Captain's Cove is a county getaway with private ponds for all of life's moments!

Originally built with four ponds to accommodate a Catfish Farm and Shitake Mushroom Farm - this property has been in the family for four generations. We are pleased to share this amazing property with your family to continue the tradition of enjoying life's moments. We consider this place a small piece of heaven in Iowa and hope you will too. The activities available range from fishing, swimming or kayaking, in our private ponds, bonfires, outdoor grilling, sunrise or sunset watching, hiking around the property, and so much more. The property is just minutes away from Wild Cat Den State Park, bike paths and the Muscatine River Front.

Rental rate includes a fully furnished house, full kitchen, washer and dryer, WiFi, gas grill (1 propane tank included), access to 4 private ponds (no fishing license required), 3 kayaks, adult/youth/infant life jackets, concrete patio with firepit and outdoor patio furniture, and 5+ acres of private country land access (surrounded by 40 acres of farmland). Nice place to go for our annual girl's trip. Having 2 full bathrooms was a big plus for 5 of us. We had a great time on the water with the paddleboat and kayaks!

Beautiful peaceful property. Kids loved being able to kayak for the first time ever. Lots to do! We enjoyed the board games and movies provided. Highly recommend staying here.

This was one of my favorite VRBO places to stay. Absolutely loved the privacy. We had such a great time that I already booked again for October. The fishing is excellent and I even put my tube in the far pond to float around. It was so peaceful. We only live 10 mins away so this will probably be a continuous place for us when we need to unwind away from people! Thank you, Matt and Alli for sharing your slice of heaven!

At Captain's Cove my sisters and I found a wonderful little hideaway to enjoy an extended weekend together; we didn't even need to leave the property to have a good time!

Our family & pups LOVED staying here! From exploring the property, fishing, being able to play one of the many games provided - there was tons to do! Great location close to town. Will definitely be back!

We had an amazing time at this property with family for the weekend!! Very peaceful and relaxing. The kids absolutely loved kayaking, swimming, and fishing. We caught a lot of nice bass, a catfish, and many bluegill (caught and released only). Never heard anyone say they were bored and everyone fell asleep fast each night after our fun filled days, which was a major plus. Our dogs absolutely loved being able to run off leash and get in the water. The host was very attentive and had great communication. She answered every question we had. The house was clean. There was some things that could use more upkeeping, but it didn’t stop us from having a great fun filled family weekend!!

Awesome for our family getaway weekend!! So nice having separate bedroom and bathroom in the roomy lower floor game/family room for ol’ Nana and Grandad . Great living room- kitchen area and 2 nice bedrooms and bathroom on main floor as well. Kids LOVED their cool bedroom. Outdoor space was fantastic with kayaks, a paddle boat and life jackets for all sized kiddos. We grilled out, had a fire with s’mores, went for walks around the ponds, fished and had a rousing kickball game in the yard! Excellent accommodations and great communication with friendly host. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again!

Great spot over the holidays

Neat little cabin with plenty of space. We were all able to sleep in our own beds while we were in the are for Christmas. The fish tank was a hit with my kiddos.

Beyond outstanding! Every single thing was thought of, from labeled light switches, to a s’mores station, beautifully maintained property and so clean! Also, the proximity to Wildcat State Park was only 8minutes away and we could not believe the amazing hiking offered! We cannot wait to return!!!

This place needs like a 8 star review. My family has such a wonderful time. We went kayaking, paddle boating we fished the whole time. We did throw back 95% of the fish so they are there for you to catch. Only kept a few catfish and a few bluegill. It was very family friendly. There was a game room that we didn’t use because we were outside the whole time. We had bonfires, and cookouts. It was just so much fun and so relaxing we will definitely be back if we head that way. I think our dog even had the best time of his life he’s never got to run so much and play so much outside. He’s 12 years old and I haven’t seen him move around like that in a long time. The hosts were wonderful answering questions immediately. We checked out a lot of thrift stores in town which that was also fun. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your little slice of heaven.

Perfect location and property for our family of eight!

Captain's Cove was the perfect property for our family of eight. The home itself was clean and tidy and offered all the cozy comforts of home while still giving us space to spread out when needed. The outdoor amenities of the ponds for fishing and kayaking were great as well. I would highly recommend Captain's Cove to anyone visiting the Muscatine area.

Clean, quiet, and a very nice place for a dog (leashed in our case). I loved the fact that it was difficult to hear highway sounds, music being played, or noisy people....we heard and saw deer, beavers, a couple of grebes and some geese. We also heard coyotes and owls when we sat outside by the table fire.The weather was colder that we would have liked, but house was nice and cozy.We are seriously considering returning during warmer weather to enjoy the ponds more between kayaking and fishing when the weather is good.

Family vacation

We loved everything about this property! The host was great with communication and I loved all the little extra touches in the house. It’s a little harder to find things for teenagers to do but ours had a great time on the Kayak’s, pedal boat, game room and the shuffle board. Our family and dogs had so much fun during our stay and we would love to stay again!
