The Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) are a complex of several state and national parks located in the United States, along the coast of northern California. Comprising Redwood National Park (established 1968) and California's Del Norte Coast, Jedediah Smith, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Parks (dating from the 1920s), the combined RNSP contain 139,000 acres (560 km2),[3] and feature old-growth temperate rainforests. Located entirely within Del Norte and Humboldt Counties, the four parks, together, protect 45% of all remaining coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) old-growth forests, totaling at least 38,982 acres (157.75 km2). These trees are the tallest and one of the most massive tree species on Earth. In addition to the redwood forests, the parks preserve other indigenous flora, fauna, grassland prairie, cultural resources, portions of rivers and other streams, and 37 miles (60 km) of pristine coastline.

In 1850, old-growth redwood forest covered more than 2,000,000 acres (8,100 km2) of the California coast. The northern portion of that area, originally inhabited by Native Americans, attracted many lumbermen and others turned gold miners when a minor gold rush brought them to the region. Failing in efforts to strike it rich in gold, these men turned toward harvesting the giant trees[4] for booming development in San Francisco and other places on the West Coast. After many decades of unrestricted clear-cut logging, serious efforts toward conservation began. By the 1920s the work of the Save-the-Redwoods League, founded in 1918 to preserve remaining old-growth redwoods, resulted in the establishment of Prairie Creek, Del Norte Coast, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Parks among others. Redwood National Park was created in 1968, by which time nearly 90% of the original redwood trees had been logged. The National Park Service (NPS) and the California Department of Parks and Recreation (CDPR) administratively combined Redwood National Park with the three abutting Redwood State Parks in 1994 for the purpose of cooperative forest management and stabilization of forests and watersheds as a single unit.[5]

The ecosystem of the RNSP preserves a number of threatened animal species such as the tidewater goby, Chinook salmon, northern spotted owl, and Steller's sea lion.[6] In recognition of the rare ecosystem and cultural history found in the parks, the United Nations designated them a World Heritage Site on September 5, 1980 and part of the California Coast Ranges International Biosphere Reserve on June 30, 1983.[7]

Trinidad State Beach is accessed via a short hike through the woods, across open bluffs, and past seasonal wildflowers. There is a natural arch near the north end of the beach. Low tide is the best time to visit.

The beach offers restrooms, picnic area, parking area, trails, an open grassy area and spruce forest. The 1/2 mile trail to the beach drops 120 feet. On the high bluffs above the beach there is an open meadow with scattered stands of alders. Visitor facilities include restrooms, parking, and a small picnic area with, tables and stoves.
Trinidad State Beach spans a wide space between Elk Head on the north end and Trinidad Head on the south end in the Humboldt County town of Trinidad. Pewetole Island, a huge rock close to the beach in this west-facing bay, divides Trinidad State Beach into two coves.

The main beach in the south cove has easy access from parking lots on the west end of town (at the end of Lighthouse Road and also at a signed entrance off Stagecoach Road).

The north beach is called College Cove and it has a separate parking lot and trailhead farther down Stagecoach Road. Be careful while exploring the remote areas of Trinidad State Beach as the rising tide can trap you against the cliffs. Trinidad Head offers a great hiking opportunity to the summit, a lighthouse, and many excellent viewpoints.
Old Home Beach, also known as Indian Beach, is a narrow beach on Trinidad Bay in the small town of Trinidad. It has been renamed, probably out of political correctness, but some signage still has the old name. This protected beach offers great views of Trinidad Head and the bay with many picturesque rocks sticking up. There are two ways to get to Old Home Beach from the bluff above it. The first is down a trail with stairs behind the Trinidad Lighthouse Memorial at the corner of Trinity and Edwards Streets. The second beach access is down a trail at the end of Parker Street called the Parker Creek Trail (park on grass at top of the hill and walk down Parker St.). The view from the lighthouse memorial is stunning.
Thirty miles north of Eureka, Patrick’s Point State Park sits on a lushly forested promontory beside the Pacific Ocean.

The one-square-mile park is densely packed with potential adventures. On a short walk around the perimeter of the park, you can hunt for agates, explore tidepools, and walk through a jungle of shrubs and trees as you peer out at seals, sea lions, and migrating whales. In the park’s interior, you’ll find a visitor center, a native plant garden, and a reconstructed Yurok plank-house village. You can picnic or wake up to birdsong at one of three campgrounds. In summer, you can witness a traditional ceremony at Sumêg Village or take a hike led by a docent or professional naturalist.
PATRICKS POINT STATE PARK is a RV Park in or near the town of Trinidad. It is a slightly larger than medium park with a listed 124 spots to park your recreational vehicle. This park has pull thru sites for your convenience. If your coach is 36 feet or longer you might want to call and see if you are too long. Make sure your generator is fueled up for this park. Electric looks to not be provided. The largest electric service is probably 30 amp. At a minimum, make sure you have some drinking water as water hookups are not provided. Probably due to the nature of the park and its location, sewer connections are not available. The park has a more authentic camping experience than some RV parks due to the lack of 802.11 WiFi. We have no idea of the over the air TV, but we do know that no Cable TV is provided. Animals are welcome here. Some parts of this RV Park are more rustic than others with tent camping being accepted. Some shade trees do exist, which also make the park more scenic and attractive.

