Live Your Outdoor Dreams Without "Roughing It"
The Aspens Lodge, located 20 miles upriver from Meeker and nearby the Trappers Lake Wilderness area, is an ideal base for adventuring into the surrounding national forest and wilderness areas. Whether you have come to hike, bicycle, trail run, fish, hunt, cross-country ski, snowmobile, or explore the area in an OHV, you'll find yourself ideally situated to pursue your dream.
The Aspens Lodge can easily accommodate a party of 8 to 10 persons. Modern and rustic decor seamlessly meld together in a common area that contains a fully equipped kitchen, dining, and sitting areas. Four tastefully decorated bedrooms each have their own private bath. Enjoy sunshine and the surrounding woods from the front and back decks. Inside, snuggle up near the gas fireplace or enjoy the handmade and antique furniture, original artwork and photography highlighting the beauty of the surrounding area.
The Aspens Lodge is an ideal base for your active lifestyle. During warmer weather, (bicycling, running, OHV rides, fishing, hiking, paddle boarding,) during winter (cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling) are all possibilities that are close at hand. Whether you hike, trail run, or make arrangements with local outfitters to go by horseback, by all means go "wild" by venturing into the nearby Trappers Lake Wilderness Area. Serene and majestic, the wilderness provides a restorative therapy like no other. Trailheads for various trails leading into the wilderness are located nearby: the Oyster Lake trailhead is one mile away; the South Fork campground trailhead is only 11 miles away; the Marvine Lakes trailhead is only 16 miles away; and various trailheads at Trappers Lake are only 28 miles away.
If your preferred means of accessing the "great outdoors" is of the motorized variety, you'll find The Aspens Lodge to be an ideal base while you explore the extensive trail network that extends around Sleepy Cat Mountain. You can access this network at points nearby, including Lake Avery which is just a few minutes away. During the winter, many snowmobilers use a parking lot that we provide as a courtesy higher up on our property to set off on rides into the high country accessible only by snow mobile or cross-country skiing on the Buford-New Castle Road.
But you don't have to leave the Aspens Lodge to enjoy nature. Nature, with its healing and liberating power, is immediately at hand to facilitate relaxation and provide a perfect setting for gathering together with family and friends. The surrounding hills, which display a palette of colors that vary with the season, the fresh air, the babbling of a nearby brook, or a cozy fireplace inside provide an idyllic setting for simply relaxing. A well-provisioned kitchen ensures that you can prepare and serve family style meals in a stylish but rustic ambience.

Preguntas frecuentes
Acerca del anfitrión
Anfitrión: Gary Oba
Happy to take "the road less taken," I'm not afraid to be lost--unless, of course, there are hungry wolves, mountain lions, or bears running quickly in my direction. A 30-year career as an American diplomat allowed me to explore and become intimately acquainted with far-flung locales in West Africa and East Asia, but my Colorado roots provided continuity and an enduring sense of home. I am a firm believer that quality of life is enhanced with active and regular participation in outdoor activities and exercise. No where have I found a place more suited for outdoor activities than the area surrounding the Aspens Lodge. While I have had to adapt my regimen to the geography, climate, and culture where I have been at the moment, I enjoy walking, running, bicycling, cross-country skiing, hiking, trail running, snorkeling, swimming, taiko drumming, and doing yoga or strength training. My participation in triathlon and other endurance events has led some to acknowledge my stamina but question my sanity. Having retired, I'm turning over a new leaf as the owner/operator of The Aspens Lodge. Having fished commercially for salmon in Alaska, organized dog-sled races and Eskimo dances as a City Manager in Alaska, and labored as an intrepid diplomat representing the United States in far-flung posts around the world, I now look forward to sharing the natural wonders of this beautiful area in the mountains of Northwest Colorado.
Por qué eligió esta propiedad
The Aspens Lodge is located on a mountain-side tract of land that borders the Buford-New Castle road. My parents purchased the place from the original homesteaders many decades ago. I currently live in the original but renovated homestead cabin. The nearby "lodge" or guesthouse was built much more recently to accommodate visiting family members who insisted upon modern amenities and creature comforts during their infrequent sojourns to the "cabin in the woods."
Qué distingue a esta propiedad
While cellphone access is available along with limited bandwidth satellite internet, this remains the ideal location to take a cleanse from the digitalized world. Unplug. Detox. Instead, listen to the river or the calls of a pair of sandhill cranes that nest nearby. Read a good book while resting in the shade of the aspen and spruce trees. Breathe the fresh air. Relax. Revitalize. Each season is different, but each season is beautiful.
