Beautiful pet friendly lodge in a quaint fishing village and sleeps 16

This spacious charming lodge is located in Engelhard. Boasting five bedrooms and two baths, this house could easily accommodate two families or a large group. We are pet friendly. Renters are responsible for any pet damage. There is a beautiful farm across from the lodge that has black Angus cows, horses and a small pond.

Pamlico Sound is just down the street. Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge (full of trails suited for hiking or biking) and Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge are both just a few miles away. The beaches of the OBX are 45 minutes away, including Kitty Hawk, NC Aquarium @ Manteo, Wright Brothers Memorial, Jennette's Fishing Pier, and The Lost Colony. Historic Bath is an hour away where you can learn more about Black Beard. Swan Quarter National Wildlife Refuge is 30 minutes away. Pungo National Wildlife Refuge is about 45 minutes. Eco Tours are available at neighboring townships. Charter boats and hunting guides are for hire in the area. Numerous State of North Carolina Game Lands surround the area.

Thank you for staying with us. Yes! We are very proud of our rural location. Lake Mattamuskeet is 3 miles, largest natural in NC with beautiful trails and wildlife. 45 minutes to OBX beaches. 20 minutes to Ocracoke ferry. 20 minutes to Chris' Grocery in Swan Quarter. Engelhard Harbor, boat ramps, Pamlico Sound are 1/4 mile. Restaurants within a mile. [Martelle's, Sugar and Spice, H&L, Far Creek... many more I. Fairfield.

It was a very nice house. We really enjoyed having plenty of room for everyone. It is an old house, so there's plenty of character to make the house interesting. It's about an hour away from the "big" stuff, but great for wildlife viewing. Our kids loved catching frogs and toads in the yard and petting the horses especially!

Pros: Pretty country setting, easy check in and check out, good communication with owners, friendly neighborhood dog, lots of room for big families, well stocked with games. Cons: Couldn’t be outside at night to enjoy the fire pit because of the mosquitoes. BRING BUG SPRAY! Hot water heater makes using the downstairs bathroom or tub impossible, they never get warm. Front screen door handle falls off every time you open it. Nice overall house, old farm house with quarks. Quiet location outside of the beach, easy daily drive to Nags Head.

So happy you stayed with us. You are the only group that has complained about the hot water heater. When you have a group of 12..... kind of hard to have enough hot water for everyone on demand. We have no control over mosquitos. We are a rural location... love the peace and quiet. Closest grocery store is a 20 minute drive to Swan Quarter. Dollar General is 1/4 mile for staples and snacks. Thank you for choosing our lodge.

Home away from home

Great spot to just get away in the country. Quiet, small town that has lots of little fishing holes and excellent crabbing. Just a hours drive into town and beaches.

Perfect clean home for your ENC getaway

We came down for a hunting trip and this property was great. Great area in Engelhard, ample beds, spotless on the inside, fully equipped kitchen and so much more. The owners made us feel at home and communication was great with some spot on recommendations.

This little country lodge was a home away from home. It was very clean and well kept. Enjoyed stay.

No issues renting this property. The owners answered every question and were always assessable.

Nice for a large group, We had plenty of room for our family of 7. The house was clean and comfy. Roanoke island/Nags Head is about an hour away. The plus side to that is that it’s very quiet with no traffic congestion. The negative is that larger grocery stores are a bit of a drive.

Thank you for staying with us! Yes, small grocery store is 20 minutes and Dollar General is 1/2 mile. Our cows and horses are fenced in and about a 100 feet out the front door. Very proud of our location. :)

Great Stay

The house was very well kept and clean when we arrived. There were easy to find instructions on the kitchen counter. Greg even had some suggested places to visit during our stay.

nice get away

My family and I enjoyed staying here. We were able to visit many things in the OBX from here. The house was big enough for 11 of us and2 dogs. The owners love animals as there are chickens, horses and cows that come with this place.

The Gibbs family goes back to days when Blackbeard called the OBX home. In fact my family descended from Blackbeard's first mate Gibbons, who had the choice to walk the plank or to be sent ashore at Gibbs' Point. Engelhard has been home for our family since the 1600s.

The lodge is one of the only rental properties in the area that can accommodate big/multiple families or groups. Very unique location that allows you to take advantage of everything our part of the world has to offer.
