Easdale Cottage - unique island, stunning sea views
Stay on 'the island that roofed the world' - just a 3 minute ferry ride from the mainland, with swimming, walking, wildlife - and no cars or streetlights. Yet a stone's throw from a great pub, shops and museums, and just a 30 minute drive to Oban, the 'gateway to the isles'.
No 64 is a delightful mid-terrace cottage on the unique conservation, car free island of Easdale in the Inner Hebrides of Western Scotland. Formerly one of the Slate Islands ‘that roofed the world’, Easdale Island is situated in the Firth of Lorn Marine Area of Special Conservation and is connected to the mainland by a 3 minute pedestrian-only ferry.
The cottage is finished to a very high standard throughout and, although recently built and having all modern conveniences, it looks like it has stood on this tiny Argyll island for 200 years.
This unspoilt island has a popular bar/restaurant, The Puffer (currently undergoing a change of ownership so please check their website – there is also The Oyster Bar on the mainland), a community hall that hosts a variety of events during the year, together with its own award winning museum dedicated to the history of the Slate Workers.
Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, sea pursuits are popular – sea kayaking, diving, fishing and mooring for your own boat on the island. There are also boat trips available locally to the famous Corryvreckan Whirlpool, Iona, Colonsay and whale watching in the summer months.
What a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. No street lights to keep you awake, no traffic. Listen to the sound of the waves, watch dolphins in the sound and just totally ‘chill out’ or even ‘take a dip’ in the swimming quarry!
This one and a half storey mid-terrace cottage, which sleeps six, was built in 2010 and is finished and decorated to a very high standard, with double glazing, electric central heating, together with under floor heating in the wet room and kitchen/diner, making it very warm and comfortable. There is also an environmentally friendly Solar Panel to help with the hot water. All electricity is included.
On the ground floor, there is the living room with wooden floor and cast iron open fire with slate hearth, included is a limited supply of fuel. There is a flat screen TV with Freeview, and a DVD player with small library. CDs can also be played on the DVD player. There is a wireless Broadband internet connection and a separate telephone should your signal break down.
Also on the ground floor is a fully equipped kitchen/diner with electric Everhot Range cooker, integrated dishwasher and washing machine, microwave and fridge/freezer, with a slate floor throughout. A double bedroom with wooden floor is also situated on the ground floor.
The slate floored wet room has a cast iron free standing claw foot bath to indulge yourself in, with a separate electric shower in the walk in wet area.
The wooden floored upstairs consists of two bedrooms and a shower room. The master bedroom has a 5ft king-sized double bed and views over Easdale Sound to the conservation village of Ellenabeich and Dun Mor on the Isle of Seil. There is also a twin bedroom with similar views. The shower room has an electric shower.
All beds have white cotton waffle linen and duvets provided. Bath and hand towels are also included for your use.
In addition to the above there is also a starter pack of:
Antibacterial hand wash, toilet rolls
Cotton wool balls and buds
Washing up liquid, washing machine tablets, dishwasher tablets
Washing up sponge
