Nature’s Quiet Call – A Peaceful Lakeside Retreat Near Bancroft.

Take the opportunity to disconnect from your normal routine and reconnect with yourself, each other and nature!

Located on Derry Lake, a non-motorized watercraft lake, approximately 5 minute drive from Bancroft, this all year round, self contained 600 sq. ft., no smoking, 2 bedroom 4 person unit is just 75 feet away from the quiet lakefront. Carefully renovated and furnished with an equipped eat-in kitchen, living room with wood fireplace and woodland views, this unit comfortably accommodates couples looking for a mini-get away or families seeking a quiet nature vacation. The main bedroom, features a queen size bed, the second bedroom features 2 twin beds, adjacent to a 3 piece shower room.

The unit overlooks an environmentally protected woodland area with many interesting features: wetlands, beaver lodges and dam, lots of wildlife and more. This is a space for children to run and explore or adults to just sit, chill or even hug a tree!

Bedding and towels provided. No cleaning fee!

Family vacation

Family trip to visit Bancroft and the Gemboree. Excellent location not far from town. Comfortable beds and all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Cabin as listed. Quiet beautiful lake to enjoy your morning coffee. We enjoyed our stay😊

Great location and beautiful cottage

Hosts were lovely and very family oriented. Our family enjoyed all that nature had to offer with a lake that had little traffic, beavers, turtles, beautiful trail for our dog to get excited over. This place was close to the grocery store but some good local attractions such as Eagles Nest and the heritage/ mineral museum.

Nice location

Nice location but cottage could use some improvements. Bedding was uncomfortable, dated, and missing top sheets. Kitchen would benefit from a fan/stove and a standard size sink. In addition, exterior door deadbolts would be preferred for added security. Home owners were very respectful during our stay and provided excess firewood which was greatly appreciated.

My husband, Mother In Law and myself had a wonderful time. The cottage was immaculate and so cozy. I loved that there was no WiFi and we could just spend some quality time talking and laughing. Mornings by the water watching the sun rise while observing all natures wildlife reminds us of the peace nature can bring to the soul. Louise and Brian were great hosts. Giving some history of the area and sharing their property with trails, lovely sit spots to accomodate any view. I would highly recommend this experience to all. We will be returning in just a few weeks.

The caption said it all! We were looking for a peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature. This cottage nestled amongst the forest provided short trails to enjoy. If you are looking for a tranquil place with nature to embrace, this place is for you!The cottage was quite clean and lovely!The amenities listed and shown in the photos, although small, were sufficient for preparing our meals. We used the barbecue most of the time.James was fantastic with communicating and meeting our needs. Thank you James!

Fell in Love with the silence of the woods

The property is beautiful and surrounded by nature.The cottage is well equipped, spacious and very well maintained.Host James & Louise are lovely people.We loved spending time in and around the small, quiet lake. It was perfect for paddling, swimming and exploring. I would highly recommend this place.Looking forward to booking again!

A joyful return

We were delighted to return for another stay with Louise and James. They have made several improvements to what was already a wonderful guest experience, including a new dock and expanded walking trails. They are the kindest and most accommodating hosts, and really go above and beyond to make our family feel welcome. We look forward to returning year after year!

Relaxing retreat😎

We had a relaxing getaway on a very beautiful lake! James and Louise were great hosts, they were very welcoming and accommodating. The cottage was very clean and spacious. We spent most of our time on the water using the kayaks and paddle boat. Being very close to town we ventured into Bancroft as well as the Kawartha Dairy for a baby cone. The camp fire pit was relaxing as we looked up into the beautiful night sky. We would definitely go back!

Absolutely amazing!

We absolutely loved it here. The hosts were fabulous, The property amazing- trails, ponds, rock river, forest. Perfect for exploring! The accommodations were great- clean, comfortable The use of the paddle boat, canoe and two kayaks plus life jackets were supplied too We saw a beaver dam, fish, turtles, heard the cyotes The stars at night were breathtaking. My kids saw shooting stars for the first time in their lives Peaceful, quiet, calm. Wonderful memories were made Exactly what my kids and I needed I’m already trying to pre book for next year so I’m guaranteed my typical week off!!! It’s going to be our yearly vacation spot Loved it loved it!

