Peace and quiet

We stayed at Finca Arboleda for the May half term week. We had been looking for a last minute deal, but were unable to find anything to suit our needs and budget. We contacted Michael and Pirkko to see if they would accommodate myself, my husband and our 18 month old. They were happy on this occasion to have a child stay, which was excellent for us. We loved the stables, the villa was spotless, well equipped and perfect for our needs. We were even provided with a cot bed and high chair adapter which meant we could travel with less luggage. It was also a perfect distance from the pool without us having to worry about our little boy. It would be an excellent place to holiday with a young family with grandparents in tow, staying in the apartment just a stones throw away. The surroundings are tranquil and picturesque. We loved visiting the chickens to feed them our scraps. Stig the dog was very tolerant of an over friendly toddler and Michael and Pirkko were generous with both their time and advice. Their local knowledge was invaluable, particularly in regard the beach recommendations. We would recommend Agua Amarga, Villaricos and San Juan de los Terreros. It was a really easy drive from Almeria airport and to the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. Sitting by the beautiful pool in the sunshine was real bliss and left us very relaxed and ready to return to the real world ! We hope to return.........................

Thank you Ruth for a lovely review. Although we don't market ourselves as child friendly we are flexible and will treat each enquiry individually. As a new Grandfather I'm sure that young children will play a greater part in our lives! To clarify the situation if we take a booking from people expecting a child free zone we would not accept a booking from a family with children at the same time. But of course enquiries from families are always welcome. Michael

Nature & Tranquility at The Stables

Wake up to birds singing and breakfast on comfortable chairs on the covered veranda amongst the many olive and orange trees. There's a secluded garden area with plenty of cushioned sunbeds and the whole, large garden is fenced in which meant our dogs could have a wander. It was lovely to watch the horses being exercised at the riding school just across the adjoining field and the garden area is bigger than it appears in photos so a pleasant surprise. Inside there's everything we needed from a well-furnished kitchen to 2 large wardrobes with cupboards. Stuff we normally bring for self catering wasn't needed as this house had everything - from a magnify bathroom mirror, to extension leads to shoe horn! The kitchen utensil drawer was full and even included a potato masher!..plus the house is cosy with heating if you need it. We'd just missed watching their harvest but benefitted from a supply of freshly produced olive oil and you can pick oranges and pomegranates directly from the trees. Freshly laid eggs are available from Michael & Pirrko's (friendly) chickens. We stayed in November so didn't swim but the pool is very pretty with a shallow walk-in end ideal for families and there were plenty of cushioned sunbeds. You need a car but once in it, local shops & Vera town are 5 mins, beach 12mins, nearest golf course 10 mins. Overall this accomodation was perfect for our 3&half week stay with hosts Michael and Pirrko being good fun but also very respectful of our privacy.

Lovely and peaceful

Whilst writing in the guest reviews book is good, most people nowadays prefer to read (and share) about other guests experiences on line. We we are just coming to the end of our two weeks here -our first experience - and will sadly be flying home tomorrow. When we first arrived we didn’t immediately know what to make of living in a rural house away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas of Spain. We quickly settled into a relaxed way of holiday life. You have everything you could wish for here, without venturing too far. Vera town is but 5 minutes drive away where there are some nice restaurants and many supermarkets. Iceland Overseas supplies just about any British food you could want, from Waitrose products and other brands. They even have their own meat counter with quality meat cut to order. Bistro gravy? Yes, that’s there too. If your coming from the UK, you don’t need to bring your own bacon or mustard, it’s all here. Lidl and Supermercado complete the selection of products available. There are also some scenic drives along the coast road up to Aquilas and in the other direction too taking you to some tiny, quiet coves all to yourself. The nearest beach is Puerto Rey which even at weekends is fairly empty and quiet. Being a truly rural Spanish farming area, many locals eat late, so as we tend to eat early, we tended to have the local menu del dia at lunchtimes, with a snack in the evenings. I have to say that the owners, Michael and Pirrko, are always there if needed, and their fresh eggs from their ‘girls’ have orange yolks and are lovely. The pool area is quiet and the only sounds to be heard are the breezes rustling the olive, limes, lemons and fig trees as you kick back and enjoy the sunshine. Enjoy, Meg & Derek (Cambridgeshire)

A wonderful stay. We would highly recommend.

We had a fabulous stay. The accommodation was great. Very well equipped, very clean and lots of attention to detail. We would highly recommend if you want peace, quiet and comfort. The area is also lovely with lots of places and beaches to explore. Eating fresh figs every morning and picking lemons for a gin and tonic in the evening... What more could you ask for. The owners were also great and very helpful.

A lovely place to stay!

