Family and Friends 4 Bedroom Newer Vacation Home

Recently built vacation accomodation,9 rooms, 2 deck addition, on a quiet, wide double lot, in Petoskey. This totally private vacation retreat was recently built on the wooded property near the original owner's residence. Lots of private open space around the home. Plenty of parking. Beautiful 6 panel- pine doors, white maple, hardwood floors throughout (no musty, germy carpets). Nicely decorated with various interesting exhibits. High ceilings in all rooms. Located on a large, level deep grassy double lot, perfect for all game playing. Easy walk to downtown area. Large deck with campfire area, smaller rear outpost deck. Wi fi Internet. Full size washer and dryer. Fully equipped kitchen. Large refrigerator, new Dishwasher, Microwave, Stove and Oven. Air conditioning, Gas log interior fireplace.
Lots of free polished and natural Petoskey stones for all guests. Owner will play guitar for group, at the campfire if asked. The home has a unique, artistic feel to it, relative to the beautiful northern Michigan area. Guests often comment on the excellent, convenient, quiet location, the unique interesting interior layout and the comforting coziness of the home. The backyard is wooded and rustic with a perfect walking area for pets. The Owner is a well-known Petoskey Stone artist, acoustic guitar player, builder and mechanic. Petoskey stones, which the guests find, will be polished by owner. A special Petoskey stone finding map, can be provided. A wonderful, wide hiking trail, along the beautiful Bear River, which leads to Lake Michigan waterfront and the downtown area, is just 2 blocks away. Mackinac Island ferry boats are just 1/2 hour drive away.

The layout was a bit quirky, but the house was comfortable and warm. Kitchen counter space was small, but there were two tables to help with prep and all the appliances worked great. Two of the four bedrooms had no closet or dresser space, but the beds were comfortable and there were plenty of blankets and quilts. The main bath is off one of the bedrooms, but the tub and shower worked and there were plenty of towels. The half bath is behind the kitchen and all the plumbing worked well. The house is nicely decorated and the host provided polished Petoskey stones to take home. Al was very welcoming (although we only saw him once when he came by outside to pick up the mail). I accidentally left a cookie tin behind and he kindly agreed to hold it for me until I can return and retrieve it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in his home.

The place was clean and very comfortable for our stay. A little different walking in and out through the bedroom.Al was very nice, quick to respond to all my emails and text! Super host!

Al, the host, is definitely what makes the stay memorable. He is a very sweet, talented, and generous man. The home itself was very comfortable for my husband and me, and our two dogs. The kitchen and living area were a good size, and there are four bedrooms! The home is close enough to the downtown area to walk to the shops and restaurants, and the waterfront is just beyond that. Great place for a small group like ours or a whole family!

We did not stay there, we got there, saw the houses around this house and felt unsafe. The aesthetic of the house was not acceptable to us. The house was clean on the inside but dark. We walked through the house and left, knowing we were forgoing our money. We ended up staying in a pet friendly motel.

Great location, price, pet friendly and response of host. Had a lot of room to move around. Our only downside was the shower pressure. It seems to still be a work in progress but overall they rocked it out for us. We are low key kinda people so overall give it a 4 out of 5 stars.
Ability to add our grand dog to our family time was an added bonus.

The listing did not make it clear that part of the house was partitioned off and the owner was just beyond a locked door. And the interior construction is not near code. 2 of the bedrooms are not actually bedrooms, but framed out large closets. The main bath was built into a back porch only accessible via one of the bedrooms, and had a sliding glass door with curtains for privacy. Exposed wiring covered with tape. Portable air conditioners. The dishwasher was installed into a closet. Panneling on the ceiling. Just incorrect everything on what seems to be a deliberate basis. The half bath doesn't lock. Only one railing on the deck. And on and on.

The house was spacious and clean. The host was incredibly kind and helpful; he even gave us polished Petoskey stones and custom made a necklace for my mother. We had an excellent vacation!

The owner was very good to work with and responsive. When we let him know that the coffee maker wasnt working, he replaced it immediately. It was great that the 4 adults were all able to have their own bedroom. It was a bit of a walk to downtown, but totally doable.The main reason for the mark down is that we feel like the description was not accurate. It is listed as a newer, whole house rental. This is an older house and the rental is the back half of the house only. The rental area is a cobbled together space and felt very unfinished. To enter the property, you walk through one of the bedrooms. The only full bath is in a converted back porch that didnt have air and I'm not sure if it would be heated in the winter. One of the bedrooms is a closed off space with no windows or heat/cooling vents. The towels and bedding were all old and mismatched, but they were clean.Overall, the space worked for us, but didnt match with the description and we were a bit uncomfortable knowing that it was a shared property.

Owner was responsive. House was clean, had all that we needed in the kitchen, linens, etc.Went for a softball tournament, so really only needed a place to sleep. Loved being able to bring our dogs. Location was close to downtown.

Disappointing Stay – Not as AdvertisedOur stay at this property was unfortunately not what we expected. First, it’s important for future guests to know that the rental is not for the entire house—the owner lives in the front portion of the home, which was not clearly stated in the listing.The house itself lacked comfort. There were no screens on the windows, so we couldn’t open them for fresh air. Air conditioning was only available in select rooms, making the rest of the space quite uncomfortable. The shower setup was also odd—you have to go through a bedroom and use a sliding glass door to access it. Water pressure was very low.We booked this property because it was listed as pet-friendly. Thankfully, we didn’t bring our dogs. The yard was overgrown and not fenced in, despite the photos giving that impression.The kitchen was inconvenient for cooking. The oven was small and could only fit one dish at a time. The coffee pot took over an hour to brew, and there was no Keurig or option for single-cup coffee. The shower curtain was also in poor condition and in need of replacement.Overall, the property needs some serious updates to match the price being charged. I would not recommend this rental in its current state.

Comfortable Convenient Charming!! Al’s place was great for our group!! There was plenty of space for everyone and the dogs loved it too! The beautiful Petosky stones were a lovely bonus! Al is very responsive and check in and out was a breeze!!

The place was a dump. Poorly maintained and poorly constructed. Code violations appeared rampant. A decent location was the only thing going for the place. The owner appeared to live in the front part of the house, though we understood that a Vrbo rental should be for the whole house. TV reception was spotty. Would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

Loved the house

We loved the house. The location is absolutely perfect. Al is a great host and was so welcoming. Our kids loved searching for petoskey rocks, and Al was able to give them tips on where to search. He was so kind and also gave them several polished stones. We loved exploring Petoskey. Bear River Park was a really near area right in the middle of downtown. Thanks Al, and we can’t wait to come back!

Up North getaway

Dear Al, Thank You for hosting and allowing us to stay in your house. We love your place-it is quiet, spacious, comfortable and unique. It is in a good neighborhood, and walking distance to the charming downtown with shops and restaurants. It is close proximity to the lakes and Petoskey State Park. We especially love the personal touches throughout your house that you provided during our stay. The house reminded us of an addition my father in law built onto his house, but with even more artistic & character. It also reminded me of my grandfather who used his creativity to build things around the house and handmade things for family & friends. Thank You Al for your kindness and for making us feel "at home". We had a great stay & had so much fun exploring Petoskey, Mackinac Island, & Charlevoix. We will come back & stay at your place again. The home is only a few years old and the beautiful white maple hardwood floors, and high ceilings, really set it apart from the average carpeted dwelling. The high, wood covered ceilings, 6 panel pine doors and beautiful fireplace area make the home special. The area is quiet and peaceful located on a double lot on a side street. Easily sleeps 9 in beds and there are 2 large sofas. A perfect setting for a vacation and a Family reunion.
