Enjoy your stay at the Train Conductor’s Cottage! Welcome to our charming home in a family neighborhood, just a couple of blocks away from the Metra train to Chicago & from West Chicago's authentic Mexican restaurants.

We are close to Wheaton College, North Central College, Dupage Airport, and Central Dupage Hospital.

The property has a French country cottage vibe. It was very comfortable stay. Our bathroom door got locked and Jeff was very helpful. He was approachable and fast to reply. The check in and check out instructions were very clear and easy to follow.

It is a lovely cottage in a quiet neighborhood. Everything was clean and the cottage is well appointed. It was the perfect spot to call “home” for a couple of days to launch our daughter off to Wheaton college! The owner is very responsive and attentive.

The cottage was a great place to stay for a few days with the family. It was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. It is nice that there are four bedrooms and two baths. Everyone had their own space if they needed to rest, but there is room to gather together for meals and conversation. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies. The spice cabinet was appreciated. The yard was very pretty with lilies blooming. The neighborhood is very walkable and if want to catch the train it is a short walk away. The owner has been very helpful in getting an item that was left behind to us. I would recommend the cottage for a family or couple to stay for a restful vacation.

Very pleasant stay

The house was very nicely kept and well stocked with dishes, condiments, etc. There was plently of room for our large family. 2 cars can easiily fit in the driveway. Communication with the host was excellent.

Super clean and so adorable!

Felt right at home in this property in a safe part outside the city! Very clean and comfortable with lots of room to spread out. It does take about 30 minutes to get to downtown chicago from here but it’s worth the drive!

Cozy and Complete

This is the first Vrbo I have ever stayed at. I must say it was the best choice I could have made! Absolutely loved staying here. The vibe was so cozy and comfortable. Everything was in good working order, the kitchen was fully stocked with kitchen and dining essentials. This made my trip so much more enjoyable with my young kids. I loved that we could have breakfast or other meals here instead of having to eat out every meal. The neighborhood felt safe and comfortable. The playground in the back was a really nice feature that my kids adored. I was able to watch them play as I made meals. Working with the owner was so easy. He was very responsive, and considerate of our needs. We can't wait to stay here again!

Men's Volleyball Staycation

We stayed to watch our favorite college men's volleyball team play and the house was perfect for 4 girlfriends needing a place to visit and celebrate. We played card games, enjoyed great food in the area and slept well in the comfy beds.

Stay is great, but tight

We loved the property overall but some of us have difficulties with stairs and their are plenty of them in this unit. We had four of us staying and seating is limited. One in the wing chair and two on the loveseat meant someone had to sit at the kitchen table anytime we gathered together. Which was the entire time. Downstairs there is only a small loveseat as well. Just keep that in mind if you have plans to be at the unit more than out of it.anytime we gatehred.

A Great Base for Thanksgiving

We stayed at the Conductor's Cottage over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was a great base for us to visit our extended family in the area. The house was very comfortable, well stocked, and in a quiet neighborhood. Check in was easy and communicating with the host, Jeff, was fast and clear. This property has all the good things I look for when traveling with the family.

Quaint and quiet

This location is a fantastic spot for great food and calming moments. I was here with my sister and husband. This upstairs bedrooms were comfy and quiet. They bedrooms had room darkening curtains and that became necessary when trying to sleep past sunrise. Because we were there for an event, there was only exploration for meals. We did make it to Lynfred Winery for a toast while there and having the ability to cook leftovers was exactly what we needed. The coffee maker is in full use as well. Thanks to the amenities, we felt at home and comfortable.

Family visit

We went to west chicago to visit family that we havent seen for quite some time. They came to the house and all were impressed. Never felt uncomfortable and the house is more impressive than in pictures. Very enjoyable time. We plan on staying there again for our next trip

Nice but....

The house is nice, and maybe it's just you get what you pay for...but it had kind of a funky smell. The floors are also very loud and creaky, just an old house, which is fine, just wasnt expecting it. Also there is only one TV, so be aware of that. There is a small TV in the basement with one small couch to watch it on, so if you have a family and want to relax with a movie, it can be difficult. The owner was great communicating though and the house was in good shape overall.

After raising our family in this house, we renovated it for a vacation rental and with family help bought a bigger house for our family. We named this house after the train conductor we used to talk with as he walked back and forth to and from work every day at the local Metra train. We love this house and neighborhood and know you will too! Embedded in historic and friendly West Chicago with its easy access to favorite Mexican restaurants and the train to Chicago, this house is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your stay in Illinois.

Comfortable and inviting, with character and charm.

The Train Conductor’s Cottage—named in honor of our beloved neighbor, a retired train conductor—features a spacious layout, warm hardwood floors, and a blend of classic charm and modern comfort. The kitchen includes a dedicated coffee bar, and the patio and garden are especially lovely in spring and summer.

Please note: the stairs to the basement are a bit steeper than typical. Over four years of hosting, only two guests have found them difficult, but we recommend extra care for children and older adults. Please message us if you have any concerns about the stairs! The basement includes the twin beds, a second full bathroom, and the TV area.
