We had a great week at Villa Matera. The views are truly wonderful. You're living on a small hilltop with 360 degree views of the Basilicata region, with just a 20 minute drive to Matera's centre! The villa was in great condition upon arrival. Just a reminder that the third bedroom is either accessed via the second bedroom or via an external door (that's within the lockable entrance courtyard). The pool is beautifully situated, but note there are some rough surfaces within the pool, where tiles have come off. We were a group of adults, so it was no issue, but those with children should be a bit more careful. Also note, the groundskeeper Marcelo will be around the pool and villa on most mornings. He's very quiet and discreet, but around. For those prone to mosquitos, there were numerous doors and windows kitted out with screens, which was a big plus. But check each screen, as one or two had some holes. The host Giulio is very helpful, and very responsive. His villa guides (both the emailed version and the printed one in villa) are very good, with some nice restaurant suggestions. The immediate region is chock full of great dining venues. And day trips to Puglia are easy and not too far away (roughly 90 mins to Alberobello for instance). Lastly, a word on the winds around the villa. We visited in mid-October, and had more days of stronger-than-wished-for winds than not. We thought they were perhaps autumnal winds, but a very informed local said no, they can be year round!
