This was exactly what we needed. The cottage is away from main Hawker Area and feels beautifully isolated, yet close. Great space and views to the mountains across mils of bushland. Spectacular clear skies and stars overnight. Cute little puppy and sheep for company. The house is old and compact, but has everything needed. The fridge and washing machine are old but reliable (unlike modern gadgets that have limited lifespans!). Plenty of coffee, lots of utensils. Beds are comfortable enough. Good hot water for showers, but average pressure. We loved the stay and the large empty spaces around which are very relaxing. Great base to explore Wilpena Pound, Jarvis Lookout, Hawker and surrounding areas. My son also had a great opportunity for some star trail photography.Mobile phone reception is spotty and there is no wifi. We noted that Telstra was a bit better than Optus and Emily had mentioned this during the booking. She also gave us some great family options for food and activities and walks. Would strongly recommend this cottage for anyone looking to explore the Wilpena Pound area and also would like some space and solitude!

Cottage had everything we needed, including cooking facilities and laundry. There are no particular activities, like walks, at the cottage (there are games and TV for indoor recreation), but it’s easy driving to access Hawker and Wilpena Pound. Easy to recommend if you don’t mind travelling to reach the district’s attractions.

The property had very comfortable beds. Main bedroom is large with King bed. Both quilts and blankets are available. The kitchen is well equipped. Heating is limited to a portable floor level bar heater. The laundry and bathroom are satisfactory. The location is superb. An easy drive from Hawker for fuel and food. It would add to the property to have a different heating option for colder weather and perhaps a new microwave given it only seemed to work on instant setting. Overall we were happy with the accommodation and the proprietors.

Our stay at Hillview

Perfect location for our stay. The house was roomy and comfortable. The owners kindly provided a fire drum so the boys could enjoy a camp fire.

The cottage is a good base to explore the Flinders Ranges. It can be reached via unsealed roads only, but for those who love peace and quiet it is a gem. We loved seeing the sun rise and set over the vast empty spaces, and visits from the owners' pets.

Appliances were old and many didn’t work properly. Carpets, nets warn and ripped. Furniture old and chairs stained, bbq seen much better days. Family pets visited often which was lovely. We left early even though had to pay to stay elsewhere also. Needs some investment as not a great experience.

Private, quiet and with laundry and outdoor clothes line in addition to a functional kitchen. Loved the welcoming committee of cat, dogs and chickens who were all friendly but did not bowl us over. The location is perfect. Not far out of Hawker and we were given easy to follow directions. From here it is an easy drive to Wilpena Pound and the southern Flinders Ranges.

Lovely Cabin

The property was very homely and cosy. My parents and I really enjoyed our time there and hope to visit again someday. It was in a wonderful peaceful location where you could see the stars. Emily was a great host, very fast to respond to any questions. Highly recommend, thanks Emily!

Secluded little spot

Great location. Way better than a caravan park/cabin as there is no one else around for miles (except the owners house nearby). Perfect for a family of 4. Would definitely return.

Easter in Hawker

The building and furniture are very dated. Not an issue in itself. But for old people the lounge chairs are too soft and low. The air conditioning in the kitchen does not enter the lounge dining space. It is an old through the wall rattler. Could do with ceiling fans, for extra ventilation. We were there for the Easter weekend, 25 metres away from the main homestead, at no stage did the owners make contact, to ascertain our wellbeing. The location is perfect for exploring the surrounding countryside, National Parks and Wilpena Pound, close enough to Quorn to enjoy a day out on the Pichi Richi Rail. The tariff is attractive compared to others in the area, especially as it is self-catering. Full size fridge, stove and washing machine are all available. The night sky is fantastic. Would I stay again? Yes!!
