Historic 5 br Home w/ Sunroom 65" HDTV

Welcome to Tartan House, a beautifully preserved 1925 two-story Colonial filled with character, history, and tartan- and flannel-inspired details throughout.

The home features 5 bedrooms with 3 king beds and 2 queen beds, including a main-level former maid’s quarters, along with 3.5 bathrooms. Guests can enjoy formal dining for 8, a stocked kitchen, drip coffee maker, enclosed sunroom, and multiple spaces to relax and gather.

Outside, the rear sun deck offers another place to unwind, while the original iron and cobblestone fencing adds to the home’s historic charm.

Because Tartan House is more than 100 years old, it retains some of the quirks that come with a historic property. The original floors do squeak and creak throughout parts of the home, and the shower water pressure is lower than what you may find in a newer property. We want guests to know this in advance so there are no surprises during their stay.

Please also note that, as of September 2026, the fireplaces shown in the listing photos are decorative and are not operational.

Tartan House is best suited for guests who appreciate the warmth, architecture, and personality of an older home while still having the space and conveniences needed for a comfortable stay.

Great stay!

Overall great stay. We were in town for a softball tournament and was able to share the house with 2 other families thanks to Anthony for allowing an extra guest. We had everything we needed and close to Kroger for groceries and Dominos for pizza. I would recommend extra silverware.

This historic home was so quaint and allowed our family to be together for a family funeral weekend. We will likely stay here for future family events. Anthony was very responsive.

Perfect place for our family (wife two adult children and parents). Plenty of room and gathering areas. Very comfortable for leisure through the day.

Great gathering place

Nice quiet location near Milikin University. Spacious house with plenty of room for our entire family. We had grandparents, parents, and children all staying together. Plenty of room for the kids to play and toys for them to play with, and plenty of room for the adults to congregate and socialize. Would love to stay there again on our next trip if it works out.

Friday to Sunday. We cooked in a well-appointed kitchen. We chatted around this fireplace and that fireplace. We played games. We grilled. Perfect family reunion

Good experience

The house is in a quiet neighborhood, and the best of 4 rental houses we have stayed at in Decatur. The owner is VERY responsive to the very few issues we had. The house is well stocked with plenty of towels, supplies and spices/condiments, with great TV's and plenty of social space. Very comfortable with good light, and well maintained. Air conditioning works great also, and very comfortable.

Family vacation

Kitchen was great and fully stocked with everything you could need, including spices. The outside grill was new and worked great. It is an older house, so that meant some old oors, creaky floors, snd one of the bedrooms upstairs was very warm. They provided fans, andnothing was a deal breaker. The house also had more toys and games than expected which was a hit with 5 and 3 year old. We stay here again.

Wonderful Family Holiday Stay

The house made for a wonderful place to gather family for the holidays. Not only was the house itself perfect and comfortable for a group our size, but it was festively decked out for Christmas. The hosts are communicative and clearly care about making their guests comfortable and cozy. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Decatur.

Tartan House was built in 1925. The moment we stepped inside we fell in love. Its rich history, persevered character, and updated amenities make it a treasure as a short-term rental. Photos do not do it justice.

The high ceilings, massive sunroom, large bedrooms, original wood throughout.... so many details will make you never want to leave. We added all the amenities of a luxury hotel (Smart Heating & Air controls, HDTVs throughout, soap, shampoo, conditioner dispensers in every shower; memory foam beds - 3 kings, 2 Queens, spa style bath towels, microfiber wash clothes, fully stocked kitchen, drip coffee maker, all while preserving its historic charm.
