Unique accomodation in a great location!

Wish we could have stayed longer in this nicely decorated rail car. Within a few minutes walk of restaurants and the main street shopping area, it couldnt be more convenient. We'll stay here again!

Weekend getaway

Unique and fun place to stay! My husband and I stayed here for a weekend in Fredericksburg. Very comfortable and plenty of room for two people. Close to downtown - great location. Would definitely recommend as a fun alternative to a run of the mill hotel!

Turn Back Time

If you're looking for a historical experience this is it! A nice stay in a train car with fun USA and Texas history. Just a 5 -10 min walk to Main Street with lots of shopping and food, plus a 10 minute walk to the National WWII Pacific Museum.

Once in a lifetime experience

What a nolgastic place to stay at! So much history inside the train. Truly enjoyed reading the book “Theodore Roosevelt’s Letters to His Children”! Located walking distance to all the shops on Main Street. Couldn’t have picked a better place stay at for our 15th wedding anniversary.

Hospitality and history close to everything!

Really a lovely little place to stay if you're wanting to experience some rich Texas history, with the added benefit of being close to Main Street and many other cool places in Fredericksburg. We loved learning the long, interesting history of the Pullman car. Also loved the many amenities and treats from the host. The only thing missing was the swaying of the car back and forth on the tracks!

The train was wonderful and very historic. We enjoyed looking through the antiques Fredrickicsburg is a great town and lots to do and great food. I recommend the Cabernet Grill on highway 16. The food was outstanding The only thing is that this is advertised as a B&B. And it is a bed but no breakfast. They did have a coffee pot but that was it

Wonderful getaway!

I stayed in the adorable rail car for two weekend nights with my 8 year old daughter for a mother-daughter getaway to Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock. What an unforgettable trip! My daughter loved the rail car with all of its whimsical details. The bed was incredibly comfortable and it was very quiet and safe in the area. We walked almost everywhere and loved coming home after dinner to the sound of birds and the sunset. The hosts were extremely courteous, organized, and responsive to our needs. I cannot recommend this VRBO more enthusiastically!

Cool factor was off the charts

I reserved this for a surprise weekend for my fiancé. I wouldn't tell her where we were staying despite her asking many times. Then when we drove up she had this strange look on her face like "We are staying on a train?" We then walked in and she just couldn't stop saying how cool this was. It was a very unique experience. We entered the room to a personal welcome from the owner along with a gift. There was so much history and nostalgia in the car you could spend a great deal of time just looking at the artifacts as if you were in a museum. It was like sleeping in a museum. The queen bed was very comfortable. The butler's kitchen was just right for mixing drinks, making coffee, etc. This was a very unique and interesting place to stay and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for something outside the norm. It is an experience we will remember forever. One note is this property is not handicap-accessible and I would not recommend for such.

Little things mean a lot...

We were so excited about this historic place to stay for our Anniversary. It was definitely different and as soon as we figured out the layout, we tried to settle in...the history was evident with the books, letters & photographs and memorabilia of Teddy Roosevelt. Hmmm...then we saw several light bulbswere burned out right where we wanted them, like the bathroom area and the night table. Also, the closets were a mess with broken rods and other broken things on the floor of one closet. We just used the door hooks to hang up clothes . Nice wooden hangers were also piled on the floor of the closets. ??? Luggage racks would be nice or a bench at the foot of the bed. The bathmats needed refreshing....they felt dirty. The galley kitchen was fine and there is a small refrigerator and a Keurig coffee maker and a few dishes and utensils. It was very quiet and felt safe at the edge of town. I hope the maintenance will improve for future visitors. We did enjoy the novelty of narrow corridors and the charming little game/ breakfast room and the history behind the Pullman car😊 Thank you so much.

