Casa La Higuera está ubicado en la colina en el borde de la hermosa aldea de montaña de Canillas de Albaida y el parque nacional de la Sierra de Almijara, a menos de una hora en coche del aeropuerto de Málaga. Esta atractiva villa, bien equipado, con vistas únicas al mar y las colinas que rodean todavía está a poca distancia a pie de supermercados y restaurantes. Casa La Higuera ofrece 3 dormitorios dobles de buen tamaño y 2 baños. Uno de los dormitorios dobles y cuarto de baño se encuentra en un anexo separado a unos pasos de la casa principal, con su propia terraza, perfecta para los visitantes que buscan privacidad o abuelos que desean escapar un poco de paz y tranquilidad. En el exterior, la propiedad tiene su propia piscina 8mx4m privado y un montón de zonas de sombra para sentarse para relajarse y comer. Hay una barbacoa para uso de los huéspedes. Wifi e internet está disponible en la propiedad.

Relaxing break

Beautiful property set in the most gorgeous location. The view of the mountains is stunning and we really enjoyed watching the sun setting each evening. The only thing we would add to the property would be air conditioning but we did visit at the end of July. I expect it would be fine during cooler times of the year.

Nice Villa with stunning views

Villa is typically Spanish in decor, clean and spacious. Outside garden area and pool is very well kept. The annex worked well for our party size too. We were only there a few nights and visited the lovely local villages for a few hours. Other than that we just chilled around the pool and patio seating area watching the swallows nesting in the roof. Some constructive criticism would be for sun shades / parasols to be provided

Excellent location in a beautiful area.

The house was very nice and well equipped and the outdoors area was great. The pool was lovely and the views/location were excellent. Watching the sun go down over the mountains was just glorious. We would hope to return one day and would be very interested in the property if it ever came up, it really was excellent. A couple of slight negatives: the nights proved to be very hot as the house has no air con, but we did go in 35+ daytime temperatures and the celing fans were otherwise very good. Also, whilst the wildlife was lovely; geckos, swallows, lovely butterflies, etc, the insect life was a bit bitey on a night whilst outside, so get some repellent on. There was no issue with biting insects inside though.

We love this area of Canillas and the neighbouring village of Competa

We were very disappointed with the lack of communication before our visit. The details of locating the villa and the supposed meeting of the manager was three years old. The television only worked on the last two days of our ten day visit - during which time the Queen had died. We asked for the pool to be cleaned a couple of days before we left but we never heard from Simon again.

We are very disappointed that you felt that you were not looked after. We consider this house to be very well maintained our service level is extremely good and our team respond quickly. We contacted you on many occasions prior to arrival via VRBO and advised of the new property management team and their contact numbers, they also made many efforts to call and message via Whatsapp as per our instructions. Also several emails were sent with their contact details prior to your arrival with the new check-in instructions. Unfortunately there was a TV satelite issue which meant the system needed re-programming & the dish re-aligning, the engineer came at his first available appointment. It is unfortunate that this coincided with the sad news of our beloved Queen's departure. Simon attended to the pool on 3 occasions during your stay, on each occasion you were not present at the house. We have taken onboard your comments. kind regards

Twelve good days in spain

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Casa La Higuera, the house itself is excellent with everything we needed, the third member of our party ( a friend ) stayed in the Casita, her only complaint was that she thought that a small fridge in the Casita would have been useful as it would have allowed her to keep water for drinking cool over night. The outside space is good, we dine outside the whole of our stay, however the outside furniture is rather tired and could do with replacing, also we were unable to use the sun umbrellas as there are no bases. Lastly although only one of our party used the pool we did feel that a clean and some maintenance would have been beneficial. The road access to the house is a bit daunting first time but after two or three journeys was not a problem and to be able to walk to Canillas de Albaida via the shortcut is a big bonus as it meant we only needed to use the car for longer journeys. Taking everything into consideration I must reiterate that we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Casa La Higuera.

Villa with a stunning view

Booking straightforward. A long way up a windy mountain road which is laborious after a while. Villa down a very steep track which gets tretourous after heavy rain. Unable to use main gate and pathway to villa due to deep gullies which made it difficult lift and carrying 23kgs case up and down many steps to the villa. Pool lovely but needed a good clean to remove green film on upper tiles. It would be helpful to state the depth of pool for future visitors. Shower room lovely and modern. Annex was fine, but needed to keep windows open otherwise the room smelt damp after having showers. There is to be a new kitchen installed later this year which hopefully will improve the facility as there was no where to store food. It would be helpful to have a larger freezer. There are several dogs in the area which are noisy and bark throughout the night so windows cannot be left open. The area is stunningly beautiful and the villages of Cannillas and Competa are a delight. The beaches at Caletta de Velez are lovely as is the promenade. We enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your review. I will admit that the house is up a hill but that is the rural location! We regularly carry out maintenance on the track to the house with our neighbours so you were unlucky to have rain in September and just before the maintenance. We have not had a problem with the pool before but have chased that up. There is to be a new kitchen installed which will have lots of extra storage but the freezer size and storage is usually adequate for a one or two week stay. As you stayed for nearly four weeks you may have needed more space but it is a short term holiday rental home and equipped as such. Best wishes Alison