We really enjoyed staying at the old stable in finca Arboleda, it was very relaxing. It is so quiet and peaceful, we enjoyed sitting outside having our happy hour looking at the sea view and a beautiful olive orchard in front of us, it is really authentic Spanish country holiday. It is nicely private but the owners Mick and Pirkko are there if you need any help or advice and they are very welcoming and accommodating. The stable is very clean and well equipped with everything you need, and the bathroom has just been renovated and it is super! If you are looking for a holiday from the hustle and bustle of the cities, this is the place to be.

A totally relaxing and comfortable stay in a very well equipped property amongst olive groves but within 5 minutes of local amenities. Michael and Pirkky were perfect hosts and we will not hesitate to return.

A holiday to remember

Having been advised by our 17 year old daughter that this would most likely be her last holiday with us,we wanted a holiday to remember. After reading the reviews for Finca Arboleda it didn't take long for us to make a decision to book. Our only concern was that flying from the MIdlands appeared to limit us to the furthest airport (Alicante). However we hired a car at the airport with Drivalia (who were excellent) and had a very easy 2 hour drive on a motorway (quite unlike the M1 and M6!) which runs direct from the airport to Vera. The previous reviews say it all and the only thing we can add is the obvious desire of Mick and Pirkko to ensure you have the best time and we certainly did. Regards Pete,Debbie and Megan.

Peaceful & beautiful

We have just spent two glorious weeks staying in The Old Stable at Finca Arbeola. It was fabulous to meet Mick & Pirkko, & of course Stig! The accommodation was spotless with everything you needed including a very large fridge for much needed cold drinks!! The pool area was fantastic & the style of pool was just beautiful, again always clean, plenty of beds so if anyone is staying ( as there was for our first week) in the apartment you all have a sunbed & umbrella if required. The eggs from the chickens & olive oil was absolutely fabulous & it was lovely to be able to pick your own oranges to juice & lemons for a G & T! Ideally located a short drive from Vera & two great golf courses. Also if you want somewhere busier Mojacar is only 25 minutes away. Thanks both for a fabulous holiday & sharing your beautiful home with us, we will be back! Jeff & Ellie

Our 1st trip to Finca Arboleda

A warm welcome awaited us from Michael & Pirkko, the Old Stables was clean & comfortable. It had everything you needed, including excellent wifi & central heating for those chilly nights early on in the year. You do need a car as it is a 5 to 10 minute drive into Vera with its supermarkets, shops & bars. The Finca is an ideal base for touring & walking in the area, we went to Bedar & San Jose in the National Park then to Aguilas further up the coast. Vera beach is only 15 mins away and is ideal in the summer time, The pool looked inviting but the weather turned cooler whilst we were there so we declined the offer of a dip. We shall be returning some time in the future as we find this a nice area to have our holidays.

Winter Bliss

It's easy to see that The Old Stables is ideal in summer, but we tour Spain each year in the winter when priorities are different. Overall, this is the best accommodation that we have found on our travels - very clean - very comfortable and very warm, with discreet but very helpful hosts. We will return (if available!) whenever we are in the south-east of Spain.

Perfect villa

Fantastic find. Lovely, spotlessly clean villa set in an olive grove. Everything needed was provided. The owners were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. A great base for exploring the local area. We will definitely be returning. Picked oranges every morning form the owners trees, freshly squeezed orange juice, heavenly.

Tranquility

Just returned from two weeks at the Stables, Finca Arboleda. What more can be said that hasn't been said before ! Everything lived up to expectation and Mick and Pirkko were always on hand to deal with any problems. They were happy to socialise but respected our privacy. The pool was beautiful with a temperature of 30+ it was so relaxing. With the weather hot and dry and the beach close at hand it made for an excellent holiday. Certainly a place we would wish to return to.

This accommodation exceeded expectations

Having spent our last few holidays in the Vera area we wanted to return this year but found ourself unable to access our usual accommodation. Thankfully through Owners Direct and internet searches we found Finca Arboleda. With greater thanks, The Old Stables was fortunately available for our holiday dates so we were able to spend a week of our holiday in the most wonderful of settings and accommodation! The property description and portrayal is the most accurate we have known and therefore it more than met with our approval and expectations. Our hosts, Michael and Pirkko were non intrusive but there if we needed them. The accommodation is wonderfully peaceful and private, and is spotlessly clean plus very well furnished and equipped. The swimming pool and property grounds are idyllic and once again maintained to an excellent standard. We highly recommend this property if you crave a peaceful and relaxing holiday in an authentic typically Spanish rural getaway with good proximity to shops, restaurants and beaches. We certainly plan to return!

Hidden gem!