Unique Historical Stay - Great Couple Retreat

Really unique stay with detailed focused to history. Great attention to detail on decor elements, including upholstery, furniture, books and more. Pros: This is a phenomenal getaway for a couple. Two bathrooms, two bathing areas (although they are tight), and two dressing areas. Two work areas for those that are working remotely right now where each can have privacy to focus. This is a genuine Pullman train so the history, nostalgia (and gentle wear) is part of the charm, so be aware that the size and dimensions are over a century old. Bed is incredibly soft, with strong AC (takes awhile for it cool the car in the midday heat but was perfectly cool in the evening) and a standup fan. Cons: Galley is severely limited, offering only a small fridge, sink, microwave and glasses/flatware/cutlery. This is more than enough to enjoy small bites, leftovers, morning coffee/tea and wine, but you cannot cook or meal prep here, and there isn't a grill. Plan to eat out for most/all meals, which is somewhat of a challenge due to fluctuating closures and restrictions. Wifi is offered, but it is a personal hotspot device that has limited monthly usage and will throttle down when it reaches its threshold. Also isn't strong enough to reach both work spaces. This was a "pro" for us as we wanted to unplug - but for remote workers reliant on video chat - this may be an issue.

Unusual combination of romance and history.

Was looking for something different to celebrate our 42nd anniversary. We travel a good bit in and out of the US, often by train, but had never stayed in a private train car before. We very much enjoyed the experience and won't hesitate to do it again. Private and great for romantic getaways. The 6666 was built for a famous North Texan in 1894 and is full of antiques and Teddy Roosevelt memorabilia from that period. Very comfortable queen bed and lounging area. Everything is a bit tight by modern standards but that's just part of the experience. Huge clawfoot tub in one bathroom and small shower with great water pressure in the other. Tiny galley on the far end with Keurig, microwave and small refrigerator to hold the wine and desserts you'll bring back from Main Street. Located across Barron Creek about 3 or 4 blocks from Main Street in a light industrial area (~7 minute walk). There's also a HEB grocery 2 blocks away for essentials. Big parking area. Some traffic noise but nothing intrusive. By a neat twist of fate, our favorite sauces and condiment maker, Fischer & Wieser, owns the 6666 and it's right by their facility. We had no idea! We also received two large gift certificates to use in their store on Main Street or the Peach Haus and came home with a backseat full of different sauces and such. Very friendly people and we will definitely be back in the next year or two! Would I recommend this vacation rental to my best friend? Yes.

Fun and unique experience

This was a very fun and unique way to stay in Fredericksburg! The interior was way cooler than I was expecting, and the large soaking tub was amazing. Everything felt clean and at the same time very historical. The bed was very comfortable which was a nice surprise. They also gave us 3 of their delicious sauces and a 25 dollar gift card we used to buy some more of their stuff. Immediate location is a little industrial, so it feels a bit creepy being in this old train in that area. But it is a very fast walk/drive to HEB, Otto's, Main Street, Sunset Grille and other good places. I would definitely recommend trying it once if you are into history (lots of cool info on the train and owning family) or just like trying new things. My only complaint was that the Keurig in the kitchen was full of sediment that I could not get rid of. But oh well, there are WAY better places to get morning coffee in Fredericksburg. And a side note, the train is not well insulated and it got very cold at night. However, the AC/heater works very well - it was like an icebox when we came in during the day. The windows also leaked at night (there was a LOT of rain through the weekend) but it did not effect us, we just threw some towels on a few of the window sills to soak it up. All in all, I give this place 5 stars for the unique experience, comfort and amenities (DirectTV/WIFI), awesome soaker tub (with plenty of hot water), comfortable bed, and very friendly host. If you frequent Fredericksburg, you have to check it out at least once!

Relaxing weekend

The pictures don’t do the train car justice. You’re close enough to walk to Main Street and yet it’s secluded. Perfect weekend.

Cool train 10/10 would recommend

It was a super cool place. The train is not necessarily in prime location but is walking distance to main St. And very close to HEB for supplies. Every thing in the train car seemed unique to the FDR theme. The train is very large and comfortable. Overall we just loved the whole experience of sleeping on a train car. It was so interesting and fun!
