions. It took about 7 months before I could get there and they worked with me every step of the way. Upon arrival late into the evening Eric fixed me dinner. During my stay they educated me about CR. I could go on and on but just believe me if you are going to Costa Rica you should stay with John and Eric. You will not regret the choice. It is heaven.

Unique womb in the Jungle

We had a lovely time in the comfort and zen of this unique abode on this lush jungle property. You feel miles away just a short distance from the amenities of Puerto Viejo & short walking distance to the amazing beach with black magnetic sand. John & Eric were gracious hosts with excellent & always prompt communication. If you are in need of deep sleep from weary travels or a busy lifestyle, this bedroom will definitely provide it! Magical place in perfect location

We loved our stay here. John and Eric are wonderful, welcoming hosts - most accommodating homestay host we’ve ever had! They can give lots of recommendations. The location is perfect because it feels so tucked into the jungle (we saw a sloth and several frogs) but a short walk to the beach and into town. The house itself is truly a work of art and we had so much fun staying there. We hope to return!

My wife and I stayed in the adobe house for one night. It was awesome. We loved listening to the sounds of the jungle. John and Eric are great hosts. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to lots of rain. We decided to head to the other coast for the rest of the week.

Living with nature, Wonderful!

This rental wasn’t far from the main road, the beach, nor the local community of Puerto Viejo, but all of those things could have been miles away when you’re sitting around Casa Corazon Del Mar! Even the neighbors which were only the equivalent of 2 lots away, were barely noticeable. All thanks to the natural rainforest and John’s grooming of the plants. We chose to just sit and enjoy our surroundings at least part of each day/evening and all day twice. Why go on tours when you can sit at home and watch bats, geckos, frogs, birds (too many kinds to mention) and best of all, sloths!! One thing to remember when booking a stay at Casa Corazon Del Mar, is that this home has no screens in the windows. In a way it was like camping because not only are you living with nature, but it is living with you. We were not bothered with mosquitoes at all and the netting around the bed insured that we had no bugs bothering us while we slept (unlike the tents we slept in over the years!), but there were spiders (non invasive and cool to watch) geckos, praying mantis etc that lived with us. Occasionally a large flying bug would zoom through the house but so would hummingbirds! A green toed red frog lived in the foliage between our living room and pool and would often give us sass even though he was only the size of my thumb 😄. These things make this vacation home an experience, not just a place to stay. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this vacation home and didn’t want to leave. Thank you John and Eric for sharing with us and being such wonderful hosts 😘

A Very Special Place

Home in the Dome. Tranquility enveloped us in this unique and special place. Nestled in this thoughtfully landscape rain forest property we found the perfect ingredients for some much deserved R&R. The sights and sounds of the jungle surround you, sunlight filters through the tree canopy overhead, resident sloths demonstrate the proper pace for regaining a sense of leisure and ease. And of course the Dome, well it's like being inside a hug. As wonderful as the surroundings and the dome are it was the gracious, patient and caring hospitality of our hosts John and Eric that made this a truly special, in the best way possible, experience. They are the gold standard. We are now back home in the chilly and wet Bay Area. The glow of casa corazon del mar and the warmth of our hosts will see us through the remnants of winter. Unique quiet property in a fun area

You’re in the jungle when you stay at this property! It’s open air, which means sometimes the little creatures come to you, like lizards and prying mantis. We used the kitchen for breakfast everyday and slept great locked up in the little bedroom which is covered by the “veranda “. When it rained a ton, you couldn’t hear it from the room. A baby sloth was up in the trees in the path to the house. We enjoyed the beaches to the south and north. Good bakery/coffee spots in Puerto Viejo and tourist shops. I loved the sloth sanctuary and paid big bucks for the behind the scenes tour. I saw the NICU with 15 baby sloths that had been brought in for various reasons, like injury or abandonment. Unfortunately they will become permanent residence of the place because no one can teach a baby sloth to be an adult sloth but it’s mother.

Amy, first of all thank you for staying with us we appreciated all those who choose to stay with us. However, both John and I are shocked to receive a 4 star review from you... it is the first non 5 Star review we have received. We feel that we went above and beyond what most hosts do in this industry. You stayed a brief 3 nights with us and when you arrived you were greeted with a bowl of fresh fruit, coffee for the morning and of course alcohol so you could have a drink after having driven to get to us Fresh cut flowers decorated the dome and we greeted you at your car to bring in your bags We answered all your questions, were available 24/7 made reservations at restaurants and more things that are far too many to list I’m just not sure what we could have done to have made you any happier or at least happy enough to have given us a 5 Star review That being said, thank you for the short stay with us John and Eric