Peace and quiet

My wife and I have just returned from an excellent holiday at Casa La Higuera On arrival we were met by a very friendly couple who showed us around the villa. The villa was well furnished inside and outside. There was good sized covered area for dining and sitting. Although we did not use the cooking facilities there appeared to be everything you would need. There was a good sized swimming pool with a cover to retain the heat. We were surprised to find that the pool was warm enough for us to swim every day. The villa is located in a wonderful position with views of the village and the mountains. A ten minute walk takes you to two of the restaurants and a supermarket in Canillas. We ate in both restaurants a number of times for lunch and dinner and had excellent food every time. We also had some excellent food in the bar at the top of the village. We were able to walk to Competa easily in 25 mins using either the foot path or the road. Archez took us 15 mins but, as it is down hill all the way, it took a bit longer getting back. We chose this villa for the peace and quiet we hoped it would offer and it's position near to a number of restaurants. The peace and quiet was wonderful and there were many restaurants to choose from in walking distance. It therefore provided us with a excellent relaxing holiday. We hope to return in the near future. .

Lovely Holiday!

We have just come back from a lovely week. The villa is situated in a beautiful location overlooking the mountains. The road surfaces are in good condition, but I wasn't prepared for how twisty turny and at times, steep, the roads were. The villa had everything. Lots of outside seating and the kitchen was well stocked. The pool was a lovely way to cool down in the very hot sun we expereienced. We managed to keep the house cool but without Aircon, it was extreamly hot at night even with the celing fans, but we did go in mid August!!!! The local town of Canillas de Albaida was lovely. It was a 5min stroll (up the hill) where we had two fantastic meals. One in the restaurant at the top of hill (the first on you get to walking from the villa) and the second one was further down the hill. All the staff were so lovely and the food was amazing and great value. We vistied Competa a few times. This is around a 6min drive down the mountain. Easy to find parking. We had lunch in the main square and a couple of times for dinner, which again were amazing. El Pilon (which was my fav) and restaurante El pampano. Both with more stunning views. Vikki was really helpful and gave us great directions to the house. She was on hand if as and when we needed her. I had mentioned that the TV wasn't working, which on holiday isn't normally an issue, but my kids were keen to watch the olympics... other than that, it was a perfect place to relax.

Six stars next year??

From first to last our stay at La Higuera really was 5 star. The lucky owner, Alison, was very helpful and made the whole booking process pain free. The property managers in Spain met us at a charming local restaurant/bar, of which more later, and left us at the villa confident that they would respond quickly if we needed them (we didn't!). You will find the layout of the house and grounds flows nicely and because the garden does not need to be fenced for security the whole valley seems to be yours. We dare you to sit and with a glass of something facing the setting sun and not sigh one of those huge weight off your shoulders sighs. It really is possible to stroll to the two very adequate minimarkets in Canillas in less than 10 minutes. Perfect for fresh breakfast bread and cakes. Close by is a lovely bar/restaurant called Cerezo. A different walking route takes you to the original meeting place Las Esprillas. A good 3 course menu del dia including a bottle of wine and beer was outstanding value at 30 euros for two inclusive of tip. La Higuera is paradise if you need somewhere to chill and recharge and we left cursing ourselves for not booking a longer stay. The great service continued on landing back in the UK as our breakages deposit was refunded within days. Alison tells us that there are plans to improve the villa even more this winter so be prepared for the first 6 star review in 2017.

Lugar de no fácil acceso desde la A7, 30 min de muchas curvas..., emplazamiento y vistas maravillosas, pueblos encantadores al igual que sus gentes, la casa impecable, la piscina muy honda 1,60 cm en toda la piscina..., buena limpieza con todo lo necesario para pasar unas fantásticas vacaciones, un pero y no es culpa de la propiedad...una noche intentarón entrar en la casa pero al tener rejas no pudieron y le auyentamos pero nos quedamos con un poco de miedo durante los dias que quedaban sobre todo nuestra hija, pero no hubo que lamentar nada más, la casa deberia estar bien vayada en su perímetro pero bueno, llamamos a la Guardia civil y no vibo nadie, se trata de un cocnocido del pueblo de Canillas que debe estar TRASTORNADO..., hablamos con Alison y nos calmo al igual que Vicky la persona encargada de las llaves que se preocupo mucho incluso nos ofreció otra casa..un 10 Viky y Ali una vecina que también se preocupó, han sido unas buenas vacaciones pero con un susto que no fue más allá.

