We loved this experience. There is ample room for kids to play and explore. For us, this was a New Years Eve Retreat. The winter wonderland was everything we could ask for.

Perfect retreat

Exactly what we were looking for! The kids were never bored...fishing, kayaking, volleyball, games, s'mores. The setting was quiet and beautiful!

Great time

I went there with my friends for my 40th birthday. The place had charm and totally met my expectations. The value for providing lodging for large groups is very high and the scenic views were perfect.

Bed sizes were not as stated in VRBO. Floors were very uneven mainly in dining room. Needs updates everywhere. The house holds 15 people but there were only 12 towels and no hand towels or washcloths. We also had no extra toilet paper. We went out and purchased more TP, bath towels, hand towels, dish soap and paper towel. The owner did end up bringing some toilet paper also. There were many holes close to the firepit that we had to be careful not to step in and twist an ankle. Major ant problem in kitchen - we had to end up throwing food away because it became infested with ants. One of the TV remotes batteries were dead. On a positive note it’s a peaceful serene property and close to town and a pretty and quiet lake. The kids enjoyed fishing and caught several fish.

Its was a great property. Its does need more up keep the floors are the worst and it has a bad ant problem. But it is very relaxing and we had a great experience.

The cabin had room for all of us. The 16 of us never felt crowded. Loved the huge dining table and all the couches. I would appreciate more large bowls for serving and for salads etc. and some cookware without Teflon for the kitchen. It was nice having children’s dishes though and I loved all the coffee mugs! The floors do leave much to be desired but didn’t cause any issues. There’s talk of an even larger family event with more blue canoe properties!

Awesome and not

This stay is a mixed bag. The good: Friendly staff, boats come with cabin, provided charcoal and lot of good TP, common rooms clean, easy check in and out, counfy couches, big table. The bad: Some bed clothes unclean, lack of silverware, upstairs rooms to dusty, uneven floors and roof

Lots of fun!

Big place with plenty of room for the 11 people we had in our group. We did go out and buy ping pong balls as we couldn't find any and only a small lamp to light a big room. As we rented this to have a game place for our families to play games at we also had to go buy extra ligjts. We hope to enjoy this area when it is warmer and brighter next time.

Our family had a good time on the property. It’s quiet, the lake has enough canoes and kayaks so we never were waiting on any or felt pressure to get off so others could use them. It’s helpful to know this property is kind of like a camp site. Different cabins, far enough away from each other for privacy but all within sight and sound. We stayed at hunters lodge, proximity to everything was great for that one! It’s true about this cabin specifically, it’s old, very uneven floors, that boarder dangerous. Nails jetting out and tile raised. In addition to weird steps into and out of spaces. It’s not a big deal for adults, but was a concern for my 18 month old. So be on the lookout for this if you have littles. The property is great and had a lot of potential, but falls short of expectations. Horseshoe pits, great! Only Two horseshoes. Basketball blacktop not basketball hoops (but we brought our pickleball net and it was perfect!) Our biggest issues were… 1- the ants. It’s really terrible, inside constantly dancing around little sugar ants all over the bathroom floor and counters. 2- If coming in the summer know it’s all window units only in the bedrooms (except one bedroom doesn’t have one), nothing in common spaces so it’s quite hot there. 3- The window units and house itself wasn’t very clean. I didn’t want to even look under the couch cushions because I could see the trail of previous food and crumbs. 4- geese poop. All over the property. So always wear shoes.

Beautiful and peaceful location

Amazing space. We loved our stay. Property needs a little maintenance of floors and handrail. Central aire instead of wall units you have to place yourself would make this premier. Row boats need a little love on the ear brackets and more life vests and kayak paddles would be welcome as well. Still five stars!!! Great space and well decorated. The peaceful private lake is the star! No cell service with solid wifi was a plus to unplug. Fishing was world class. Absolutely massive bass, far, gold and bullhead throughout pristine lake. Beautiful swimming. We would love to visit again!

Not exactly as the pictures show

When we got there we found the cabin in significant disrepair. The floors sag and the entire section of the cabin that appears to have been an old addition is sagging and unlevel. The cabin had an infestation of small ants and other pests. It looked like the pictures were 10 years old when the cabin was in better shape.

We felt this property was over sold on Vrbo. We appreciated the clean beds and bathroom and the large fridge. The view of the lake was very nice and it was a quiet area. The old lodge had charming qualities. But there many areas that had been let go and no one was managing. The entrance to the lodge had weeds, over grown bushes and a spider infested porch that was dirty and dusty. Not a nice welcome. The towels were clean but there weren’t enough for 15 people. Nor were there enough wash cloths. The kitchen was missing lids for the pots and pans and no pizza pans. The electric kettle mentioned in the amenities was also missing. The patio furniture mentioned in the amenities and pictured was just one falling apart and gross couch. The biggest disappointment was the run down condition of the lake front, dock and row boats(the oars were broken) and swimming docks, all over grown and covered with swan manure. We ended up going to the public access of clear lake to swim. Modifing the add for hunters lodge to a more honest descriptions would help future guests to not feel disillusioned.

