We enjoyed the incredible cast network of trails that were groomed and mowedthe Golf Carts are a must if you really want to get around huge property to explore We also loved the sign post marking off different "private hideaways" like the Monarch Meadow and cherry lane etc

The property was well maintained. It was a great place to explore, and the swimming was great. There weren't many bugs and that was amazing. The screen porch was beautiful. Everyone was comfortable sleeping. We would definitely come here again.

This place was amazing, we had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the private lake on the rented pontoon. The fishing was a little slow, but had a good time watching the otters play. The trails were fun, the deer and horseflies were not. The house was fully stocked, the screened in porch was great, we were out all the time, with hardly any bugs. We used the bunkhouse as the house only sleeps 6, with foutons on the screened in porch. Plenty of room there, with 4 queen beds. The beach area is small and surrounded by lily pads, but was great for our 6 and 2yr old grandchildren. The hit tub was a nice touch especially to sit and watch the lake. Overall wonderful stay and would definitely go back.

This was a wonderful place for our three-generation family to enjoy time together! Plenty of space to break into smaller groups for various activities, as well as being all together for meals and fun.

The sandy beach area with a gradual lead into the lake was great for our grandkids. It is a nice, quiet property. Be sure to bring bug spray!

I just wanted to say this was the perfect house to have my family vacation! The house was wonderful and to be able to just walk out the back to go to the beach was so perfect! We spent so much time hanging at the beach and being able to have a fire right there at night was the perfect way to end each night.My kids and grandchildren all had a wonderful time here. We really enjoyed walking the trails and going on the kayaks and pontoon. Linda and Kelly were so nice to answer all my questions so quickly and were so easy to work with.

We held our wedding here. It was absolutely perfect and everything we wanted. The beauty of the place is unexplainable. Everything was well stocked and tons of fridge space. The covered porch was fantastic, we actually held the reception in there vs being out with the mosquitoes. Definitely worth every penny.

Family trip

Our stay at Bruce was amazing. Our hosts Were amazing and quickly getting back to all of our questions and super helpful. The place was just as it was presented the wraparound porch that was screened in was perfect when the day was rainy as you still felt, you were in the Northwoods and outside.

Perfect Family Getaway

This is our second time staying here and it did not disappoint. We love having room for the whole family and really enjoy how secluded and private it is. There is so much to do and space for everyone. The screened-in porch is really the highlight of the house and we all spent so much time there. Can't wait to come back!

Peaceful lake getaway

Our extended family had a great time at this property. The house and lake are very private and the trails are well maintained. The children loved the sandy beach, the paddle boards and the swimming dock! The screened porch is the highlight of the house and is a great place for a large group to gather for dinner. We enjoyed picking wild raspberries and making crepes on the large cooktop!

So Beautiful!

Our stay was fabulous! We basically LIVED in the screened-in wrap around porch the whole weekend snuggled up to the fire, enjoyed a day on the pontoon and anchored to the floating raft on the lake, relaxed in the hot tub, cooked amazing meals, and really made the most out of everything the retreat property had to offer. Thanks for being so accommodating and we’d love to return!

A great family gathering

A great location for a family gathering. Very spacious and roomy. The screened in wrap around porch provided a perfect space for a rainy day of activities. Most rentals advertise as fully furnished/equipped, but this place far exceeded expectations. Everything from kitchen utensils to storage/refrigeration to recreational equipment. It was there in abundance. Had a few minor issues, but nothing that would keep us from recommending or returning for another family vacation.

First time someone was there to check us in, which felt weird, but the guy was super awesome and did it quickly because there's a little bit of a bit to learn about the place. You need to rent the pontoon boat in order to swim since it's all lily pads at the shore, but the floating raft is great in the middle of the lake and it's super deep. The two buildings are basic cabin-mansions and high luxury. The caretakers are wonderful. We locked ourselves out and they were over right away. We wanted to rent the golf carts (highly recommend) and they were over right away. We were kind of needy and they were SO accomodating.

Family reunion

It was everything we wanted. Best kitchen ever and we are caterers! Wrap around, screened in porch was a game changer with all the mosquitos. Swimming dock with canoes and kayaks to shuttle everyone back and forth was too much fun. Four families occupied the space and there was plenty of room to be together and out of each other's way.

We definitely loved the big cabin and screened in porch and had a good time. However, if we would have been staying during a really hot week, we would have been pretty upset because we planned the bunkhouse to be used for the older kids and the air conditioning did NOT work. It ran but never cooled it down even a little. Thankfully, the kids could open the window at night and get some fresh air so they didn’t totally die up there, but there must’ve been a hole in a screen or something because that created pretty bad bug issues for them if the lights were on. It was so hot during the day that there’s no way the kids could even be over there for any amount of time so that was kind of a bummer.We decided to use the boat for an extra charge. After finding out the price, I told the caretaker that we would take it the whole time. I later found out that once you commit to using the boat for a day if you decide not to use it, they’re gonna charge you anyway. That was a little irritating because there was a day that it rained and we didn’t use the boat and obviously it would be understandable that we didn’t use it but in the end when we were billed, we actually weren’t billed for that day so that host ended up, not charging us for that even though we were told that we would have to pay for it. So that was good. The pontoon gets the job done, but it’s not very taken care of and my dad had to do a little tinkering to get it to work in the first place. Not updated but we didn’t mind.

