It was great to have Rachel back for a repeat visit and to know she and her group enjoyed their stay at Kiewa View again. It is pleasing to see that she has already booked direct to return next year. She got in early and avoided the 8% Victorian Short Stay Levy as well as saving on booking commission.

Great you found your needs met Rachel. We do not attempt to be flashy just practical meeting guests every need in comfort and convenience. Since your stay we have already installed a luggage self-storage facility. Not so important in summer but helpful during the snow season for some guests who would like to leave some of their luggage behind when they check out to go to Falls Creek and pick up on their way home from the mountain.

POSITIVES:Well-maintained house.Plenty of supplies.Ample room for 5 adults.R-C Air conditioners in lounge & bedrooms.2 showers (with hip baths) and 2 toilets.Excellent water pressure in showers.Extensive functional/instructional labelling around the house.Full-size washing machine.Carport outside front door helped packing & unpacking.Garage kept car cool & bikes safe.Caretaker was easily contactable & available when needed.NEGATIVES:Bikes had to be unloaded & loaded on the street, as the road-driveway entrance would have scraped on our bike carrier. Gouge marks on the road showed where others have had the same problem. Suggest modifications to flatten this out.Front door keypad was fiddly and unreliable. The caretaker gave us a set of keys, which we used for the remainder of our stay.Mustard-coloured walls were dark and underwhelming. Suggest painting them with a light colour to brighten up the house.Replace corroding soap holder in shower.Bedroom TVs only showed 1 or 2 channels. No Network 10 channels on any TVs. Suggest retuning them all & creating a Favourites selection on each so the main channels can be accessed more easily.Electric BBQ didn’t seem to be sturdy or clean.Thorough cleaning and/or replacement of the pillows and mattress covers would make a better first impression when making the beds & would be greatly appreciated.OVERALL, I would certainly consider staying there again, especially if the suggested improvements were implemented.

Donald thankyou for the detailed review and suggestions. The road in Lakeside outside Kiewa View has been built with a very high camber. We have had manufactured a big steel bridge to reduce the driveway angle. Repeated requests to the council to let us improve further with a concrete ramp and channel have been refused. We would love to replace soap holders that have been pitted by the chemicals in the soap. These are the original holders and we have tried a number of times to find replacements that fit the same holes in the fibreglass wall. Your suggestion has motivated us to have a search on the internet for an overseas supplier that might fit. We will check the bedroom TV's.. If you had mentioned the issue during your stay I would have sent someone around to fix the problem. The broadcasters in regional Victoria are not the same as Melbourne. Perhaps that was the problem. There is no channel 10 in Mount Beauty. Southern Cross TV broadcasts Ten Network content on channel 5. I am surprised about the pillow protectors and mattress protectors. Aside from the contract cleaners between guests I personally check, clean and replace four times a year. Twice a year we launder irrespective of how clean they look. and once a year we shampoo the carpet and lounge, launder and air the blankets and bedcovers and steam clean and UV treat the mattresses. Normally we do that in Spring but last spring it rained so much and often we could not schedule. Now planned for next week.

We are not trying to imitate a luxury resort or serviced apartment complex. We prefer to invest more in really high quality bedding, fantastic heating and cooling. and special facilities for cyclists, mountain bikers, skiers and fishermen.

Thanks Trevor for being a party of two couples of good and understanding guests. Glad you liked the beds. We think a couple of German pocket spring beds are a good investment. Worth it for the comfort and because they last longer and not more expensive in the long run. I hope you or some friend can take up our direct booking deal for a return visit. Personally my spirits lift every time I come over the mountains with a view into the Kiewa valley.

Yes, we have upgraded the important things for comfort and convenience, like practical kitchen , two toilets and two showers, TV and separate split systems in every room, lots of hot water and drying facilities, double glazing and sun deck but kept the pre-war style with large bedrooms and lounge and old fashioned solid panel doors. So do not expect the latest designer look with lots of scatter cushions, just a stay with lots of comfort and convenience especially if you are cycling, skiing, mountain biking or fishing.