We had a great time staying at this cabin. The living room was spacious with plenty of seating for everyone to hang out comfortably, and the dining room easily fit our whole group for meals. Outside, we really enjoyed the picnic tables and fire pit area which gave us a nice spot to relax and unwind. The whole property had a quiet, charming feel and the kids loved exploring the creek and playing on the playground. It was close enough that the adults could keep an eye on them from the house without worrying about safety. The cabin was generally clean for a rustic spot and had a cozy, welcoming vibe.That said, the kitchen was definitely bare bones. There were hardly any pans or cooking utensils so we had to get creative with meal prep. The oven was left pretty dirty for us but worked fine other than being a bit smoky. We also had some issues with ants and there were only a couple of rolls of toilet paper stocked for our group of 12 which felt a little underprepared. The house itself is extremely unlevel and while that’s not a huge deal, it did make things tricky for a few folks in our group who were over 60 and not as steady on their feet. Still, we had a lovely stay and would recommend this for a large group especially with kids. By the way the “hole in the floor” in other reviews is a cellar access covered with a plywood door. Yeah I probably wouldn’t stand on it but it’s not as dramatic as they make it sound, it’s in the pantry not the middle of the kitchen.

We’d never stay here again without much needed repairs, cleaning and fixes.

First thing your hit with when entering is a musty mold smell. Then you walk on the floors and realize this place is close to falling apart. The floors are so uneven they are unsafe if you have any walking trouble, your head is lower than your feet and there are soft spots everywhere. In the kitchen there is a board covering a big hole in the floor and since it’s just laying loose on it, it is unstable and you might fall in it. It’s a large area covered by the board, about three feet. The bedrooms seem to have no heat in them and the rental only provided one thin blanket per bed so we had to go out and buy multiple blankets for everyone, we also had to buy lamps because there was not good lighting in the dining, it was very dark. There were electric outlets hanging out of the walls in multiple rooms. The showers had red and black mold in them. There was no grill as advertised and steps for every room. I asked about the room situation since we had a handicapped person in our group that doesn’t walk well and can’t do steps and they never shared how dangerous this rental could be for disabled people. You can’t even get walkers through the doorways so we had to buy canes. There were mouse droppings everywhere and bugs all over. I could go on about all the problems but there are so many. If we had any other options, we would have left, but it was Christmas week and we flew family in so we were stuck. The redeeming things were the game room, dining table and large family area.

Camp Blue Canoe is a great property. The lake is beautiful and we enjoyed time kayaking, fishing, and walking the grounds. The house has unique character and a lot of potential. That being said, there are quite a few improvements that are needed.Although air conditioning is listed, the pictures are deceiving and there are only window units in 5 of the bedrooms. The air conditioners are very dirty and full of dust and dead bugs. Due to running the 5 air conditioners, and 5 large fans, we lost power in half of the house numerous times. We spent over half of our stay with no power in the upstairs bedrooms or the living room.We contacted the host and they were responsive but having extension cords ran through the house does not seem like a suitable or safe solution. We had no lights upstairs and no ceiling fans or lights in the main living area. Upon arrival, the dock was covered in goose poop leaving it unable to be used. After we requested the dock be cleaned the host did come over and shovel the dock, but every morning we had to clean the dock due to the geese pooping over night. We were also unable to use the beach or swimming platforms due to all the goose poop.We were grateful that the host did offer us a small refund for the inconveniences of the trip, but it was overall a disappointing experience for a family getaway that we look forward to all year.

Served the purpose of housing 8 of us

The property was a great location, on a small pond with swans, and a firepit by the water. The unit was clean enough, but lacking basic supplies like paper towel, napkins, pot holders, dish towels, ping pong balls! And the lighting wasn't very good - couldn't play games at the large dining room table because we couldn't see well enough. Bathrooms and kitchen were clean. Kitchen had enough dishes for probably 20 people, which was nice. All but one bathroom require a step(s) of some sort - with limited lighting this could be a challenge. Property outside was great - nice walks and we had a great fire at night. Beautiful to wake up to.

Hunters lodge

Cabin was big enough for my whole family in town for a wedding. On the lake with fishing and swans. Not sure it is a swimming lake but I am more of a pool girl. Cabin is older, but clean, and floors are creaky and half the lights didn't work, but that was all part of the experience! We embraced it and enjoyed our weekend with the ability to have the whole family in one place.

Cozy and comfortable, yet spacious.

We loved our time here. After loosing my sister to Covid a few months ago, we needed to do something all together as a family. This location fit our needs perfectly-- a nice big living room for everyone to sit together and talk or play games. A large kitchen table where we gathered for mealtime and for homework and writing thank yous from the funeral. The house is old, and that gives it a lot of unique charm. But there were plenty of comfortable beds for everyone. If you're looking for fancy and formal, keep looking. If you're looking for cozy and comfortable, this is the place.

Amazing outdoor activities

The house was well kept and had all that we needed. The hosts were responsive and helpful in addressing small items that came up over the weekend. The lake, canoes and beach made the weekend amazing. All the family enjoyed all the available activities. We will be back for sure.

Fantastic Stay

Had a great time, wish the grill was a little larger since we had full party of 15, grilling for so many that much food took a while. nice area close to stores, when we needed supplies. Overall fantastic time.