Une superbe villa, des vues magnifiques, très bien équipée et à quelques minutes des commodités et restaurants. Un inoubliable séjour au coeur des villages blancs d Andalousie. Le seul point négatif à noter est que, tout en connaissant la Tradition des fiestas en Espagne, la féria du village de Canillas a apporté énormément de bruit durant 3 nuits entières. La musique de manège faisant résonance dans la vallée. A part cela, tout est magique ! Merci 🤩

Relaxing vacation

Charming, cozy and comfortable property - great for R&R! My husband and I were in dire need of a vacation and did not feel the need to leave the property all that much as we had everything that we needed and more. Recently renovated, super clean and well equipped. Even included kitchen essentials - coffee, oil, salt etc. which is not the case when renting in other European countries such as France and Italy. Casa le Higuera is a lovely villa; clean and tastefully decorated. The location is a short walk away from the village yet felt quite remote, and very private. Stunning views of the mountains. Would recommend car hire to explore the picturesque villages.

A lovely villa, we have stayed in 4 properties in this area (near Competa). All have been pretty and this is no exception. We had a beautiful, quite time. The village is only 5 mins walk by the path amongst the Avacados. The bars and locals are very friendly. The villa has everything you need, including many places to sit outside. Pool was lovely. Alison’s communications always very polite, helpful and swift. Highly recommended

Beautiful views

we stayed at this villa with our 4 children aged between 2 and 15 years of age. The villa is beautiful and has stunning views across the mountains and to the surrounding villages. The nearby villages of Canillas and Competa are beautiful with loads of winding streets to explore. Canillas is a short walk away although routes would be a challenge for very young children or those with mobility issues. Canillas has 2 lovely restaurants and a good stocked small shop. The villa was comfortable and had everything we needed with a lovely shaded terrace for those who don’t want to be in the sun all day. When we arrived there was a problem with the shower in the casita which Christine and Malcolm quickly resolved. Towards the end of our 2 week stay we did experience an issue with security in the grounds and one night had our swimwear from the sunloungers that we had left out overnight to dry and a subsequent night we woke to find someone in the grounds of the villa leaving our children very upset by the incident. I did let the villa owner Alison aware of the issues twice but she failed to respond leaving us very disappointed.

Thank you for your review. I do apologise for not getting back to you directly. I did immediately contact the couple who look after the house and a lock was bought for the main gate and the sliding gate at the top of the steps is lockable too. This will hopefully stop this happening again. One of the assets of the house is its open views and the feel of space so am reluctant to put more of a fence around. This is a rare occurrence and it is a very safe area. My apologies again as I am usually very diligent in my communication with guests. Alison

My family and I have been coming to this villa for the last 12 years and it really is our happy place. The magic of the mountains gives you the ability to switch off, relax and feel restored by the time you leave. We love spending time here and exploring the local area and wish we could spend more time in Spain, but for now, we want to be able to share it with more people through renting the property out.

After renting many villa's throughout Europe on our family holidays, we finally found a place where we wanted to return again and again. We fell in love with the scenery, climate and laid back way of life. As soon as you arrive you feel relaxed and will certainly never tire of the amazing views from our terrace. I love the area so much I actually got married at the bottom of the mountain!

There's no shortness of activities nearby too. There are padel courts in the local village, tennis courts in Competa, countless cycle routes if you're bringing your own bike, and companies to hire them from too. We'd be happy to give you the details of our favourite routes! If you'd like to go down to the beach, the bustling town of Nerja is 30 minute drive away where you can spend the day kayaking around the coves, exploring the old town and have some amazing food - and of course relax on the beach.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

Casa La Higuera has a rural feeling, but nestled on the edge of Canillas de Albaida. The villa is not overlooked and has panoramic views from the terrace, yet it's just a 5 minute walk to the centre of the village for the local shop which does fantastic bread along with all the other amenities. There's also lots of good restaurants that we'd be happy to recommend to you when you visit us. Competa is a 20 minute walk away with plenty more restaurants and a few shops.

The garden and terraces face south west so sunshine all day, ending with the perfect Gin and Tonic spot watching the sun set over the mountains, complete with a lemon from our own lemon tree.
