Secluded Mountain Top House With Nature all Around

The Tree Farm House was built in 2010. It has a large master suite with a king sized bed and two guest bedrooms with queen sized beds. Designed by a Costa Rican architect, this house sits high atop a mountain ridge and is surround by the natural forest, teak plantation and rural area. The Guest House was designed for all rooms to enjoy the wonderful climate that Miramar Costa Rica has to offer. The kitchen, living room, master bedroom and guest bedrooms all walk-out to a magnificent covered back porch that can be used at all times of the day and night. One of the most fun features of the house is the outdoor shower in the master bathroom. The house sits on a 115-hectare tree plantation with 50 of the hectares are natural forest. Two scenic streams run through the property. Wildlife and bird watching opportunities are fantastic. Nature walks through the farm are plentiful and impressive. Many swimming holes are available in the streams on the property. Imagine having a wonderful nature reserve type of property all to yourself.

Things to note. The house is in a rural area and the road into the house is dirt. The dirt road is 12KM and it can be bumpy and has some steep sections so a 4X4 vehicle is necessary. It is a quiet place to disconnect. There is a Cota Rican family that cares for the house. They live in their own separate house 100M up the hill. They are happy to help with anything and would be happy to show yu around the property.

Lovely place in the mountains

Situated in the mountains, the house is on a 25 hectare teak farm. The hosts were gracious and kind, he helped with our car and took us to the magical waterfall swim hole near by. The house itself is beautiful and can be totally great, our only wish was that felt a little more lived in. No books, no extra towels, no salt, no tea kettle - we hit by five but it could use a few more basics for the price — ultimately our stay was comfortable and nice. The local dogs like to wait for treats by the screen door morning n night. At dawn the jungle was alive with the sounds of howler monkeys and birds. The house is an indoor outdoor design and we found a big scorpion with babies all over it indoors. We drove to Berninas artisan food for dinner one night and it was a fantastic experience!! All in all a wonderful place to stay and experience a different side of Costa Rica.

Unique property in the mountain, great experience!

It is a very "Designed" house, in the middle of nowhere We were not sure how it would work without AC but it was so nice, the area seems to have low humidity and constant wind flow The house is very specious and well equipped The road to get there is a dirt road that takes time.... we knew that and didn't care since the stay was so nice When you plan your visit we recommend to bring everything in advance and just stay there!

Nous avons été ravis

Maison luxueuse très agréable et confortable. Accueil remarquable. Lits très confortable, cuisine bien équipée. Un vrai havre de paix. La route de terre se conduit bien, autant le jour qu’à la noirceur. Bref, nous avons été ravis par cette maison.

Once we did the drive - it was gorgeous!

The communication was amazing prior our visit and the directions were spot on! Thanks! Not a full 5 stars as it is a working farm and we were woken up early 2 mornings (at 5am!). But the house and surrounding are beautiful and relaxing!

Amazing!!!

My husband and I spent nearly two weeks at this amazing home. We absolutely loved it. I will admit, the drive to the house was a little nerve racking the first time but we had 4 wheel drive so it was no problem. We greatly enjoyed the peace and tranquility, waking to the sound of the howler monkeys just in time to see the beautiful sunrises every morning, the cows grazing in the trees behind the house, and the wonderful caretaker and his family. The house is pretty remote, which we did not mind, but be prepared to spend up to 45 minutes in the car to get to Nicoya or Samara (depending on the traffic and road construction). I highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, including television, social media, and the telephone. We had a mobile hotspot and even that wouldn't work here but it was actually quite nice to never feel like I needed to keep up with the news or social media. I have many wonderful pictures of the house and property, but unfortunately I cannot upload them, so you will just have to see it for yourself!

Gorgeous!

What a beautiful home tucked away up in the hills! We had a great overnight there. The house itself was worth the trek there (you need 4x4 to get therr) but the views were tremendous! Wonderful warm welcome from the property manager and the nicest, cutest dogs who became our best friends. Highly recommend this place!

Great family getaway

My husband and our 2 young kids stayed in this home for about 5 days. Best vacation ever. The home is beautiful and the setting is even more amazing. If your family cannot live without electronics, this might not be the place for you as there is no wifi or TV. There is however lots of amazing beaches very close by. The caretakers were really nice. It is a little intimidating initially driving up to the house but after the 1st day, it was part of the adventure for my family of 4. We will definitely come back to stay here.

Beautiful house but not well maintained.

