Welcome to Lava Family Inn and Spiritual River Sanctuary with over a mile of river frontage. We offer more than just a beautiful home and surroundings to sleep in.

Lava Family Inn is located just minutes from Downtown Lava Hot Springs with swimming, tubing, parks, restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, museums, etc. If you are a skier, Pebble Creek Ski Resort is also just minutes away.

Our property is a fully furnished, 8 bedroom, 5 ½ bath, vacation home. Ideal for large or multiple family reunions, retreats, weddings, and receptions. Perfect backdrop for family photos. The home is very secluded, with surrounding vegetation, grassy yard, small pond and a stream that run through, with wildlife to be seen almost daily, especially in the mornings and evenings.

Located in Southeast Idaho-- an hour and forty five minute drive north from Salt Lake City. Surrounded by mountains of public land with trails that are perfect for hikes, walks, biking, dirt biking, four wheeling and horse back riding. Portnuef River is located just below the property with sportsman access for excellent trout fishing. The river has several watering holes for swimming close by, or just watching its many waterfalls. Floating the Portnuef River at Lava Hot Springs is both entertaining and relaxing -especially during the hot Summer months.

Lava Hot Springs is not the only hot springs to visit in Idaho. 46 miles East of our family home, you should visit Soda Springs, Idaho one of the worlds only captive geysers! Now capped and controlled by a timer, the geyser erupts every hour on the hour reaching heights of 100 feet year round.

Our Vacation Home sleeps up to 28 in beds with plenty of extra room for air mattresses, sleeping bags or cots.

To get an actual quote it is important to put total number of guests when booking. If you don't know exactly, just book for what you are sure of. Guests under age of 2 you don't need to count.
From feeding the ducks and wild animals to secluded swimming holes at the Sanctuary that are safe for all, everyone will have a great experience.

We have added security cameras on the outside, that view the front, Southside of the house. We also have cameras that view the north side of house pointing away from the house.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at the Lava Family Inn. Joel and family are awesome to work with, very responsive and welcoming. The space is fantastic for our big family and we spent some time at the sanctuary this time around. The kids loved feeding the ducks, playing outside and all of the toys and games inside.

Family Reunion

It was a perfect weekend. It was clean and beautiful, inside and outside. They had everything you could need to entertain and feed everyone. The kids loved all the space outside. Joel was amazing to communicate with and did everything he could to help our family have a fun and bonding experience.

Quiet, safe, and comfortable

Our family included 23 individuals and we had plenty of space for sleeping, eating, and just hanging out. The grandchildren had great spaces for exploring, playing tag, capture the flag, swing, duck feeding, and more. The adults enjoyed the decks and beauty of the surrounding trees. We had a great family reunion thanks to the comfort of this location.

This place was amazing. The home was very large. Tbe master bedroom had an Alaskan king-size bed. Grandkids were very impressed with this bed. We had 30 at our family reunion. Lots of space, inside and outside for everyone. The owners were very nice. Answered all my questions quickly.

Great place to house a large group. Loved the outdoor space for the kids to play. Would stay again.

Easy to book, property manager was available and easy to ask questions, and overall a great time! Worked well for our large group of friends to get away for a weekend.

We really enjoyed our time there it has lots of things to do not to far away and has a big yard for the games that we played, also the family enjoyed the sanctuary it was good for all the kids and adults to play in the water and other things that was there to do

Family Reunion

We enjoyed our stay and especially loved the yard and surrounding area for all sorts of games and exploring. There was 26 of us and we had plenty of room. Great place for a large group.

Peaceful setting

Beautiful area with nice views. The host arranged for us to use the sanctuary area for archery and ax throwing. We also used the fire pit and it was very relaxing. The house was spacious but don’t plan on using the basement as they have had ongoing problems with the plumbing and the drain down there.Two of the bathrooms were out of order. We had 20 people and we all had beds. I would not recommend having more than 30 in this house. Also, be aware there is a per person fee on top of the nightly fee that was not disclosed. Just showed up on the receipt.

Big house and Big bed

Lots of room. The littles loved the ducks and the play area. Owner was very responsive. I would suggest to have AC running well before guests arrive. The first night, my family that slept in two of the bedrooms were so warm, it was hard to sleep. And yes they had the provided fans running. As long as the master bedroom was set at 68, the rooms upstairs were nice. No one wanted to sleep in the basement and fortunately we didn't really need it. That area could use an upgrade. Found mouse droppings in the kitchen cabinets. Probably need to deep clean the kitchen. It was also difficult to get a hot shower, no matter how we spaced them out. Overall, it wasn't bad.

Second time staying here

This is the second time we’ve stayed at this location. There is plenty of room for all 17 of us. Property is beautiful and perfect for outdoor games and for kids to play. Good location in relation to city of Lava. The upper floor does get quite warm but, fans are provided in each of the rooms to try and help with that.

This property was amazing. Very clean. Host was amazing to communicate with me on anything I needed. We loved the wild turkeys and ducks. They greeted us every morning. The property's kitchen facilities were so wonderful. I would recommend this property to anyone and my family wants to come stay again. I think I will try in the warmer months to take full advantage of all this property has to offer. Thank you.

I am the oldest boy of 12 children and have 4 children and 1 grand baby. I grew up in West Bountiful, Utah, where I learned to milk at the age of 5, and milked alone at the age of 7. Growing up as a family we made several trips, to Idaho to visit the Crossleys with the Potato harvest, and went fishing afterwards. The trips to Idaho as a young boy, is when I fell in love with Idaho. My parents also made trips to Missouri, and on occasion was able to go, when our milk cows had dried up. My parents ended up buying a farm in Missouri when I was 12, of which my parents still live there today, and Milk a cow together morning and night.

I have been Electrical Engineer for 26 years, and have done work all over the US as well as countries abroad. I currently work an engineer in Idaho, traveling as an engineer have basically stopped. Being able to work from home in 2006 and fairly close to an airport, I decided to buy this place in Idaho. In 2007 I added 3000 sqft to the home, and 2010 the older part of the house was remodeled, making it a great place for family gatherings. This was my primary residence until 2011, where I accepted a position with a large engineering firm out of state in the Kansas City Area, fairly close to the family farm. Missing the people and the lovely state of Idaho, I decided to move back in 2016. My housing manager and I both live close to this property, which is nice so I can also host reunions of my large family.

This property is an ideal place for large family gatherings. It has two large kitchen / family rooms for entertaining large groups. We do several family reunions and average about 4 weddings/receptions a year.

It's great all year around from skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, hiking in the spring, Lava Hot Springs with natural hot pools open year round, white water tubing in the summer. Excellant hunting in the fall.
