Welcome to our corner of Pittsburgh. The Traveler’s Rest is an independent hotel located along the Great Allegheny Passage in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Rest is faithful to Pittsburgh’s golden era of robber barons and steelworkers while also being equipped with all the modern amenities including a full kitchen, central air, and building wide Wifi. Inspired by their own travels, Traveler’s Rest owners, Mary Beth Karabinos and Paul Kletter, opened the Rest in Spring of 2018. They’ve hosted travelers and guests from all parts of the globe until the world shut down in 2020. In the intervening year Paul and MB found a four-legged partner: Peabody. Reinvigorated, the Rest has reopened in 2021 with a new mission to provide a warm space for private stays and intimate events.
Purchasing the building in 2014, they have transformed the historic South Side building into the charming and central spot for tourists and locals alike that it is today.

OUR BUILDING
Dating back to 1883, our historic building was first home to the headquarters for A.M. Byers Wrought Iron Pipe Co. Emerging from its mills in the South Side and the surrounding region, Byers Pipe was once the world’s foremost wrought iron manufacturer and they built their offices to suit.
We have updated and renovated our building to keep the special charm and character while incorporating modern comforts. Located along the Great Allegheny Passage trail, the Traveler’s Rest is now an authentic Pittsburgh landmark which plays host to all types of visitors, travelers, and events.

The centerpiece of our venue is our Great Room and suite built with high ceiling and hand-crafted woodwork. A solid steel Pittsburg vault houses a brick arched ceiling and welcoming adornments dating from the turn of the 19th century. The space feels like a warm embrace from the Steel City’s industrial past.