The house is beautiful but not very clean or well maintained by the caretakers, which we have shared details of with Jake, the owner. We stayed at the house in Feb (dry season), so the photos of the green trees is not what we saw. As in the US, the leaves were down & the trees barren. If you stay during the rainy season the setting would look as depicted, but then it would be very challenging to get to/from the house because the dirt road leading to the house is not well maintained. They are also deforesting the mountains around the area, which also took away from the beautiful setting. Still it was a pretty & tranquil setting; just not what the photos depicted. The house was hot as the temps were in the upper 90's each day & no amount of air circulating with fans & windows open cooled it down enough to sleep well. Between the hot temps, the animals howling, the loud/constant wind ea night, and a skunk as a visitor one night, unfortunately we did not have restful sleep any night. The caretakers are enjoyable people but their house is very close to the rental. We have visited Costa Rica on 3 separate occasions and stayed in homes on each trip, and this was our least enjoyable home, for a variety of reasons.

Exactly as described, remote, peaceful and a very good value for the accommodations provided.

The house is exactly as described and met our expectations. The road to the property is rough and steep in places. We opted to use 4WD in the bad areas. We probably could have made it up in 2WD and sufficient momentum as it was dry. Do note that in normal traffic and speed limit, the drive is closer to 2 hours from the Liberia airport.

Great home, great location

This home was perfect! The view and the home were both a great get away. The kids loved running around outside. The grownups loved letting them. It was great to get away from all the people. The care takers went out of their way to help us and took us to a waterfall for the kids to swim in. Also this was easy to find for being out of the way!

Just wow!

We had an amazing time and loved every minute of our stay. The caretaker, Martin and his family are wonderful people! The house is simply stunning, open, bright and comfortable in every way. We loved cooking there. The swimming hole/waterfall is a must do. We went with Martin and his extended family for a great day there. The entire area has a rural feel that, as a rural person myself, I found very comfortable. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to unplug and reconnect with themselves and with their surroundings! Great value too!

Unigue modern house in the mountains of Costa Rica

We stayed at the house during Christmas of 2016 and enjoyed the place a lot. We are a family of 5 with two sons (22 and 16 yrs old) and my mom went with us as well. It is a beautiful place, you need a 4*4 to get there and it takes about 20 minutes to drive from the paved road at the bottom of the mountain to the house. We have loaded maps of Costa Rica onto our GPS and did not have any problems finding the house using GPS coordinates provided by the owner. The drive is very scenic with magnificent views of the mountains all the way. The caretakers of the property live in a separate house about 200 feet away. It is a very nice local family. They do not speak English, only Spanish. Even though we do not speak Spanish, we were able to communicate with them when needed. They have 4 great, super friendly dogs that greet you all the time. The caretaker took us on two long hikes in the mountains to see a waterfall and to a swimming hole. Both hikes were great and a little challenging. The closest beach to the house is playa Samara and it takes about 35-40 min by car to get there depending on how you drive. The house is very secluded and we enjoyed our evenings there relaxing on the porch in a hammock and listening to howler monkeys.

Architectual wonder in the hills

Wow, what a place. We arrived after dark and had no idea what would greet us in the morning. This architectual wonder is surrounded by teak trees as far as the eye can see. The howler monkeys and birds are right out your backdoor at sunrise to greet the new day. This is a true gem and just the place to get take the family "off the grid". No internet, no phones, no TV's, but plenty of adventure. The caretaker, Martin. guided us on horseback thru the jungle to a private swimming hole on the property. We spent hours walking up and down the river, and sitting/swimming in the pools. The kids had a blast. Super fun and very refreshing.. Plenty of activities to enjoy: Drink Costa Rican coffee, drink Costa Rican beer, eat beans and rice, play cards, read a book, do a crossfit WOD in the yard, handle a machet, swim in a river, jump off a waterfall, ride a horse, make friends with random dogs, make friends with wonderful locals, and take in the unbelievable scenery. This is the perfect "off the grid" family stop before (or after) your visit to the Costa Rican beaches about 45 minutes away. Jake and Erica are wonderful hosts to work with and will provide you all the necessary details to find this hidden gem. We will be back for sure..

