Everyday is a beach day! A magical beach retreat cottage at the water's edge, nicknamed Gadget. at Wades Cove at lower Chilmark Pond, has immediate, private access to the barrier beach on the Atlantic. just a short canoe paddle away. Swim at the beach after breakfast and before dinner, or all day!.Three bedrooms and a large new outdoor shower with beach and water views. Lovingly reimagined. Pond access to the barrier beach, facilitated by provided canoe and kayaks, plus a small aluminum pond boat with oars. Full bath indoors with flush toilet, propane powered stove, hot water heater and refrigerator and battery powered lighting. This is an off grid experience.
This perfect cottage has amazing water views and pond access to the most amazing barrier beach. Swimming is not in the shallow pond, but rather at the barrier beach. Alternate Chilmark beach sticker could be purchased to Lucy Vincent beach and Squibnocket Beach ,if desired.

On a private family estate away from all hustle and bustle, yet only a few minutes to town and nearby villages and amenities..Cell service and limited wifi access. Unwind! Find your inner peace and quiet. . enjoy the stars!

Out of time

Just a perfect disconnection from the world. No electricity. On the pond. Silence and beauty: exactly what was needed. Highly recommend.

Special place on Chilmark pond

This is a special home, surrounded by Chilmark pond on three sides with water views from all the windows. There’s a electric boat you can use to get to the beach in 10-15min. You can take it to Able’s Hill Association beach in 30-45 min depending on the wind - recharge the battery at the main house. Kayaks, canoes, beach chairs provided. There’s no electricity or wifi so don’t expect to work from here, but there’s lots of battery powered camp lights and candles so the evenings are pleasant. There’s a power pack charger for your phones, it can be recharged on the porch of the main house. Fridge works well and outdoor shower is hot and spacious. Generally the house, linens, kitchen utensils and crockery are very clean for the age and rustic nature of the home. There’s a portapotty outside an a compost toilet inside - remember to close the lid and bathroom door. This house is wonderful for the right person, but not for everyone. If you’re an outdoorsy camping family, you’ll absolutely love it!

Dreamy view

Gadget is a wonderful throwback to an earlier Martha's Vineyard. The beautiful, bare- bones cottage is no frills in the best sort of way--coleman lanterns for illumination, a mulching toilet in the bathroom. But for any visitor to the Vineyard who wants to feel close to nature and the sea, it is ideal. The view from the porch of Chilmark pond is gorgeous and the canoe paddle over to the beach great fun. We found the motor boat too heavy to lift, but this was fine. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the beds were comfortable. We were three people and I think the cottage would be fine for four, but not so great for more people because of the limitations of one bathroom with a mulching toilet. We were able to charge our phones no problem and enjoyed being separated from the tyranny of our computers. The cottage is without wi-fi, which again, seemed a blessing. This is a great find for anyone who loves the fun of going back to an earlier, less technologically focused time. It was about sun and sea and silence.

Probably the loveliest house I have ever rented on the vineyard. The location, surrounded by the waters of Chilmark pond, is idyllic.The cottage is cozy and a bit rustic, but very comfortably furnished.The lack of 115 volt electricity is a small issue. The solar panels easily charge phones and other devices