Peaceful Retreat with Thoughtful Hosts

We had such a wonderful and cozy weekend getaway here. The place felt calm and comforting—just what we needed. We brought our cat along, and he absolutely loved it. It was a relief knowing the home was safe and welcoming for pets.The hosts were living right next door, yet never once disturbed us. Instead, they were incredibly kind and helpful—showing us around the property, suggesting things to do nearby, and making sure we had everything we needed. If anything was missing or ran out, they generously offered it without hesitation.One of our favorite memories was spending time in the gazebo, sitting by the fire, and barbecuing under the stars. Thank you to our lovely host for helping us create a memory we’ll always hold close to our hearts. We’re already looking forward to visiting again.

Get away on the Lake

Booked the cottage for a few days away. It was wonderful in all aspects. Bancroft is a nice little town. The cottage was basically a house !!! Well equipped for the different levels of weather ( we did have a solid 36 hour rain day). The Birch cottage was very modern but still gave you the in the woods feel. Went hiking for a bit, swimming in the lake and a lot of reading on the dock.. The hosts were your cottage neighbour and made everything very easy for us and accessible if needed! We hope to be able to get back. Would recommend!!

Wonderful Escape, Welcoming Hoats

Louise and James were welcoming hosts in a serene setting and easily available for any questions or concerns. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and spacious. We were three adults plus a dog and had no problem finding quiet zones to curl up with a book or enjoy the outdoors. The kitchen was well equipped with any appliances you might need. However, we generally used the BBQ. The beds were comfortable and bedrooms large. The bathroom clean with plenty of hot water for us all. The lake water was crystal clear and beautifully calm. We enjoyed using the canoe to paddle about as well as swimming throughout the day. James kindly took me on a guided walk on their trails which was incrediblely enjoyable. It quickly became clear that Louise and James care about the comfort of their guests as well as appreciate and respect the land. It was a wonderful week in a wooded oasis and we hope to return soon.

Would not go back

Not as private as we thought "the beach" is behind the owner house, cottage has an ant infestation everything was covered in ants, mold all threw the cottage which is frustrating when you have a child with respiratory issues not impressed, wouldnt say it was clean when we showed up everything we used had to be washed/ sanitized due to ants and mouse droppings, we had rain while there; water was coming out of the ceiling all over and out of light fixtures, threw closed windows the place is not water tight to say the least hints the molds all over definitely not a new issue, would not recommend this place. We would recommend a health and safety check from vrbo before renting again.

Wonderful stay!

Our group of two adults and four children (ages 9-16) had a wonderful time at this cottage. James and Louise were excellent hosts, friendly and helpful, who were also very respectful of our privacy. We loved spending time in and around the small, quiet lake. It was perfect for paddling, swimming and exploring. The kids were kept busy tromping through the woods, looking for frogs and trying to spot wildlife. The chorus of frogs and birds in this protected area is remarkable. The cottage was just the right size for us and has a good layout. The rooms and beds were comfy, the living area was perfect for games and movies. While the kitchen doesn't have a stove or oven, the appliances provided suited us just fine. We brought just enough groceries to fit the small fridge and freezer, and restocked in town partway through the week. Just a 5 minute drive away, it gave us an excuse to stop for ice cream along the highway. Overall, a very enjoyable stay. Thank you Louise and James!

Annual Moms Weekend

10/10! This property had all we needed and more. We booked last min due to a change in schedules for a few girls who were no longer able to make it so we were on the hunt for a smaller property as it would just be 4 of us this year (plus a 2 month old). Well let me tell you we had the most amazing and relaxing time. The accomodations were perfect plenty of room for sleeping, cooking and getting ready for our days. We were there for 3 nights 4 days and right from the moment we got into town both louise and james were welcoming us with open arms. We received a wonderful walk through of the cabin and property including some fun facts of wildlife and minerals in the area. All the amenities we needed were at our fingertips in the kitchen and the bbq making meal time a breeze! The lake water is so clear and because it isnt too deep its quite warm too! Bon fires were amazing looking up at the clear skys filled with endless stars. I could go on and on about this amazing spot, but i think the best thing i can say is WE CANT WAIT TO BOOK AGAIN!!! thank you again

Not a good experience

Cooking was painful because of no stove or oven. Found out when we got there that it was solar powered. Batteries were dead by 9pm and beeped all night every night. The on demand hot water was for a sink not shower. 1 minute you were frozen then next minute scalding hot. Not enjoyable to shower. Also flooring was lifted up in 1 spot and my cousin cut his toe open on tbe flooring. The hosts were nice people but really should spend a weekend in their cottage and see how bad it was. It was way too much money for what it was. Won't be back.
