Immerse in nature’s beauty at the Bear Essentials Retreat located close to Wintergreen Resort, a year-round haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Bask in the comforts of our dog-friendly carriage house offering parking, accommodating up to 4 guests. Enjoy close proximity to breathtaking views at Devils Knob or savor a glass of local wine along the famed Nelson151 trail. Ideal for families or groups relishing mountain adventures or tranquil retreats.
Step inside our carriage house that carefully marries traditional mountain charm with modern conveniences. The heart of the home is our living room, featuring two plush chairs for Cozy conversations, a queen-sized sleeper sofa for extra resting space and a 55" smart TV for your entertainment needs. As you flow from the living space, you'll find our fully-equipped kitchenette, thoughtfully appointed with a refrigerator/freezer, an air fryer/toaster, and a griddle, perfect for crafting a hearty breakfast before heading out for a day of adventure. The nearby dinette offers the perfect space for enjoying meals and creating lasting memories. Our private bedroom is a haven of its own, featuring a queen bed with a trundle underneath for added comfort. Ample closet and dresser space are available for storage, providing a homely feel. The carriage house also houses a full bathroom located in the living area, ensuring convenience and comfort throughout your stay. Remember, our home is your home during this stay. We cater to both short term explorers or long term seekers of peace and tranquility.
Should heavy snow occur, we will have the premises cleared in a timely manner. A snow shovel and ice melt are provided and located in the entryway at bottom of stairs.
Additionally, the parking space is on an incline. In the event of snow, we advise to move your vehicle to the street until our management team can clear the driveway. Do not attempt to drive up or down the driveway in snow without 4 wheel drive.
The main house is frequently rented so please do not park in the driveway in front of the garage. The space provided for the carriage house is at the beginning of driveway labeled "Bear Essentials". Please respect the privacy of these renters as they will be respecting yours.
* Wood burning fires are prohibited outdoors.
* No candles allowed indoors.
* No smoking or vaping allowed indoors.

Great little place with plenty of room
Place was very clean and easy to find. We were just a short ride to the resort area where we ate at The Edge. The views were amazing!

My husband, our dog ans I spent a night here on our way from New York to Asheville and really enjoyed the location. The tall straight-up staircase (no landing) from the front door to the living area could be tough for some people or older dogs. Just a heads-up. Also, if you are bringing a dog, especially one with longish hair, bring a pair of scissors along, because burrs are unavoidable, at least they were during our late October stay.The home has what's needed for a comfortable stay. I'm not sure where the microwave is, we didn’t find one, but there is a toaster oven in the otherwise well-equipped basic kitchen area.The house is a great homebase for enjoying the surrounding resort offerings and the awe-inspiring mountains. We loved being in the midst of it all.
