Barn House by the shore in South Iceland - with hot tub

A unique modern barn house in the small village Stokkseyri on the south-coast of Iceland. The house has great views to the ocean and the lava coastline. The house is fully equipped and tastefully decorated. An outdoor wood geothermal hot tub and quality beds will also help to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

The house is only a 45 min drive from Reykjavik and well situated to explore many of the sights in the south.

The two floor house (105 m2) was built in 2010. It has three bedrooms, bathroom w/ shower, living room w/balcony and an open kitchen. Availability for 4 guests.

Please be aware that between the two floors is quite steep stairs that can be problematic for elderly people or those who are not in good shape.

The kitchen is fully equipped and guests are welcome to use spices, oils, flour and other basics for cooking.

The house exterior is clad with weathered Siberian larch and the interior walls with branch-less plywood. When building this house the aim was to have it environmentally friendly, e.g. by carefully selecting all materials used. The house has geothermal floor heating.

Fantastic Seaside Stay

We went in winter time and loved the view from the house, shelling the beach, a soak in the hot tub with kids. It was a great midpoint between Reykjavík and Vik for all of your Southern Iceland / Golden Circle adventures. Would absolutely recommend!

Amazing property

Our family of 4 was very happy with our stay at this property! It is located in a quaint little town on the southwest coast and conveniently located close to the Golden Circle, close enough to the airport and Reykjavic, and 15 minutes to nearby Selfoss, which is a bigger town with a fine selection of restaurants to start and end your day at. The property owners are incredibly thoughtful, hospitable, with excellent communication. Start to finish, we could not have picked a better place to stay during our Iceland trip. The kitchen was well furnished, the beds and sheets were comfy, the view from the upper deck is amazing, the hot tub out back is welcoming and relaxing, and heated floors are a very welcome luxury! We loved having a washer and dryer and plenty of clean towels. There is a somewhat steep ladder that provides access to the upper deck. This was not a problem for us, but anyone with mobility issues, will need to consider this aspect. Overall, this is an OUTSTANDING property for your Iceland visit.

Relaxing with Ocean Views

My husband and I were thrilled with our stay at the Barn House. The decor was inviting and comfortable and the hot tub was the perfect way to end the day with a view of the night skies. The owner communicated effectively, ensuring we had everything we needed.

Beautiful comfortable home with view of the ocean and drivable to many local sights. We were close to dark sky’s to even catch a glimpse of the northern lights!

Beautiful home with everything we needed

The barn house was a peaceful base camp for exploring the south coast. We enjoyed the hot tub. The beds and bedding were comfortable. The most well stocked property I have ever stayed at with cooking supplies, laundry, and bathrobes. The large window skylights, lighting, and infloor heating created a cozy place for our family to enjoy. Highly recommend!

A fabulous property and location!!

We visited Iceland for 2 weeks and this property was our favorite! The view of the ocean from the top floor was amazing! The filled hot tub was quite enjoyable. We have stayed at VRBO's all over the world and your property was stocked with everything you could possibly need. Kudos to you for this! Highly recommend this property!!

Loved it!

, the amenities and the location. Comfortable modern design with a toasty oceanside hot tub. Easy drive north to sites or east to Vik. Definitely walk down to the lobster house for dinner, go hungry so you can finish the 3 course dinner. Definitely won’t forget this part of our vacation!

Lovely getaway.

Lovely property by the sea, beautiful vista. Just as described. Would not take young children or elderly due to steepness of internal staircase but perfect for our family. Lovely, peaceful and relaxing and the geothermal hot tub was fabulous. Information provided by the hosts was also very helpful.

Wonderful base for seeing Iceland

We spent a full week at the Barn House, using it as a base from which to see much of Iceland. It was fantastic. Easily accessible to Reykjavik, the Golden Circle and much of the South Coast. We even got lucky and saw the aurora borealis one night. The house is cozy, the hot tub amazing and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen is small but contains everything you need. Highly recommend.

We are incredibly grateful to our host for going above and beyond during our stay. With the yellow and orange weather warnings on our first few days of the stay in Iceland, we were quite stressed and unsure of what to do—but Kristinn kindly offered us a safe and comfortable place to stay, which meant so much to us. The staff (Adam) was also on site at another property was helpful and stayed up late to help us since we arrived late on the first night. Their advice throughout was thoughtful and reassuring, helping us make the right decisions during a difficult weather situation. On top of that, the home was absolutely spotless—truly perfect for someone OCD like me who really appreciates a clean, well-maintained space!Thank you again for your kindness, generosity, and care. We couldn’t have asked for a better host and would highly recommend staying here. It is because of the host and staff, that makes Iceland extra special to us!

Luxury in remote Iceland

This unique building has very high quality furniture, bedding, and towels. Even robes are provided. The hot tub in the back yard is a highlight. Lots of windows let in the epic Icelandic landscape. When the wind pics up you feel cozy and comfortable with every convenience. There is a full sized washer AND dryer (great for families). The gas station is a 10 minute walk away and has all the basic groceries you need along with a small diner. If you are in the area, this is a great place to stay.

Unique and beautifully decorated barn house!

