The cabin is in an amzing location and the view is so breathtaking. Jillian was wonderful and kind at check in and Tom was helpful when we had a little hickup. It is a bit of a strange experience to be checked in by a person, and even though she was on the property we did not see her for the rest of the time. The cabin is located in a great spot with easy access to just about everything. The kitchen is a tight fit for more then two people but we made it work. The highway in front can be a bit loud but you only hear it from the bedrooms and it did not keep us up. There were plenty of supplies in the house. The only complaint we have about this place was the amount of dust and dirt. It is in need of a deep cleaning. I dropped my phone of the side of the bed and was shocked but the whole house is in need of being dusted/cleaned. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean but still dusty. There is a lot of stuff in the home as well, which can make it feel cluttered, lots of art and furniture and it is not a place I would have young kids I would be worried about something breaking. We would consider staying here again in the future.

Beautiful and relaxing!

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin! It was so beautiful, couldn't ask for a better location! Everything was perfect! We enjoyed all of the outdoor areas, the hot tub on the river is just amazing. Loved the wood burning fireplace inside, that was truly wonderful. The whole cabin is decorated so cute, I just loved looking all around at everything! We plan to go back in the Fall. Highly recommend!

Exceeded expectations. We loved the view. We wanted a place to come and enjoy the outdoors and that’s exactly what we got. We would highly recommend and would book again. We love the town of sylva which is only a short drive. This is the cleanest place we have ever rented off of vrbo. No question we would stay again.

Terrible

Terrible. Filthy house. Had to share basement with other renters of the house. Only front door enter and exit. Not safe. The cabin is very small. We left early due to safety reasons. I was VERY disappointed! The owner said she would reimburse me but lied about that too!

Great family time!

It was a lovely cabin. It was very well stocked and Jill, the owner, was very attentive to her guest. Location was great for venturing 1.5 hours to Dollywood and hour to the Highlands. We spent our days out and only got to enjoy the cabin in the evening for family game nights. It was a lovely place to come back to in evening. I am sure families would really enjoy the outdoors and River in the warmer months! I would recommend this cabin to others! Thanks, Jill!

Great family memories

Picked this VRBO specifically because of everything there was on site; the river, comfortable family seating, hot tub, outdoor rec areas. It was a dream. The home was charming and well appointed and communication with the host was easy and very efficient. We traveled with our 3 kids (all teens) and there was enough room for everyone to retreat when needed, and so many options for gathering when we were hanging out. Loved the location to the Smokies, other area towns and grocery stores as well.

Fell short of expectations

Could have been better. The place needs a serious cleaning and dusting. My wife is asthmatic and we spend a great deal of our initial time dusting what we could. The little town close by is very quaint and with plenty of choices for things to do. Cabin is fairly close to hiking trails, making it easy to explore the area without traveling hours upon end. It was a good experience, but will not return.

Fun in Whittier!

We had a great time and loved the house, the view, the location and the proximity to the river! We will definitely book again. My ONLY comment about the property, and it isn’t a criticism, but just for other renters’ knowledge, is that if you intend to do much cooking, take your own spices or plan to buy once there. The only spices in the house are salt and pepper and no oil or anything like that. So just plan ahead. The house and all the decor is so interesting and the caretaker is super easy to work with! Loved it!

Beautiful property

We enjoyed staying on this property very much. The house was beautifully decorated and well equipped. Being right on the river was awesome. The fire places were beautiful, as were the black stone floors. Downside - there were 6 adults in our party and we were very crowded. The description said the house was 2,200 square feet. That probably includes the ground floor, which is occupied by the owner. The part of the house we were in was a little over 1,000 square feet total. The 3 bedrooms were very small, just enough room for a bed and room to crawl into it. The kitchen was also small. There is no pool table or hot tub, but no one said there would be. There is also no deck or porch to sit outside and look at the river. The only porch is small and on the side of the house near the road. The road is also very close to the house (maybe 20 feet). Overall, a great vacation. But if I had known the size of the space allotted to us, I probably would not have rented it.

A lot to work on

We booked this cabin to accompany my husband on a work trip. We viewed it as an extended vacation, and were excited to be staying on the river (we usually stay in Bryson City). Upon arrival, the caretaker greeted me and showed me around. She was nice, and it wasn't until we'd been at the cabin a few days that things started to reveal themselves. First, the cabin fixtures are extremely dusty. There were actual strands of dust hanging from the "canopy" of one of the beds. The first few days we ate out, and so it wasn't until day three that I pulled out some plates to find pieces of food still stuck to several of them. This was not something anyone could have missed had they checked. It was disgusting. I also had to rewash all of the coffee mugs. They had bits of dried on gunk stuck inside all of them. They advertised a "chef's kitchen" but I found that description to be very misleading. They didn't have any good knives. The few they had were very dull. Most were steak knives. What I think of as basic kitchen necessities were lacking. It was also surprising to find only four forks in the utensil drawer. The entire cabin is a good bit smaller than it appeared in the pictures, and my husband and I could not work together in the kitchen without being in each other's way. The dishwasher left a lot of debris after running, and there was a sandy residue on everything in the top rack. The dining table is very uncomfortable/inconvenient. The washing machine/dryer had a faint mildew smell. Almost none of the interior doors would shut or stay shut. The upstairs bedroom we slept in was very tight. You can only get on the bed at the foot as there is no space on either side. The cabin is also right on the road, so there is a lot of traffic noise. We never slept past about 6AM because of this. Also worth mentioning, the parking area is very tight. We have a normal sized pickup truck and it was a pain to get out or turned around each time we left. People drive very fast down that road, and it was a bit dangerous pulling out of the drive due to limited visibility. The outdoor area and firepit were a plus and we enjoyed the peaceful river, when we could hear it over the sound of the vehicles flying by. I don't usually write reviews, but we were really excited to stay at this cabin, and it was without a doubt the worst cabin we've ever rented. We considered complaining, but we realized there must be a reason they say in the listing "no refunds".

