Whimsy - An Historic Bungalow by the Beach

Whimsy is a charming Craftsman bungalow. Built in 1922, it is one of Galveston's historic gems, designated as a City of Galveston landmark and the only bungalow featured on the Galveston Historical Homes Tour in 2022.

It boasts light-filled spaces, vintage details and an interior decor that is bright and cheerful and downright fun!

The bungalow showcases a comfy, chic Boho style and provides the perfect setting for enjoying colorful times on the island.

Inside the bungalow, you'll find a living room, dining room, sunroom (with a double bed), two large bedrooms (with a total of three queen beds), large and updated bathroom and a uniquely rustic kitchen. There, you will appreciate the exposed brick post, original shiplap walls and custom-made wood cabinets, counters and backsplash.

The bathroom features original tile floors, a large walk-in shower and custom-made wood shower enclosure.

The bungalow also has a large front porch and a fenced and palm-shaded backyard with an outdoor shower and large wood deck, complete with a gas grill, picnic table, Adirondeck chairs and tables, and a classic Coca-Cola cooler for icing down your favorite beverages.

Whimsy is located just eight blocks from the beach. It is equally convenient to Pleasure Pier, Moody Gardens and The Strand, with all its shops, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Simply fantastic in every way

I've done a lot of travel, and this place was at the VERY TOP! Amazing decor, tons of extras, I can't say enough good things. Even the neighbors were awesome! Worth every penny!

Lovely Well Kept Property

Lovely historic home. The is comfortable and well kept, hard to think of it as 100yr old house. It is locate minutes away from most Galveston attractions, so it makes it easy to enjoy what the island has to offer.

Wonderful!

We loved our stay here! It was a great location with a short walk to the beach. We also walked over to the Strand from here (though that might be a bit too far for some guests to walk). Beverly was very kind and super easy to reach. Highly recommend this charming, historic, cozy bungalow!

SUPER CUTE BEACH HOUSE

This house is SUPER cute and very comfortable. The host, Beverly, is AWESOME. there was an AC problem the first night. I was going to wait until 8 to text her, out of courtesy. She noticed the problem since the thermostat is digital and texted me even before I messaged her. She had her repair person out, while we were gone for the day, and the problem was corrected when we returned home. I spoke with her several times as she was making sure everything was fixed and we were comfortable. We will DEFINITELY stay here again. Loved the house. Host is the best. Location was great. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could!

Great Galveston get away

This home was an amazing find in Galveston the owner it was excellent at communicating and was so thoughtful and providing games and snacks for our family. We would highly recommend this property and will plan on staying again.

Great stay

Came here for a week getaway and the property was perfect! It had everything we needed. Host is very responsive to questions and the neighbors were great too! It is a short drive to the beach and the back yard was perfect for relaxing and for our pups. We would absolutely stay here again!

Adorable Bungalow

My partner and I had a great time here. The bungalow was absolutely adorable and exactly what we were looking for in a quiet weekend for two. It’s central location also made it a convenient distance to just about everything, downtown, the beach, etc. it all felt very close. If we found ourselves in Galveston again, we’d definitely look to stay here again.

Cheerful and comfortable home!

The house is fun and bright - easily entry and access to owner (who was attentive and helpful). Location is great for hitting Strand area and taking walks around the neighborhood or to seawall. The kitchen was well stocked, beds are comfy, water is hot and AC is cold! Enjoyed our stay - thanks Beverly!

Absolutely 100% perfection.

We came here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The house is equipped with everything we needed to cook and be together. The beds are sooooo comfortable. Every little thing we could imagine we needed - she had. Beverly is the best host. We also had our fur babies with is and the outdoor space was perfect for them. The porches were delightful. And the location is great. So close to the beach and all the things Galveston has to offer. We will be back. Thanks Beverly.

Perfect get away

Beautiful bungalow just 1/2 mile from the sea wall. Very well stocked with kitchen items, spices, etc which made our stay even easier. Owner was very responsive. The owner even left a sweet card and a goodie basket for us (which my boys really enjoyed!). Beds were very comfy and the linens were great quality. We needed a place that would accommodate our fur babies as well, and the backyard is not only secure for them, but it was the perfect place for us to hang out to. The entire property was perfect! 10/10

Beautiful, relaxing, and definitely going back!

The home owner was completely amazing, she had everything we needed in the house, and if something came about she answered my questions very quickly. We will definitely be back for another family trip in this beautiful home and highly suggest you doing the same!

Fabulous Bungalow by the Beach

Bungalow by the Beach, also named "Whimsy," is a treasure. It was built in 1922 and offers a rich history, evident in every room of the house. Beverly is a gracious host, providing not only the essentials, but many extra goodies as well, like a kitchen stocked with condiments, a spice rack, every utensil you could want, and a treat basket to delight the young and old. The bungalow is immaculately clean and beautifully appointed - not just a place to sleep, but a place to relax and enjoy. How I wish we had had more time - we will definitely return. Thank you, Beverly, for sharing this wonderful home!

Comfy Quirky Whimsy Bungalow

Hated to leave the life after a week. Cottage is a good distance to the beach where we walked daily. One bathroom with shower and laundry sufficient for two close family but might be a stretch if at full capacity of 6-8. Wonderful fenced yard and easily pet-friendly stay.

We stayed in this wonderful home for 11 nights. The house itself is a vacation with its colorful furniture and decor. The front porch gives you a choice of seating with a rocking chair, glider, and a porch swing! Then there is the back deck where you can relax in adirondack chairs and view the palm-shaded grassy lawn. Inside, you will find a mix of styles - retro Americana, beachy tropical, and south of the border; somehow it all goes together beautifully. My favorite touch was the fiestaware dishes in every color. The matresses were all comfortable and the bathroom was stocked with high quality bath and beach towels. We cooked most of our own meals and appreciated the well equipped large kitchen complete with spice rack full of various seasoning. The house is centrally located -- about half a mile from the beach, a pleasant walk. On the days we took our young grandson to the beach with our umbrella, towels, noodles, etc., we drove our car and parked along the seawall which is only $1 per hour and free after 6 pm. The host is the best and most responsive owner I have ever encountered. We wish we could have stayed for the rest of the summer!

Wonderful get away

Beverly was absolutely amazing to communicate with! She was the most hospitable Ive ever experienced leaving us a nice note and snack basket that my kids found so fun!! She was inviting, warm and reassured us that our stay during this time would help keep us safe and enjoyable. Beverly was everything you could ask for in a host and her bungalow is adorable and inviting!!

She has always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends in Galveston - at the beach and in the historic Strand area. Becoming an IBC (Islander By Choice) and owning an historic home she can share with others has (finally) become a dream come true.

"I brought the bungalow in April 2017. I took one look at it and, admittedly, fell in love. I have always favored the architecture of the 1920s, so I was immediately attracted to the exterior of the bungalow with its classic front porch, welcoming turquoise front door and porch swing. Even so, it was the interior of the bungalow that sold me - the funky furniture and decor, bright colors, etc. All put a smile on my face the minute I walked inside. The bungalow is, for sure, a happy place! "
