Traditional house in Tinos
The house is located in the charming village of Smardakito, one of the most beautiful and flowering of the island. The village has an excellent tavern, a charming catholic church (Saint Anthony of Padua), as well as a famous source, which comes from the initiates of other villages. From where luxuriant laurels and bougainvilleas, along whitewashed alleyways, and fruit trees, thrive here and there.
Last of the village, and therefore without vis-à-vis, the house enjoys a magnificent view over the valley, dotted with olive trees and dozens of these ancient dovecotes of beauty, architectural jewels of Tinos, classified heritage of Unesco.
Completely restored in 2015, the house is composed of two levels: the traditional residential part, which gives on a terrace, overlooking the garden and the valley; and the "katoï", the lower part, former cellar where the inhabitants of the Cycladic Islands stored the crops, the jars (oil and wine), dried figs, potatoes, hay for the animals or agricultural tools.
Upstairs, the traditional living area is the image of all Cycladic houses: a living room on which gives two small rooms with monastic sobriety (1 bed 140x190 and 1 bed 120x190), a dining room and a kitchen. This floor also has a bathroom with spectacular views of the valley.
Below, the katoï is composed of a vast entrance hall, with two lime benches, on which one comes to take a nap "in the fresh air" or to read the books of the library. After the first vault, we enter the second part of katoï, where there is a large dressing room, the phone and the internet box, the entrance to the master bedroom.
Adorned with a large bay window, workshop style, which opens onto the garden and the valley, the master bedroom (bed 150X200) overlooks a bathroom.
At the bottom of the katoï, before passing the last vault that leads to the corridor, is an extra bed (90 X 190), wrought iron, behind a screen.
In the corridor of the bottom, were arranged a toilet and a bathroom, also behind a glass roof of workshop. At the end of the corridor is a second bedroom (bed 140X190), also with a magnificent view.
The garden has three levels (terraces), dotted with fruit trees (fig, pomegranate, plum, etc.).
