Cozy 2-bedroom cottage in Pointe au Baril
The Briar Patch Cottage is a lakeside property on the Georgian Bay with beautiful panoramic views.
The cottage is central, but ideally located for wilderness exploration. A quick .5-mile boat ride to the Ojibway Club and other amenities, and a mile in the other direction from great picnic spots with scenic kayaking and great fishing along the way! The cottage has beautiful views facing the water and dramatic rock islands and the classic arched pines of the Georgian Bay! Its rear is tucked into the woods, dampening sound and blanketing the ground with soft pine-needles.
The cottage sleeps four(4), with a living room (lake view) furnished with a pull-out couch, chairs, and a working fireplace. The large master bedroom (lake view) has a queen bed with a new mattress, linens, and pillows. A separate dining room (lake view) has a large table and eight(8) chairs. The kitchen has pots, pans, and dishes and has a gas stove, solar fridge, and running water. A bunk room with two(2) twin beds with new mattresses and pillows.** Bathroom has a flush toilet, hand wash sink, and interior shower. There is also an attached deck (lake view) with bench seating, as well as chairs and tables. The layout provides lots of space for privacy and entertaining.
** Please note this bedroom is less private, with a curtain for a door and a wall that doesn't quite reach the ceiling - I.E. not a lot of noise proofing! While we do put adults in there, unless you are ready to roll with the lack of privacy, it makes for a better kid or occasional guest room!

What We Love About Our Cottage - We love that our cottage feels like escaping the “real world”! We have upgraded with a few modern conveniences: a solar fridge, a place to charge phones, and a shower and toilet on septic - but the cottage itself still feels like stepping out of the modern world. We have a porch overlooking Ugo-Igo channel, where we sit and enjoy coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The dining room feels halfway between a screened-in porch and a room. It's perfect for late night candle-lit dinners laughing with friends, a rainy day board game, and a lazy brunch. The kitchen is small but serviceable - we are all dedicated chefs and it has hosted many an elaborate feast. We like turning off our phones and relying on the cookbooks (tucked into the bookcase) to get our recipes together. The living room stays empty much of the day as we read outside or explore, but at night you can light the fireplace and enjoy cozy chats, pull out a puzzle or read in the coveted blue armchair. On stormy days, the thunder is dramatic echoing across the water, the fireplace is warm and the dining room gives you dramatic views while the forest over you keeps the storm from feeling...a little TOO dramatic. As this has been our family's vacation home for decades it is stocked with some thoughtful amenities. There are puzzles and games for those indoor days, cooking tools to whip up your daily feasts, and reference books to learn about that bird perched outside the window. We hope it feels like home and not just like a rental! On warm summer days, we often stay outside - reading on the dock, deck or rocks, or getting more active. Swimming from the cottage is easy - in fact, we swim daily as we prefer to bathe in the bay off our dock (with biodegradable soap of course!). There are two easy swims out our front door with little islands to explore. There is great fishing right out the backchannel, and short and long boat rides to enjoy. We are happy to suggest our favorite treks, jumping spots (if you’re feeling adventurous!) and picnic islands, and as you can see there is a lot of Crown Land to explore in all directions:

We think the property is pretty special, and we think you will too!
