Mid-Winter Michigander's retreat

what a beautiful site! The cabin is very spacious and accommodated our large party of 12 very easily. The furnishings and craftsmanship were amazing. Best of all, we were all able to gather in basement area and at the huge table for all meals.

Lovely cabin, perfect for family gatherings.

Our family loved staying in this gorgeous cabin while visiting for a wedding nearby. We could tell that a lot of thought and care has been put into creating a space for families to gather and create memories together. We’re already planning our next trip!

Group of friends to hang out in one location.

Worked out great. size was what was promised. very clean and accommodated all of us easily. Certainly will recommend for future family and friends that visit the area.

My daughter’s 21 birthday party

I was looking for a nice peaceful place for my daughter’s 21 birthday, a place that we can relax and enjoy, a place that’s nice and clean. When I saw the pictures of this cabin l was like, this is exactly what I’m looking for. This cabin is exactly like the pictures are shown on the website, nice, clean, beautifully decorated, lots of privacy, beautiful scenery, and so relaxing. I recommend this cabin!

Rustic Roots for the win!

My group was traveling to the area for a Notre Dame football game, and we were excited about our stay at this unique property. All of us had a great experience. The host was awesome and responded quickly to all of our questions. It was easy to see that this place is well taken care of and that you are in good hands. We truly admired the craftsmanship of this log cabin and the beautiful landscaping. I also love the story of the cabin too, what a legacy!

Property was AMAZING!Owner so responsive, experience was fabulous, definitely a must if you are anywhere near Shipshewana! Five stars is not enough! Love, Love, Love this property! The extra touches provided by the owner were just wonderful, never had a better VRBO stay! This is how all VRBOs should be!

Wonderful

Our family thoroughly enjoyed this cabin. It was clean, spacious, and full of activities for everyone to enjoy. The preteen/teen boys especially loved the basketball court. Our family was able spend time together and create memories in a beautiful setting that was perfect for everyone from infant through grandma and grandpa. Our only wish was that we had booked a longer stay. If we are in the area again, we would love to book this cabin again.

Friends get together

What a beautiful cabin. There wasn’t anything that you would need while on vacation. It has everything! Quiet and very peaceful. We were so impressed with the beauty and cleanliness. Definitely would rent again when back in Indiana. I would give this a much higher rating of a 5. Just can’t say enough good about this rental property!!

I grew up locally in Middlebury on a dairy farm not far from Rustic Roots. I enjoy meeting new people, being a mom and designing and creating art of all kinds.

I co-host this property with my parents, who you may encounter during your stay. It has been a fun adventure for us to begin this hosting journey together.

Rustic Roots is located on a 70 acre property that includes farmland, woodlands and wetlands that are all protected by a conservation easement with the Wood Land Lakes Land Trust. Sitting out on the porch and enjoying the beautiful scenery is one of my favorite places to relax and unwind.

The cabin is a treasured family home. It's was built by my grandparents for the express purpose of entertaining family and friends. People all over the world have enjoyed its welcoming atmosphere, but it's significance is particularly meaningful to our extended family as it has been our go-to gathering place for over 30 years. We hope that everyone who visits the cabin will feel the invitation to rest, relax and enjoy their time here.

Please note, one of our host couples lives in a separate house on the property. The two houses share a driveway, so it is not uncommon to bump into the "neighbor" during your stay. If you see them around, they will likely wave and say hello. If you want to chat, they will be happy to accommodate. However, they are also happy to give you complete privacy if that is your desire.
