This home in Gion is superb. It is beautifully restored with a traditional style and all modern comforts and conveniences. It is spacious, well-located, and quiet. Just blocks from the crowds and attractions of Kyoto, you will enjoy serenity and quiet.In all my years of using VRBO (many, many), Naoko and Andy are the best communicators i have every experienced. Responsive, clear, helpful, and flexible.Be sure to try the restaurants they recommend. (check nights they are open and Kuzushi Kotowari requires reservations.)I cannot imagine that anyone would not love the experience of staying in this home.Joanna (Oakland, California)

This is an ideal place for those who want more space than a hotel and want to come away feeling like they have actually stayed in Japan. Location great. Property great. Hope to stay there again. (This was our second visit).

Naoko and Andew's place was an incredible home base for our 7 days in Kyoto. The location was fantastic, and the home was beautifully resorted with any comfort you'd need. Naoko's bespoke recommendations made the trip even more amazing. I'd recommend the machiya to anyone visiting Kyoto!

We could not have asked for more during our stay in Kyoto! Possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. The kitchen was well equipped, the location was ideal, and the host gave us a number of really excellent recommendations. We hope to return one day!!

Amazing property and location!

Truly a great stay with accommodating owners. Really amazing location and everything you need with an authentic Japanese stay/experience. Climate controlled, modern toilets, all the modern amenities with authentic charm.

Delight in Gion

Machiya Momiji was a delight to back to after the crowds of Kyoto. We loved our stay there and it’s a great area to step out and explore

We had a wonderful stay in this well located machiya. Our host Yaoko provided great information on restaurants and activities.

Beautiful house in a wonderful location.

Stayed for a week with my family and we loved the place. It was very comfortable for 4 adults. Beds and pillows were the best we had in all our stay in Japan. Location was excellent with easy walk to bus and subway. Lots of great restaurants in walking distance. Would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful home, great location.

Loved staying here. Great home in a great location. If we were not walking somewhere, taxis were available within a block walk. We packed a lot in 5 days and used host many recommended spots for eating and touring.

Traditional Japanese lodging in a convenient location

Perfect for our family of four. A traditional house with the basics provided, great location for visiting the sites on the Eastern side of Kyoto and easy walk into the city

Incredible stay! Historic home. Gorgeous decor. The most comfortable beds. Close to everything. We walked everywhere. 10/10!! Hosts were the most accommodating with our luggage, early check in etc.

We really enjoyed our stay at this traditional Japanese house. It was cosy, quiet and full of charm. The rooms were clean and tidy, the duvets were very fluffy (although we could have done with an extra frying pan ). The Metro station was a short walk away and there were a few convenience stores in the vicinity. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to experience the real Japan with modern amenities.

Great location with an attentive host

Our stay at Naoko and Andy’s Machiya was perfect. We were with our 3 kids and the place made our travels so much easier as we could come back to a place that felt like home. The location is central and easy to walk to places from. There are great cafes and restaurants near by and Naoko and Andy were nothing but the perfect hosts - so attentive to every question. Thanks again guys!