Warm comfortable beds for everyone. Excellent base for outdoor sports in and around mt beauty. Heaters tellies and even hair dryers in every bedroom. Rear garden surprisingly pretty . Kitchen and bathroom small and basic but perfectly functional

Thanks Julie, we are really happy you enjoyed your stay. You hit the nail on the head in that we especially focus on active families. We aim to be a top three and a half star holiday house with practical comfort, convenience and facilities for guests particularly doing, cycling, skiing, mountain biking, wineries and fishing. We do not offer luxury ambience with lots of scatter cushions, but we do provide A/C in every room and two toilets and two showers for guests in a hurry to get out there and do it, and then come back to the house and enjoy the front sun deck or the rear garden pergola.

Simply not a true comment, more than simply an exaggeration. We run a traditional holiday house format where guests bring their own linen and make their own beds. We pay a lot of attention to bedding cleanness as there is no chance to hide under clean linen like a hotel or property which provides made beds might. As I had personally checked, cleaned or replaced all pillows, pillow protectors, mattress protectors, bed covers and blankets three weeks before Adrian’s group arrival I was surprised that multiple items could be soiled in such a short time. We provide 18 pillows for 8 to 10 guests with a mix of thin, fat, soft and firm to guest preference. We replenish regularly and none are old. After inspection and speaking to Adrian I ascertained that the old and dirty blankets consisted of one 5 year old queen size blanket provided for a double bed had part of the satin trim separated due to being caught under the bed wheel. The blanket was perfectly clean neither old nor dirty. The old and dirty pillows were relatively new pillows where the synthetic protectors had lint from the valour bed covers and a few stray hairs that cling in the surface of the material that do not come out in the wash.
When people nit-pick and exaggerate in reviews there is usually some underlying reason. My phone conversation with Adrian left me with the impression that style of the accommodation disappointed them. Our listing description clearly states our 3½ start rating and our photographs and description are accurate. Kiewa View has many 4 star features, like 4 split systems, 4 TV’s, 2 bathrooms, Internet streaming & DVR, German pocket spring mattresses, sun deck and double glazed picture windows. But we are not 4 star because the architectural style is definitely pre-war workman’s, we do not provide linen and we have practical furnishings and fittings and no scatter cushions. With guests providing their own linen we can offer prices around half the price of 4 start with linen. It is true that we are well set-up for a young adventurous person’s weekend. As our HomeAway description says “We have particular focus on active guests with facilities for snow sports, road cyclists, mountain bikers, walkers”
It is possible that Adrian chose to pay 3 star prices and was disappointed when he and his friends did not get the little 4 star style trappings they craved

Great for a group of friends :)
Great place to stay for a group of friends or big family - clean comfy and two bathrooms was so convenient. Nice and warm during cold winter days and nights. Beds were comfy, and the owner was really helpful with suggestions of what to pack, how to get there, what household items would be provided etc. and even called the first night to check everything was ok :)
The drying cupboards were great to dry out our clothes and boots from the snow each day. The 2 fridges were great too - one for food one for drinks :)

Over 40 years ago our family looked for our ideal location for a holiday house and settled on the Kiewa Valley as the perfect choice. Every time I drive down over the mountains for the glimpse into the Kiewa Valley be it snowing or sunshine the view of the mountains brightens my day. Over the years we have done many renovation and upgrade projects to make Kiewa View more comfortable and convenient for us and our guests. However we have kept some of the unique nostalgistic pre war style like the panelled internal doors. While many other holiday houses have changed to serviced apartment style holiday letting we have decided to stay with the traditional holiday house format where guests bring their own linen. Thus giving a choice to those guests who want to continue to avail themselves of the cost saving advantage of avoiding the expensive linen hire for eight beds, three bedrooms, kitchen and two bathrooms. We always believed that for a snow sports weekend break staying in Mount Beauty was more convenient and practical than staying on the mountain. The fact that it cost so much less was an added bonus. The fact that there are now mountain bike trail heads at both Falls Creek and Mount Beauty is just perfect.

At Kiewa View we have split systems in every room for year round comfort, excellent drying facilities with two upright drying units, under cover parking for up to three cars and unloading out of the weather. There is a garage for under cover maintenance and storage of bicycles, a track pump and bike cleaning facility. Fish cleaning facilities so you can enjoy your catch cooked fresh. There are two showers and two toilets for quick transition from the end of activity to the start of relaxation at the end of the day. For that end of activity relaxation Kiewa View has a sun deck and pergola area as the golf course 19th hole only a short walk from the course. And when the post activity celebration is all done there is top quality bedding for a restful nights sleep recharged for the next days activities.
