Alpine View Cabin - duplex unit A w/ queen bedroom
Summary:
Alpine View is a cozy duplex cabin located in the secluded Timberline Meadows home-owner community close to Mazama. This unit, Alpine View A, is one half of the duplex and has one queen bedroom, a queen murphy bed in the living room and a sleeping loft.
The home is well furnished and thoughtfully equipped for vacation stays. Full length decks span the front and back of the cabin and provide relaxing space in sun (back) or shade (front) all day long. This is a dog-friendly cabin, you are welcome to bring up to two pooches! Guests renting both sides of this duplex (A and B) may open the sound-proofed connecting door between the two units.
Timberline Meadows is just 2 miles from the Mazama Store, and in winter is accessed by its very own branch of the Methow Trails groomed cross country ski, fatbike and snow shoe trail. Set back from the road (SR20) across the hay fields and backing on to National Forest Timberline Meadows enjoys a quiet location with spectacular views from the tree-line.
The Space:
Alpine View A has an open plan living area, with high ceilings and a cast iron propane stove. The main living space includes a well-appointed galley kitchen, dining table seating 4, couch and easy chair. A murphy bed in the living room folds down to provide a queen bed. Also downstairs is one bedroom with a queen bed and ensuite full bathroom, and a second full bathroom. The back door and entryway are open to the queen bedroom. There is a loft, accessed by a ship’s ladder, with a fold out twin futon, and a bean bag.
This is a well-crafted cabin with good insulation and sound-proofing on the shared wall. It stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Heat is from both the gas fireplace, electric wall heaters, and a portable radiant space heater. We provide a window mounted air-conditioner unit in the bedroom in the Summer. The queen beds have new memory foam mattresses. Various comforters and throw blankets are available to keep you cozy.
The Neighborhood:
The Timberline Meadows development, located in the Upper Methow Valley, is home to seven nightly rentals, as well as several private homes. The homes are all nestled in the trees at the edge of the National Forest. The wintertime ‘John’s Way’ cross country ski, snowshoe and fat bike trails connects Timberline Meadows to Mazama and the Upper Methow trail system (permits required), making this a great ski-in / ski-out location, away from the bustle of the Mazama trailhead but close enough to ski down to the store.
It’s a 20 minute drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 21 minutes to Washington Pass and 27 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead (*drive times according to google maps), making this a great hiking base-camp for exploring the North Cascades and for beating the crowds to the trailhead during larch season.
The Mazama Store, with its great bakery and ‘a little bit of everything good’ is just a 5 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride from the cabin, and around 20 minutes by ski (depending how fast you slide and glide). Mountain bike and ski rentals are also available in Mazama.
The old west town of Winthrop is 12 1/2 miles and around 15 minutes drive down valley, with its great shopping, bakery and dining establishments; the Shafer Museum is also worth a visit to learn about the local history. Winthrop has a fun ice skating rink and is the jumping off point for Methow Rafting’s raft and float tubing on the Methow River. Winthrop’s annual calendar of events includes the Rhythm and Blues Festival, Vintage Car Rally, Memorial Day Rodeo, and Christmas At The End Of The Road (check the town’s website for details).
Getting Around:
Getting here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over highway 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Bluett Pass, or highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop. Nearest major airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (258 miles / 4.5 hrs drive).
Getting Around: it’s a 5 minute drive into Mazama. Winthrop is under 15 minutes drive / 12.5 miles south on 20. Methow Motion provides a private car service throughout the Methow valley. John's Way cross country ski, snowshoe, and fat bike trail connects the Timberline Meadows properties to Mazama and The Methow Trails system.