We enjoyed the vistas (and the hot tub) from this fully stocked beach house. Note that the creative nautical-style double-step staircase is treacherous for anyone with limited mobility and makes hauling suitcases upstairs a bit of a challenge. The European oven also features a dishwasher (!) but no microwave.It is a great location for exploring the south coast of Iceland.

Isolated but comfortable

The home was well furnished and very comfortable but extremely isolated [ one hour from Reykjavik]. There wasn't even an open coffee house near by. We could not get the oven to work and the smoke alarms went off during our stay requiring us to remove each alarm battery. I would recommend this property if you really want to get away from it all!

We are happy to hear that you found our home well furnished and very comfortable. But at the same time we are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay more than this. - Like in every home, smoke alarms can go off, sometimes just because of the toaster or when cooking bacon. You were clever removing the batteries. - The oven is quite simple to operate, but in case guests are having problems with it, there are instructions in the booklet at the house. We urge our guests to get in touch if something comes up, so that a problem like this can be solved right away. - The house is in a very small town (population of 450 people), but only a 15 km away for the largest town on the south coast (Selfoss) and well situated to explore all the sights in the south. When a booking is confirmed we send all guests a detailed welcome letter (18p) with information about the house, the town, surroundings, sights, restaurants, coffeehouses and a lot more in the area. So, it should be of no surprise for guests that there is not much going on in this little town (it has one of the country's best langoustine restaurant though). The barn house is definitely an option for guests who want to get a way from it all and stay in a unique house with a beautiful ocean view.

Dreamy ocean-front rental in Iceland

This is a very charming rental--well known as the "barn house" and obviously owned by a highly qualified interior designer. It is picture perfect with warm lighting and feels so cozy at night. The house is stocked with everything needed for a stay, including the kitchen, laundry facilities, gorgeous bathroom, ideal hot tub setting with ocean views, binoculars (nice touch!) and robes/slippers (small but appreciated), along with ample towels. Owner provides useful information for the area, including a nice referral to two restaurants that we loved (Rauða Húsið and Fjöruborðið Restaurant). We would go back in a heartbeat!

Fantastic views of the ocean, the stars and the Northern lights!!!!

Upon arrival at the Barn House, we were blown away by the uniqueness, the attention to detail, the interior design and the place overall. We loved the setup, enjoyed looking up at the stars while soaking in the hot tub, waking up to the views of the ocean and the heated floors were such a treat! Centrally located between Reykavik, The Golden Circle and the black sand beaches in Vik on the southern coast. It truly was a magical trip and Kristinn was really great and responsive when we thought we left a phone at the house after departing! Thank you Iceland for the beautiful memories that we will all carry with us for a lifetime! Would highly recommend staying at this one of a kind property!!

Well designed, well appointed, quiet home on the coast

We really loved hanging out at the Barn House. Very relaxing and lovely home with comfortable beds. We loved the view from the deck upstairs, the tiny kitchen, and its excellent storage. It had everything we needed! Stokkseyri is a small, quiet village but there was plenty to explore.It served us well as a home base for day trips to Golden Circle sites, the Reykjadalur thermal river, horseback riding, and the Westman Islands. But we could've easily spent a relaxing few days just exploring the coast, playing with the neighborhood cats, and locally meandering through Stokkseyri and its neighboring towns. Intriguing museums and historic sites. The local restaurants were really good. We LOVED Fjorubordid.

Not great but not horrible

The place was clean and in a good location for seeing some popular destinations. It has a beautiful ocean view from the top level. A few things we didn’t like were no microwave paired with a very small kitchen/oven. The stairs to get to the main seating level, kitchen and one bedroom were awful. Steep and not a traditional staircase. You had to step wide to have footing. If you’re not in shape or good health this could be an issue.

Just perfect

My husband & I just stayed with our teen twins at the barn house. Just perfect! From the view, to the comforts, to the friendly neighbor & backyard, we’d stay again. Being able to walk along the sea, and take a hot tub dip each night, was amazing. The little village was having a community festival, and its proximity to Selfoss and the southern coast plus golden circle was great. One night, we came back after hiking and made a great lamb dinner and enjoyed the peace. And thank you to the hosts for being so great with communicating. Since coming home, we’ve already have a ton of friends ask where we stayed. Til another time!

A beautiful place to spend the final days of our Iceland trip. The setting is stunning, with amazing views and thoughtfully designed decor that perfectly suits the surroundings.As others have mentioned, the ladder-style stairs can be a bit inconvenient, but they add to the character of the property and certainly wouldn’t stop us from staying here again. The spacious bathroom felt like a spa retreat, with heated floors, plush bathrobes, and plenty of room for your belongings on the large counter.Guests should note that the layout may not be ideal for those with limited mobility. The bathroom is on the main level, while the primary living space, kitchen, and master bedroom are located upstairs via the ladder stairs. Two additional bedrooms are on the lower level.The location is excellent, close enough to drive into Selfoss for groceries and restaurants, while still feeling peaceful and secluded. We also appreciated being within 30 minutes of both the Reykjadalur hot spring hike and Kerið Crater, two highlights of our trip.
