ATHENS
On the other hand however you are also “just around the corner” from Athens center, one of Europe's oldest and most interesting cities, with many breathtaking places to see and visit.
Athens center is easily accessible by public transport. The 122 Athens urban bus, which passes every 25 minutes, takes you along the beautiful coastal road straight to the metro station, from which it is just a few stops to the Acropolis. The trip by bus and metro to Athens center takes a little over 1 hour.
A 5 day unlimited travel card for both the Athenian 122 bus and the Athens metro, only costs 9 euro.
Apart from the famous Acropolis, the city also offers a number of other large impressive ancient sites, where one feels like taking a journey back into time.
Little electric street trains, open air double deck “hop on hop off” buses, horse carts, stand up mopeds and family bike carts, are just a few of the means available to explore the unique Athens center around the Acropolis. The new impressive Acropolis museum, which has been voted as one of the best museums in the world, is a “must”.
The world famous "Plaka" Athens tourist area, with its many narrow roads full of little shops and restaurants with live music, is considered to be one of the best tourist areas of any city in Europe and is an “obligatory visit”, both during the day as well as in the evening; experiencing that special “Athens by Night” feeling !
Lycabettus hill truly is impressive, offering a stunning view of the city. The “Teleferic” train, takes you up the hill though a tunnel inside (!) the mountain, where you can sit at the top restaurant and have a magnificent view over the city all the way to Piraeus harbor.