Neat architecture, little else

The architecture of the house is unique and really cool. You'll not find another house like this. Pros: *on demand hot water - a rarity in Costa Rica, in our experience *there's a washing machine *neat house, lots of natural light * cool natural sounds - howler monkeys! 4 am rooster! What you're renting here is a main house with the kitchen, utility room, living area and master suite as well as a detached "guest house" with two bedrooms and a bathroom. For our family of 6 (2 adults, 4 smallish kids) this setup was far from ideal. The guest house door can be locked shut, but then must be opened from either side by key. I did not feel comfortable either locking the kids in OR leaving the door unlocked. So, our family of 6 all slept in the main house. The house in general needs some TLC. When we first arrived, none of the three sinks in the kitchen drained properly - yuck. The on-site caretaker was able to get someone to partly fix the sinks, which made them usable. Besides that, there were puddles indoors whenever it rained. The floor hadn't been swept and the toilets were dirty. The view at this house could have been spectacular. The porch in the rear of the house is awesome. But. There is a wall of teak trees (not visible in the promotional pictures) obscuring any real beauty that's out there. Getting to and away from this property is not for the faint-hearted, at least in rainy season. The road is deeply rutted, steep, twisty and bumpy. It took a good half hour for us to get to the hard road from the house. The views along the road are really nice, though. And we saw all sorts of interesting rural scenes. Getting to the beach at Samara took us an hour, easily. No matter what your GPS tells you, do not turn left out of the driveway and expect to get anywhere good, at least during rainy season. We were "headed to Nosara", as per the GPS, and nearly blundered into a small river. Yikes! Getting back UP the steep hill we'd gone down was dodgy. Twice when we returned to the home after having been out, a mob of well-meaning but ill-mannered dogs greeted us at the car. Our small children were terrified, though not harmed. If you enjoy sleeping past 4a, either bring some serious earplugs or stay elsewhere. There are no curtains on the windows, but it really wasn't light before 5:30a. The rooster, however, started at 4a. Every day. We really wanted to like this house. But I can't recommend it.

Loved it!

This beautiful home was a real treat for our vacation. The pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the home. We were glad we had a 4 wheel drive to get there, so be sure not to attempt the drive in a car. The scenery is incredible. It is a bit of a drive to and from the house to do anything around the area so be prepared for that.

Great place to relax and enjoy Costa Rica

The house is amazing; like nothing else we saw in Costa Rica. We stayed in 5 different places during our trip and this house was the best. The family taking care of the property is great as well and friendly. The night was enjoyable to sit and listen to the animals in darkness. Although my wife and I were the only guests in the house, it can easily sleep 6-8. Owner was nice as well and communication online was good.

Very cool secluded vacation house

My fiancé and I stayed here for four days in December. It is a beautiful property with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Wonderful farm house!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 days as a part of our honeymoon in Costa Rica. We were pleasantly surprised. The view was amazing and it was so nice to sit out on the back patio and relax after a day of activities. The kitchen was huge and as people who love to cook we find everything we needed for our meals during our stay. Additionally, the family who cares for the farm could not have been more sweet and we enjoyed our interactions with them as well. With the open air aspect of the house, I felt as though I were falling asleep each night on the patio under the stars - only I got that experience without the mosquitoes since I was actually indoors in the bedroom! We enjoyed listening to howler monkeys, listening to the wind rattle the teak tree leaves, watching fireflies and chickens, and listening to storms creep through the mountains in the distance (we were there in the rainy season). This is definitely a place I would like to return to!

Authentic Costa Rica

This was our second trip to Costa Rica and by far more spectacular than the first. On our first day, we explored the rain forest learning about the various ecosystems and their inhabitants and of course, enjoyed an adrenalin-filled zip-lining tour. We then spent three days on the Bauers Family Tree Farm located in a remote region of the sourthern Nicoya Peninsula. It far exceeded our expectations. Nestled atop a hillside, the simple and elegant home, built with a modern Costa Rican aesthetic, overlooks a beautiful teak tree plantation. We spent our days on the beaches of Samara, soaking in the sun, boogie boarding the waves and watching horses run wild along the shore. A four-wheel drive on the farm was a fun way to experience the rustic environment and we were greeted by a large pod of howler monkeys enjoying their natural habitat. We hiked to a phenomenal view of the plantation and met cows roaming freely along the way. Trips into nearby Nicoya provided true local flavor. Afternoons and evenings on the farm were cool, tranquil and relaxing. Bird watching, chasing geckos, listening to the sounds of nature, cooking real Costa Rican food and enjoying the company of friends - it doesn't get any better than this. We were in search of an authentic Costa Rican experience and we definitely got it! We hope to return some day!

A place to remember!

It was our first time in Costa Rica and we are counting the days to return. We have travelled all over the world and rented many villas, this villa is everything we wanted. Our two teenagers, my wife and I loved the country, Guanacaste region and surely the finca and the villa. This is the perfect place to relax far from touristic traps and grounded to the real Costa Rica and its richness. The guess house is spectacular, modern in its architecture and services. The glass walls give a perfect view of the awesome nature surrounding the site. Take a walk downhill to find a nice river with natural pools and small waterfalls. Walk in the trails of the finca and discover fauna and flora of the country. The environment is safe and the farm manager, Martin and his family living in the area, are very helpful and respectful and so nice. There is no internet but even our teenagers never said a word against it. This is the perfect place to relax and discover Costa Rica.