This villa is the best we have stayed in, by far. It had everything you could possibly want, and all of a good quality. It was clean and wonderfully quiet. Michael and Pirkko (and Stig!) are wonderful hosts, helpful and friendly but only there when you need them. The villa is slightly remote so a car is needed but this adds to the tranquil feel. However, Vera is only a five minute drive and Garruchu only 15 minutes, so restaurants and bars easily accessible. The pool is kept very clean and the gardens are beautiful and it was lovey being able to pick fresh fruit! We loved this holiday and are already booking to go back - can't rate it highly enough! Top marks

Finca Arboleda

We have stayed at Finca Arboleda on several occasions. The apartment is spacious and spotlessly clean along ith the grounds and pool. Mick and Pirkko are perfect hosts nothing is to much trouble. It's he sort of place my wife and I would prefer to keep our little secret, but a good review is the least we can do for Mick and Pirkko.

Holiday in Vera

Really enjoyed our time at Finca Arboleda, very peaceful and relaxing. Michael and Pirkko were perfect hosts and were very helpful with information about the local area. Couldn't fault the villa at all and it contained everything you needed for a perfect holiday. We used the BBQ most evenings. The pool was so nice, could have stayed in there all day. The place is a little out of the way so you definately need a car but there is a choice of shops and restaurants close by. There are also some lovely quiet beaches within a short drive.

Finca Arboleda

We rent properties abroad and in the uk for periods from one week to six weeks and normally we are holidaying in such properties for between 6 and 10 weeks of the year. We look for clean, quiet well appointed properties that are also good value. We thus feel qualified to express opinions on holiday rental properties.This property is by far the cleanest most well appointed property we have ever rented, efficient central heating, good quality of furnishings, excellent layout and kitchen, comfortable withSatellite TV, WiFi everything we wanted in a holiday rental. Mike and Prikko are excellent knowledgable and unobtrusive hosts. A great holiday rental for us, we still talk of picking fresh oranges from their trees for breakfast!

Lovely, peaceful place

We stayed 2 weeks at The Old Stables in April and were delighted with the accommodation. The villa was excellent, with all one's needs catered for. We appreciated the ample space, the comfort, the large kitchen with plenty of work surfaces and the fact that everything was very clean and tidy. It was also great to have British TV stations and reliable WiFi. A real bonus was the provision of a decent mountain bike with which I was able to get my exercise and explore the area. It's an easy ride over to Moj?car, a pleasant but huge resort. We enjoyed the peacefulness of the location and the variety of the visiting birds, including some species which for us are rare: bee-eater, little owl, great spotted cuckoo, hoopoe and great grey shrike. It was particularly nice to watch the bee-eaters (up to 20) noisily gathering on the telegraph wires over the garden and to see and hear stone curlews flying nearby. Michael and Pirkko are very pleasant, amusing, thoughtful and helpful hosts and were there if needed but otherwise unobtrusive. They have put a lot of thought and effort into what visitors expect from self-catering accommodation and, as such, the villa was considerably better than those we have rented in France and Spain. We were surprised how warm it was (often 25/28C) for the time of year and also how windy it tended to be, especially from late morning onwards. The wind dropped most evenings but it was usually just a little too cool for eating outside. It was an easy half hour walk into the town centre where we had lunch 4 times. The Van Gogh restaurant was particularly good and their Menu del D?a excellent value on both occasions. Overall a very pleasant and relaxing stay; highly recommended!

Thank you "Birdman" for your excellent review and the morning "banter" over the Mountain bike which I know you considered a heavyweight after what you were used to but grew to "love" As you point out it was unusually windy in the afternoons but I think this was probably due to the warm temperatures combined with the sea still being a bit chilly in March. This is the same wind that is a real bonus in the height of summer. It is very rewarding to have such a positive review from someone as well traveled as yourself. Happy Holiday

We stayed in the Orange Grove Apartment and found the location and layout as described,the shower in the bathroom was great,as was the pool we spent a lot of time just doing nothing around it. Michaei and Pirko are very good hosts on hand if needed but not obstrusive, the holiday was a great successs and would recommend to anyone looking for peace and quiet in an ideal setting.

We, Mick and Pirkko have lived here since January 2004. Pirkko is Swedish and Mick English, we met in Stockholm in 1996. We moved to the UK in 2002 and after a few months decided we wanted to make a complete lifestyle change with a bit of sunshine as an added bonus. Spain was the choice, we looked at areas from the Costa Blanca all the way to the Portuguese border but kept coming back to the Costa Almeria area and Vera in particular which was more rustic and less developed than the other Costas.

We had spent 18 months looking for a home that we could use as a holiday let and just when we started to think it wasn't going to happen we found Finca Arboleda. It was a beautiful sunny November day, a cloudless sky, the Mediterranean deep blue in the distance and trees loaded with Oranges, Pomegranates and Olives, after 9 months of hard work we were ready to go but have been making improvements ever since. We are sure you will enjoy staying here as much as we love to live here.

Finca Arboleda is an Oasis in this the sunniest part of Spain it is big enough to find a quiet corner or you may prefer having a chat with us or the people who may be staying in the one bedroom Garden Suite that is also available for holiday lets. The fantastic pool is very popular with all guests.
