Paddymelon Cottage Clunes

Paso atrás en el tiempo en Paddymelon Cottage, construido originalmente en 1858 y reformado por los actuales propietarios en 1996. 97. La casa de campo tiene dos dormitorios, un baño, una cocina comedor, una acogedora sala de estar con chimenea y aire acondicionado de sistema dividido. Cosy cottage with many original features such as lead glass, fireplaces (but with modern heating and cooling), beautiful wooden floors and delightful bullnosed verandah. Convenient location, 5 minute walk into town and a stone throw from the Topshop for takeaway.

Lovely heritage cottage and equally lovely host. Quiet and relaxing place to stay for our long weekend away. The town is long past its boom days but retains a lot of its charm regardless as well as its recognition of its gold mining history and its focus on being a "Book Town", including a Booktown festival in March. The pub does a very enjoyable meal and a good coffee at one of the cafes and quality pie at the bakery is readily available. Easy drive to bigger centres and other small towns.

clean rooms, cottage garden overgrown, paling front fence falling down,verandah lounges dirty and plenty of cobwebs and spiders. deadlock front door broken not fixed despite informing marlene. no laundry or washing machine we stayed for 9 days and had to travel out of clunes to do our washing. over all we were disappointed as the cottage was not as shown in photos.

I believe the rating and comments are is not justified. All comments are outside of the cottage. A washing machine is not listed on my accessories. The guest needed to communicate her requirement I could have made other arrangements. I had left a set of clean sheet and towels as they were a long stay. The palings of the fence is exagerated. I was not aware of the slight problem on the lock until after they arrived. I ensured the lock was still useable for them at the time. It needed tradesman attention. Our gardener was sick that week and the grass growns fast at that time of year. The couch on the front verandah is an outdoor one and was cleaned before they arrived. Overall I do not believe the rating is fair!!

Cosy and delightful cottage

The cottage is very homely, good heating and electric blankets. Very comfortable beds and a great. location. A short walk to the town. Quiet and relaxing. No stove but microwave and electric frypan was fine. Loved our stay

We stayed at Paddymelon Cottage in Clunes for 3 nights in March 2026, a period miner’s cottage. While it was generally comfortable, we found the interior was in need of some work. At least one wall had some very obvious cracks and in places the paintwork was deteriorating, peeling and/or marked. It was listed as renovated but this must have been several decades ago. There were some cobwebs, as well as a used towel in the bathroom linen basket. It was pleasant and peaceful sitting on the veranda at the side of the cottage in the warm early autumn sunshine looking out at the side garden. However, it was necessary to brush cobwebs, dust and leaf litter off the chair cushions before sitting at the outside table. This part of the garden was generally untidy with weeds, random pieces of timber, empty garden pots and a discarded plastic chair. However, that said, the cottage is very conveniently located, just a short walk to the main street. For this type of accommodation, the cost was reasonable. Overall, this cottage would suit those looking for convenience of location and some period charm rather than 5-star luxury.

Paddymelon Cottage

Quiet and restful few days in beautiful up town Clunes. Cottage was very well presented and reminded us very much of our Grandma's house. Good place as a base to tour local area and small towns plus Lambley Nursery which was main purpose of visit. Marlene a gracious and informative host.

Cosy Cottage

This was a lovely cottage with all conveniences. The fire was lovely and fresh linen and towels welcome. Very convenient to Ballarat with an easy drive to all attractions nearby. Beds were comfy and it was nice and clean.

We are a retired couple with nine grandchildren. We moved to Clunes in 1996 and have enjoyed our involvement with the local community.
We are both artists, John is a musician and I am a painter-printmaker.
There are examples of my work hanging in the cottage.
When there is a vacancy in the cottage we enjoy evenings on the verandah..

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

This is a historical cottage, built in 1858 in a heritage street. Its proximity to the town centre allows guests a stay without driving. We have a unique view of the Port Philip mine which is one of the earliest digging sights during the gold rush.
While the cottage is totally self sufficient, we live in a building at the back and are available 24/7