Family Time

Very relaxing. Mosquitoes were bad but having the massive screened in porch helped us still enjoy the view. Kids enjoyed playing in the porch. Saw lots of wildlife. Trails are nice but again mosquitoes prevented us from ising them much for walking them. We did tide our bikes on them one day but anytime you stopped you were swatting mosquitoes.

Amazing House & Property but

We had a wonderful time! Really enjoyed the hiking trails and the golf cart rental was something we used a lot. The bunk house was really nice to have for the kids. The house is a beautiful, log home, it is so private and very relaxing. Perfect to spend time with family. The downside was the mattresses, the master bedroom’s was old and super soft, bedding seemed old, there was no bed frame just box spring & mattress on the floor. The main floor bedroom also had a super soft uncomfortable mattress. Best bed was in the basement bedroom. Because of this we left 1 night early since we weren’t getting good sleep. The house was clean but the 3 season porch very dusty and spiderwebs. I would go back again, if only they got new mattresses.

The Good: The cabin and surrounding area were gorgeous. The onsite manager was fantastic, he was quick to respond to the issues we had. The Bad: The cleaning was fair. Spiderwebs and lots of dust. Supplies were not restocked and we had to call the manager to resupply. The outdoor furniture was filthy, firepit didn't work & the bunk house was filled with bugs. We rented the bunk house but didn't actually stay in it because of the bugs. The host really needs to post photos of the bunk house. It is a long dark room over the garage. Beds and bedding are dated and didn't appear that the comforters had been cleaned in sometime.The owner of the property had terrible communication. I was coming with several elderly people and had lots of questions. She either took days to respond or didn't respond at all. And when she did respond, she was snarky. Asked about basic supplies...oil, shampoo, soap, coffee, etc and was told there was none so I bought everything. There was tons of coffee & tea, every shower had toiletries and there was oil and spices galore. It was clear that she had not been to the property in sometime. Other main issue was TV/Cable. There was a direct TV remote but only info stations were available. The TV in the living room was only about 19in. I am a VRBO host and I was very disappointed in this host and the condition of such a beautiful property. For the price of the property being almost double anything else in the area, there should be more attention to detail.

We had a lovely time with family! Beautiful location. The lake was smaller than expected and lacked any wildlife, like ducks, loons, turtles etc, which seemed odd but we had a lovely time canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding!! The floating dock was a great place to sit and swim from. We didn’t do much trail hiking because the mosquitoes and flies were just too much for us. Just a very bad year and can’t be helped. At the cabin they were fine but the screen porch and lake is where we spent most of our time! The cabin itself is very nice but could use a deep clean. The screen porch furniture cushions are very stained but comfortable. The outdoor lounge chairs are either broken, twisted and unusable or close to it. There is everything you need to cook with spices, oil and such leftover from previous guests. Everything though could use a going through and reorganization. The oven and stove top pilot lights kept going out and we needed to go purchase matches for it and to start the grill. There is a place designated for lighters but none were there. Yes, the upstairs bed is on the floor, no bed frame which seems odd and would seem more upscale with one, but it didn’t bother us. The beds and sheets were clean and comfortable. Again we had a lovely time! The place is nice but with the things I mentioned addressed it could be fantastic and more on par with the price we paid.

It was nice

Listing is misleading in some respects. Whole house sound system? Yes, there are speakers, but no sound system, and no CDs. BYOD if you want tunes, WiFi works well in the house, not so much on the porch. TV on every floor, as well as DVD players (huge selection), and DirectTV. Flat top in the kitchen was great, exhaust fan is woefully inadequate. Ice maker in the main floor freezer didn't work, the one on the lower level works well. Kitchen is well equipped. Maybe too well, not much space for pantry items if you have a group and plan on cooking every day. Upstairs bed was horrible, I chose to sleep on a futon on the porch for a few nights, quite comfortable when the overnight temps are in the 50s, low 60s. Mosquitos are a fact of life in WI. Honestly, the worst I've ever experienced. Granted it's been a very rainy summer, but there's a lot of man-made standing water right around the house, including a kiddie pool behind the bunk house that was overflowing. The trails are wide and nicely mowed, have long sleeves, pants, and bug spray if you want to hike around. Not a dual head shower upstairs, the control was replaced at some time with a single. There are fish, which we didn't expect. Brought a couple of ultralight rods set up for panfish; smallmouth bass on 2 lb test was great fun. Also caught some bluegills and pumpkinseeds. Were told there are northern out in the deeper water. Honestly, not worth it for the price. Possibly if the pontoon was included for the week.