Overall, the property grounds are beautiful and somewhat private. The cabin is off a main road, but there are mature trees around. To note, you can hear cars on the main road if you will be sleeping in the downstairs bedroom, so rec bringin a sound machine. The grounds need work and look to be lacking for some time. For example, there are no blue rocks around the firepit as in the property main image. There were fallen branches and leaves, outside furniture was not cleaned off, but just to note it wasn't a deal breaker for the stay. All 3 of the bedrooms are smaller, and I personally felt claustrophic. The cabin interior decor is high quality and beautiful artisan and crafts. The kitchen is fully equipped, but will note that there are limited storage options in the space. Also to note, no tupperware, alum foil, or plastic wrap so will need to bring your own. Plenty of towels and the bed linens and beds were comfortable. DirectTV and Internet worked overall as intended. One morning the signal was out and we believe was due to heavy fog. The location is good proximity into Cherokee, and there were a few route options in either direction getting to and from. Our host Tammy was very responsive and allowed us to check in early as the cabin was ready, which we very much appreciated. We also love that this cabin is pet friendly. We were very comfortable overall for our stay. The inside fireplace was so relaxing and to be overlooking the river was what dreams are made of.

The property is amazing. The communications were excellent start to finish. Decor and design elements were outstanding questions and thoughtfully created.We loved every element of our stay and will definitely stay again.Very minor recommendations.Evaluate cooking utensils, pots and pans for quality and everything needed to prepare meals.Property could use a thorough cleaning. However, we also understand how difficult it would be to keep such a unique place clean.LOVED THE PLACE!

The location is great and the property on the river is beautiful. But the area for guests is not 2,000 square feet. The owners area is the entire bottom floor and I think that is included in the square footage. As others have mentioned, the place is a little dusty and if you are sensitive to dust then it's probably better to look at other options.

Mountain Retreat

Owner stayed entire time on property

The owner said she was leaving on Monday but stayed the entire stay. We paid for privacy but did not receive it also the house is not at all accessible for anyone who has mobility challenges. Also, the owner only provides minimal TP, trash bags, and paper towels. Not enough for an entire stay.

Where to start! The house is amazing. Everything you need for a stay is supplied. There is plenty to do right at the house. The owner and caretaker are super responsive. The area is quite and peaceful with just a few miles to nearby Cherokee and Bryson City! You will not regret visiting!

Nice place to stay

Overall it was a good vacation spot nothing wrong with the manager or owner or cabin inside was clean outside was too for the most part. Few people who was there before us didn’t clean up after their dogs and fishing at the cabin wasn’t too good but it was in a good location to find fishing spots and close to Cherokee which was the two main points of our trip. Owner was friendly wish she had come and eat and drink with us while we were there but she was busy so it was understandable. Had a good time though and she said she planned to.add a deck over the river by next year which will improve the fishing.

Pre-Thanksgiving getaway

This house is absolutely beautiful inside and out. The pictures do NOT do it justice. The decorations are very fascinating and give a true mountain cabin feel. The outside area, well that is just beyond words. A zen garden, a patio, a fire pit, horse shoes, hot tub. All with slate stone walk ways. The river is gorgeous. The train that runs across the river is a steam powered passenger train. We didn’t leave the entire time we were there for the 3 nights. Had groceries delivered by Walmart. Many family games. Kitchen fully equipped with place settings for 8. Gas stove, electric oven. The caretaker, Tammy, is amazing and very responsive. This home would be a great place any time of the year!! We definitely plan on returning in the summer.

Fabulous Location

Excellent location to Bryson City and Cherokee. We could see the Elk in the morning and the evening. It’s a beautiful drive to Gatlinburg! The cabin grounds are just perfect to sit by the river and have coffee in the morning or enjoy the hot tub in the evening. We couldn’t have been happier with the outdoor areas! And have a bonfire with the family at night. Just Beautifully landscaped!

This Log home's location and title, was inspired by the oil painting, “Following The River”, by Robert Duncan.
The pictorial imagery of Native Americans on horseback crossing a wintery river's edge could secretly come to life in this uniquely tranquil, unobstructed river view. The Tuckaseeggee River’s abundant wild life and its degrees of strength, are breathtaking and worth the perch.
