Relaxing retreat above Aptos

We enjoyed our two nights with Judy and Pete in their gorgeous home. We were able to just relax and talk about some important issues in a beautiful peaceful atmosphere.

This is a very special place. Tucked away in the hills of Aptos, it's quiet, scenic and relaxing. The room was very cozy and while there's only a refrigerator and microwave, the property is so nice, after eating out one night, we just brought takeout dinners home and sat out on the deck (check out Gayle's bakery and the salad/hot bar at New Leaf). The highlight was the pool and jacuzzi, can't say I've ever seen a nicer indoor pool at a private residence.

Peaceful location

We have returned to this property year after year because of the quiet and beautiful location. The bright sunshine and cool ocean breezes without the beach traffic is just what we love. Aptos village has a couple of terrific wine tasting rooms, eclectic shopping and restaurants for all types of cravings. The only “downside” to this visit is that I am now hooked on Nespresso and may need to buy a new coffee machine . Looking forward to next year already!

This is a lovely property with vineyard and ocean views. The owners are friendly but not intrusive. If you're looking for a place that is away from tourist crowds but just minutes from local attractions, this is it.

The perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

My husband and I had a very relaxing two night stay. The winery was close to restaurants and boutique shops but we spent a lot of time at the property sitting on the porch playing board games or and enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

Quick Getaway

Lovely property with gorgeous view of the ocean. Quiet neighborhood tucked up into the hills. It was perfectly located so we could go to Capitola, Santa Cruz, and Aptos beach easily. Eager outdoor kitty who wants to hangout which was fun for my daughter. Complimentary bottle of their estate wine which was excellent.

Beautiful retreat

A cozy and charming room in a beautiful home with friendly and accommodating hosts. The property was exactly as described and pictured on the website. My only disappointment was that access to the property was via a one-lane mountain road which, as a single senior female, was somewhat intimidating and I had a sense of isolation. It would have been helpful to know about that.

A Wonderful, Relaxing Stay

My friend and I had a most enjoyable stay. The property is beautiful - pretty landscaping, a thriving small vineyard and an enclosed swimming pool, sauna and spa which helped us feel quite pampered. The view over the ocean in the distance enticed us to have more than one picnic on our verandah. The property is situated close to Capitola and downtown Santa Cruz, yet has a tranquil feel all its own. Judy is the perfect host (available and welcoming yet respectful of our privacy) and the complimentary wine was so good we bought a second bottle (and should have brought home more). Looking forward to a return visit!

The great escape

This property is such a hidden gem. Gorgeous view of the ocean, vineyard and treetops. The landscaping is welcoming and I laid on the grass staring up at the sky for a while just enjoying the weather and peace. We used the pool and hot tub both days. They are wonderful. The owners were on site, helpful and kind. They left a complimentary bottle of wine which we enjoyed. We loved the cat that came over to us when we ate on the porch. Pro-tip: Soul Salad is a great spot to eat, we loved it.

Our daughters wedding weekend

Although we didn’t meet Judy, she was a joy to communicate with via email. Her husband Peter was delight to chat with. A lively bedroom , bathroom , kitchenette space with all the amenities you need - and even a bottle of wine to welcome us. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to relax and enjoy the property and the pool as we were out and about at our daughters wedding all weekend. We would love to come back again for a relaxing visit to enjoy the area. THANK YOU!

Absolutely Fabulous

This place most certainly exceeded our expectations. Everything was very clean and had a warm ambiance to it. There was a bottle of red pinot for us to enjoy, and that was most certainly very much appreciated, as well as the coffee and the organic creamer. We had a brief interaction with Judy, and she was very pleasant. Even though the room is part of Judy's home, we certainly did not feel like our privacy was invaded. We utilized the pool, the sauna, and the hot tub, and relaxed on the large patio which has a spectacular view. We drove downtown on Friday morning, that took us about 45 minutes as there was quite a bit of traffic, and the drive to the boardwalk on Saturday morning took over an hour! That was bad timing on our behalf, we didn't leave until about 10ish, we should have left earlier in anticipation of heavy weekend traffic. The only thing that I could suggest (which most definitely is not a deal breaker) is to have a small tub to wash the dishes in. Bottom line, it was a wonderful experience, we thoroughly enjoyed the place and will most definitely come back again.

Wonderfully Relaxing Retreat

Beautiful quiet clean cottage with all the amenities for a close to home getaway. Our host Judy provided excellent communication down to the step-by-step directions that were super helpful. My husband enjoyed chatting with Judy’s husband, I believe his name was Peter, but for the most part our hosts left us alone and we felt like we had the whole vineyard to ourselves! We loved Beau the cat and seeing bucks and deer casually eating on the grass in front of the porch. The sauna and hot tub were wonderful; however, we found the pool to cold to swim. We later found out it is heated by solar panels so temp is dependent on weather. Totally understandable but a letdown as that the indoor pool was a main factor for me to be able to swim. Next time I will plan on a month with warmer weather. Other than that, I highly recommend Pacific Oaks Vineyard Estate!

My go to serene getaway

This lovely sunny spot is now my go to get away besides Ashland and Mt. Shasta. Nestled at the top of a Redwood mountain with a view of Monterey Bay and a beautiful indoor pool hot tub and sauna practically all to ourselves. And Santa Cruz and all sorts of beautiful beaches are a short drive away! I’ve done this trip with my teenage daughter and this recent one with a girlfriend. It’s always so serene and extraordinarily beautiful. My next stay here might just be a solo Spa, meditation and writing retreat. Love this place. And Judy the host is so down to earth and thoughtful.

More than we expected

My husband and I had a wonderful, quiet and peaceful stay. We loved watching a deer and her fawn grazing with no fear of us being close by as we drank our coffee in the sunroom and later on the deck. We were also able to enjoy the pool and hot tub by ourselves. The stay was perfect and we will be coming back again to stay longer in the future.

Wonderful getaway!

For our first vrbo booking, this was excellent! Property was beautiful, private and relaxing. Our room had everything we needed. We got to use the pool and spa whenever we wanted. Judy was a great host. Their wine was amazing and we got a bottle to go. Would definitely recommend this place for a peaceful getaway. Close to beaches, shops and great restaurants!

Lovely spot!

Lovely spot! My 16 yr old daughter and I really enjoyed staying in the Vineyard guest room. We loved the 24 hr p/day access to the indoor pool and hot tub. I especially loved the sauna. And we definitely appreciated the sun porch and the ocean view! And Beau, Judy’s adorable cat adopted my daughter while we were there. Sweet experience. We will be back for sure!

Wonderful property and Judy was extremely nice

I was a little Leary about it being a room rental instead of a house rental. It was super private and there was lots of fun stuff to do on the property itself. Magnificent views and incredible hospitality. Thank you for a wonderful stay Judy.

We designed and built our home in 1987 and had the opportunity to rebuild it after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake! Our 4 children are grown now so we have the time to enjoy our property and vineyard. We grown Pinot Noir grapes and produce estate bottled wine.
We feel absolutely fortunate to live in the Santa Cruz area and on this property.