Good memories

This is what we found at this house during our three-day stay: - Time to relax and bond, once again - Good food cooked by ourselves - A trek to a waterhole and a refreshing swim - Space to do our routine exercises - A good open air shower - Lots of windows and doors - Interesting insects - Toucans and monkeys - Good music (we brought our Bluetooth speaker) - Not having to drive the car - Different ways to lit the house at night (indoor) - Martin, the very helpful neighbor in charge of making sure all is well. - A laundry machine

It was our first time vacationing in Costa Rica and the experience was awesome. The guest house had spectacular views that took my breath away. The location was remote and serene yet easily accessible to the beach and town for groceries. I enjoyed sharing time with the caretakers and learning spanish. The sound of nature was like a symphony playing every night to lull me to sleep. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and hope to make it an annual trip.

The perfect getaway

My mom and I stayed at the guest house for a week in late July. Although it's classified as the rainy season, apart from a couple showers in the late afternoon, I had blue skies and sunshine every single day. The house is an incredible sight in itself; very spacious, outdoor showers and ceiling fans in bedrooms that are a must in the slightly humid "rainy" season. Overall, extremely comfortable. The back patio has great furniture and overlooks lush mountains and is pretty much where we spent the majority of our time relaxing. You should consider bringing music and games/books and in the night time, plan on hearing some of the neatest sounds/noises coming from the wildlife. You'll want to stop before or in the town of Nicoya for food/supplies. The Super mercado is located on the main street you take on the way to the house. Grab trash bags. The caretaker and family are extremely friendly and polite. I recommend brushing up on your Spanish and he is more than willing to show you a great hike throughout the vast property. Make sure you have a vehicle with 4WD to get up the dirt/rock terrain leading up to the property. If you plan on hitting the beach, Samara is where I would recommend going first. It is easy to get to (30 minutes away) and the town has got some sweet restaurants and shops. The beach has smaller waves perfect for taking a surf lesson for just $40 all day! Playa Guiones/Nosara are the other beaches we traveled to a little further away and although the road is bumpy, it's well worth the trek. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway where you can settle for a slowdown you definitely won't regret spending some time at this property. If you are not into nature and need TV or need internet access, you may consider checking out a more touristy part of Costa Rica.

Loved our stay, very unique

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bauer Tree Farm mountain house. It was one of the most unique parts of our stay in Costa Rica. We only stayed one night on our way from Papagayo Peninsula to Santa Teresa, but would have liked to stay longer. The property views and the house architecture are beautiful. The house is very comfortable and spacious. The drive to the property is a bit of a challenge as the dirt / gravel roads are steep in rough shape and I would definitely recommend arriving in a 4x4. Not knowing quite where we were going taking it slow and taking one wrong turn it took us about 40 min off the main road to get to the house, but only took 20-25 minutes on the way out once we were more familiar. It is very helpful to know some spanish for conversing with the host family, but it's not absolutely necessary. We enjoyed a hike (up the river at the bottom of the hill past the house, about a 20 min walk to river + 20 min hike up river) to a waterfall which was beautiful. The host family on the property was extremely friendly and helpful getting us settled. As could be expected in Costa Rica, we saw a lot of wildlife and insects which made the experience even more authentic. The patio was beautiful for sitting out watching the stars and relaxing at meal time. We loved our stay here.

I grew up in Boulder, Colorado, USA, and now live just down the road in Denver. Growing up around Boulder I developed a great love and respect for nature. Throughout my childhood, my parents encouraged me to take advantage of the opportunities that mountain life provided. We were fortunate to spend our formative years outdoors, and these early experiences led us to truly appreciate nature. The feeling I get from being in a forest rich with lush undergrowth is indescribable, and it gives me a heightened awareness of the life that surrounds us and the connections between all living things.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

Why Costa Rica? In 1999 I met his wife, Ericka, a native Costa Rican. From the first time I visited later that year I fell in the love with the country. The incredible lushness of the vegetation, the diverse and incredible wildlife, the great weather year round, and the beautiful mountains rainforest and beaches kept me coming back year after year.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

Our guesthouse is perfectly secluded in a beautiful mountain setting. Close enough to the city that you can get the supplies you need, but far enough out that you can truly connect with nature. The beach and national parks are close enough to make an easy day trip to either. The vast property (115 hectares) gives the perfect setting to get out and discover all types of wildlife. From a vast array of birds to monkeys to beautiful butterflies to rarer sightings such as rain forest deer. You can truly experience this beautiful country that isn't possible in other settings.
