Situated on a ridge top of the tallest mountain in the county this totally secluded and newly constructed cottage provides the perfect retreat from a fast paced lifestyle. Abundant wildlife and hiking with incredible views. We call this forest getaway "Rainshadow".

AMAZING! This property is truly off the beaten path but is truly beautiful upon arrival. Very relaxing environment that pulls you in and helps drive your stress in the background. Very clean as well.The host introduce themselves when you arrive and are extremely friendly, and responsive when needed them for anything. We will definitely try to return soon and recommend to others.

Very beautiful property hard to get to very curvy narrow road. Not sure how you could navigate in bad weather

Thanks for taking the time to leave us this review. We always like to think that the road in only lends to the adventure of being in the wilderness. We realize that not all folks are used to driving mountain roads but I will say that we travel this road everyday in our VW Jetta with no problems. We close this property down in the winter so there have never been any issues with weather.

This is absolutely a DIAMOND in the rough! The property was so much more beautiful and serene than the listing even gave credit for. The hosts are sweet as can be and downtown was a quick trip away even though the cabin feels entirely secluded.

This is our most favorable place! We stay overnight on our way to the coast and it beats any hotel you could find! If you are looking for seclusion and peace and quiet, this is the spot! Cant wait for our next stay!

Perfect getaway in a beautiful cabin with gorgeous views! The owners did not spare any details providing us with a wonderful stay. This is a secluded setting with all the amenities one could ask for.

Beautiful cabin in the woods. Extremely clean and well appointed. Very nice outdoor area. I would recommend getting here before dark so you can see everything the property has to offer outdoors. Would definitely stay here again.

Comfortable, clean, well supplied. Wonderful outdoor shower! An absolutely delightful stay! I highly recommend! And a drive over the mountain to Burkes Garden is worth the adventure!

A wondeful cabin in the woods with everything we needed for a quiet weekend getaway. We spent mornings and evenings on the front porch enjoying the sounds of the woods and enjoying nature.The road to the cabin was rough but easily navigated in iur SUV.

Amazingly clean, cozy, and quiet. The view and area are quiet, peaceful. The owners are wonderful people who made sure we understood everything needed for the stay and even left some snacks and tea for us. We stayed for one night but already want to stay again

Being avid backpackers,we desired to live as deep in the woods as possible. So we started homesteading this property 25 years ago and love it so much that we thought that, perhaps, others would enjoy it as much as we do. So we built another cottage on the property and look forward sharing the experience.

Convenient to the nearby town of Wytheville but totally private and secluded. To access this property you must, first, find your way up the mountain. If you're the adventurous type and don't mind a drive up a well maintained gravel road, we think you will find it worth the effort. As you start up through a typical Appalachian holler you pass a by a few local residences. But as you venture further up the road it turns into more of a National Forest type setting. We are located 1.6 miles off the main road on a private, gated property and situated on a ridge top with incredible views of the nearby mountains.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy long hikes in the adjoining Jefferson National Forest, forage for wild mushrooms, visit a Paleozoic fossil site just up the trail or explore the Appalachian Trail on the next ridge over. In the spring the rhododendron and mountain laurel are spectacular. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 30 miles away and the tallest mountain in Virginia, Mt Rogers with Grayson Highlands State Park and the famous wild ponies are also close by. You also might like to check out the Virginia Creeper Trail where you can rent a bike and spend the day coasting down an old railroad grade through spectacular scenery. The nearby town of Wytheville is only 8 miles distant and boasts two micro breweries the newly renovated Milwald Theater, several interesting museums and many eclectic eateries.
