Gathering Pines – Trailside Modern 3BR in Mazama
Summary:
Gathering Pines is a modern three-bedroom home nestled in the pines near Mazama village, offering privacy, tranquility, and direct trail access. This Passive House retreat is built for year-round comfort and energy efficiency. The home sleeps up to eight with a king suite, queen bedroom, and bunk room. Tall windows frame the surrounding forest, while polished concrete floors and wood finishes create a warm, modern feel. In winter, step out the door to ski directly onto the Nordic trails.
The Space:
Nestled among quiet pines just 1.5 miles from Mazama village, Gathering Pines offers a rare combination of privacy, tranquility, and direct trail access. Certified by the Passive House Institute (PHI), this modern three-bedroom retreat is designed for year-round comfort, exceptional energy efficiency, and peaceful interiors, creating an atmosphere of deep rest and relaxation.
In winter, the Goat Creek Nordic Trail runs directly behind the home, offering true ski-in/ski-out access to the Flagg Mountain Loop and the wider Methow Trails system. In every season, large east-facing windows frame views of protected National Forest land. These windows capture the morning sunlight, making them the perfect place to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee or tea while watching the day begin.
Inside, the home blends simplicity and style with polished concrete floors, warm wood accents, and an open-plan living area filled with natural light. A circular dining table for six, leather seating, and a fully stocked kitchen with all appliances, pots, pans, and cookware make it easy to prepare and host large meals.
Bedrooms include:
- King suite with ensuite bath
- Guest queen bedroom
- Bunk room with two twin XL over twin XL bunk beds designed for adults (four total mattresses)
A second full bath includes a ventless washer/dryer. The home also features a mudroom with storage for wet gear and two dedicated drying racks that quickly dry boots, gloves, and hats, perfect after a day on the trails.
Built and certified to the Passive House standard, Gathering Pines features super-insulated walls, European triple-glazed windows, and a high-performance ventilation system that improves indoor air quality. An efficient heat pump with AC provides consistent heating and cooling year-round, making the home cozy in winter, cool in summer, and remarkably quiet in all seasons.
The Neighborhood:
Gathering Pines is part of a quiet neighborhood of well-spaced homes set among the pines, just outside Mazama village. From here you’ll find easy access to the Methow Trails system for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. Mazama offers a well-stocked store and bakery, the Goat’s Beard outdoor shop (with bike rentals), and Mazama Ski School for ski rentals and lessons. The Mazama Public House is a popular stop for food and drinks. For seasonal trail ideas and visitor info, see our activity guides on the Inn at Mazama website.
North Cascades National Park
Mazama is also well placed for exploring the North Cascades. Trailheads for many of the Park’s best hikes are a short drive away: about 25 minutes to Cutthroat Lake, 30 minutes to Washington Pass, and 35 minutes to Maple Pass. Getting Around:
Getting Here: From May to November, the most direct route from Seattle and the west side is via State Route 20 over Washington Pass (check WSDOT for seasonal closures). In winter, alternate routes are via I-90 and Snoqualmie Pass with Blewett Pass, or via Highway 2 over Stevens Pass. Together these form the scenic Cascade Loop. Major airports include Spokane International (180 miles, year-round) and Seattle-Tacoma International (190 miles in summer / 260 miles in winter). Regional flights are also available at Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee (102 miles).
