This historic cottage known as the Alston-Charlotte dates back to the mid 1700's and it is one of ten oldest existing homes in Historic Downtown New Bern. This rare cottage style home is brimming with character and charm. The whimsical backyard is perfect for relaxing complete with stone walls to offer privacy and off street parking. You will be in the heart of thriving Historic Downtown New Bern, a very short walk to shopping, restaurants, nightlife, and more! River tours, museums and historic walking tours await in New Bern or take a short 35 minute drive and see the Emerald Isle.

The house was so charming and kept its history alive in so many ways! The kitchen and bathrooms were fully stocked, more than you could even need! It was very clean and very comfortable. Right in the heart of downtown too! We had a wonderful time. The host was quick to respond to questions and offered a book with suggestions on things to do. Thanks so much for making our stay so special.

Overall this property was what we needed, for our family of 4, loved that it was pet friendly as we took our dogs and it had a fenced in back yard. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms nice and updated. Kitchen looked stocked, though we did not cook. Beds and furniture were comfy along with throw blankets to use while there. We didn’t get to enjoy the back porch much due to rain but it was nice to sit when the dogs were out in the back yard. The home is very close to Tryon Palace and diagonally across the street from a bar and brewery which one night had a food truck. It was also walkable to the main part of town and accessible from both the front door and the back door. Couple of things to note, the bedrooms do not have doors and the master is upstairs and the other room is in the basement. Additionally since this is an older home, the ceiling height is low so if you are taller it might be a tight fit. Great rental option in New Bern!

We enjoyed our stay so much. The hosts were most accommodating and checked with us throughout our stay to make sure that all was well. This home is cozy, charming and within walking distance of Tryon Palace, New Bern Trolley stop, historic homes, museums, shops and restaurants. The perfect home away from home. Very pet friendly and accommodating with everything you could imagine to keep your pet comfortable. Thank you for a wonderful experience and great memories to take home with us.

Beautiful corner lot with brick wall and picket fence for privacy. Gated driveway for off street parking.
Beautiful historic home. Easy access to downtown.

The Alston-Charlotte Cottage in New Bern was wonderful! Great property, every amenity you need, great location with an easy walk to town. Great brew pubs in the neighborhood. So close to everything - can’t say enough about how nice it was!.

Historic charm with modern vibe

Beautifully decorated and super clean. Impeccable attention to details that make a guest feel welcome. Lovely back deck for drinking morning coffee. Within a few blocks from great restaurants that we walked to every night. Would stay here again.

Cute and well done!

The house is perfect for a couple or small family. Amenities are great and the house is in excellent condition. It was everything we were looking for...walkable to downtown and fenced in yard for fur babies. Coffee shop and great restaurant a block away. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful house, great location, responsive host

My wife, our puppy and I stayed for three nights. The house was clean and everything we hoped for. The location was close to downtown and many cool historic houses & sites. The host was attentive and responsive.
