Hi Caroline, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. While we’re sorry that you were disappointed with your stay, we do feel it’s important to provide some context and clarification for future guests reading your comments. What is particularly unfortunate is that many of the concerns raised in your review were things we could have addressed during your stay had you communicated them to us. I personally reached out during your visit to check in and ask how things were going, but received no response. We would have welcomed the opportunity to resolve any legitimate issues while you were in the home, rather than discovering them afterward in a public review. For the benefit of future guests: 1. The toilet seat had come loose very recently and has already been repaired. 2. The refrigerator does not normally slide forward when opened. We were unaware this was happening during your stay, and it is now secure and functioning normally. 3. The refrigerator door cannot simply have its handle reversed. Doing so would require replacing the entire door. This has never presented an issue for our guests, and the kitchen provides ample space to use the refrigerator comfortably in its current configuration. 4. The kitchen baseboards are secured. We have inspected them and are not aware of any loose baseboards, so we’re unsure what specifically you were referring to. 5. Extension cords: The house has had electrical upgrades, but it is a 115-year-old home and, like many older properties, has fewer built-in outlets than a modern home. We agree that the current number of visible cords is not ideal and already have plans to improve this. 6. Ice cube trays: We were unaware that these had broken. Had you mentioned it, we would have been happy to replace them during your stay. 7. Cleaning: The home is professionally cleaned before every guest arrives. We’re sorry you found dirt underneath the sofa, but this was clearly not representative of the cleaning service provided throughout the home. 8. Windows: The windows can be opened without screens. This is how our own family uses them, and we have not previously received a concern about this. 9. Shower temperature: In six years of hosting, we have never received a complaint about the shower becoming excessively hot when a toilet is flushed. We appreciate you bringing it to our attention and will investigate it further. 10. Bedside lighting: Every bedroom has a bedside lamp that provides adequate reading light. Your suggestion regarding built-in device charging is a useful one, and we’ll consider it as a future improvement. We certainly understand that every guest has different expectations and preferences. However, some of the points raised in your review are not deficiencies so much as preferences about how an older home should be configured. Our home is approximately 115 years old, and while we continuously invest in maintenance and improvements, it is not—and is not represented as—a newly built modern property. We take genuine maintenance concerns seriously and are always willing to correct things when we know about them. What we cannot reasonably do is address problems we were never told about. We’re sorry that the home was not to your taste, but we also want future guests to have an accurate understanding of the property and of our approach as hosts. We have hosted for six years and take considerable pride in providing a safe, comfortable and welcoming home for families. Had you communicated these concerns during your stay, we would have made every reasonable effort to address them. We wish you had given us that opportunity.

Once again I’m sorry you were disappointed with our neighbourhood. It is definitely a multicultural, diverse, and urban neighbourhood as are common in large cities. We are very centrally located and our family has always felt safe here among such a diverse population.

Pat and her guests were truly a delight to host. Specifically, I found Pat to be a warm, tidy, respectful and kind hearted person with excellent communication skills. She was a pleasure to host and we would be lucky to have her stay with us again in the future.