Holiday Haven

Trinidad is a gorgeous and very friendly little coastal town. The best of both worlds with beaches to explore and redwood forests just up the coast. The property was incredible, so well suited for our thanksgiving stay. Communication with management was quick and easy and we really appreciated how accommodating they were. If you can do it, it’s worth it and so memorable!

Pictures Don’t Do it Justice!

This home is exceptional and deserves every 5 star review it has. The home is expertly decorated and appointed. Our family of 5 plus a few of our daughters’ friends enjoyed our stay here more than we can express! The beds are exquisite and plenty of supplies are provided. The kitchen had everything needed to make meals in the gorgeous kitchen with the best view of Trinidad Harbor! Sitting in the hot tub looking out at the beautiful ocean view was my favorite part. We loved being in walking distance to Murphy’s for groceries and the souvenir shops for the kids. The beach is so close! We parked our cars and walked everywhere for our whole stay! We will absolutely be back and highly recommend this property.

Beautiful house in perfect location!

My family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens) stayed here for Spring Break. The house was well stocked and each bedroom could have it's own bathroom...which is great for teen or 3 different couples. The view from the living room was breathtaking. We also enjoyed the hot tub. The location is PERFECT. Walking distance to several restaurants and a nice market. I recommend checking out the restaurants hours so you can plan meals. I really hope to stay at the Harbor Moon another time soon.

An absolute hidden gem

First of all, this sleepy fishing village was the best kept secret of our entire stay. We were only a block or two away from at least 5 restaurants, a winery tasting room, an amazing hike up Trinidad Head, a grocery store, a gas station, and a post office. What else could you need?! The views were spectacular, the hot tub was to die for, and the house itself was extremely clean and well appointed. I was blown away by this rental and would recommend it ten fold over any other unit or location in the area at large. Very very happy! If you are on the fence you should go with your gut and book Harbor Moon like yesterday. You will be sorry to miss out!

As advertised

Most VRBOs we have stayed at are a little worn around the edges (or worse), but this House was pristine! Well appointed, well stocked, everything worked, and the instructions for electronics were clear and accurate (a rarity). The house was also amazing, with it high ceilings and tasteful decor. Incredibly relaxing mornings and evenings on the front porch overlooking the harbor, and everything in town was an easy walk from the house.

The pictures and descriptions are spot on. BUT….it’s even more incredible in person. We stayed 2 nights to break up our road trip from Oregon to San Francisco. Wish we had more time there. Close to Redwoods and walking distance to local restaurants. Kitchen is well stocked and beds are super comfortable. Hot tub was a bonus for 2 12 year girls. Great Location for Exploring the Redwoods Parks and the Coast

We had a wonderful time staying at this house for a week. The house is very well maintained and has everything that you need for a comfortable visit. We enjoyed our evening dips in the hot tub. The town of Trinidad is very walkable. We did our grocery shopping at Murphy's Market and Katy's Smokehouse (which also has fresh fish for sale). We enjoyed tide pooling on the local beach and hiking on Trinidad Head. There are many parks and beaches within easy driving distance. If you want to kayak, Kayak Trinidad at Big Lagoon was very professional.

A few things about Trinidad Pier
This is a PRIVATE PIER and requires a FISHING LICENSE so be prepared. Since this is a private pier, recognize the fact that pier fishing is of secondary importance to the commercial fishing and boat sport fishing. No one really minds if you fish but stay out of the way and don’t interfere with the customers who make money for the pier operator.

Also be sure to watch for sea otters in the bay. There are quite a few of the playful beasts and they can be quite comical at times. However, I watched a pair one day checking out the skiffs tied down below the pier. They had no trouble getting into the boats and went down the line entering one boat after another. I wondered if they were looking for food (bait) left by the fishermen. As I watched, I also began to think they looked like big rats even though that doesn’t fit the normal stereotype of the species. I am curious as to whether or not they hurt the fishing since the pier has the second lowest rating of the north country piers (in my records).
This is also one of the few piers (in California) where you may occasionally catch one of the red or orange colored rockfish. Small to medium size orange (canary) rockfish and even rosy rockfish have been caught off the end of the pier. Black rockfish are more common and frequently a school will show up by the pier; when that happens the lucky anglers will be assured a bucketful of the fis

Walk toTrinidad Pier
This pier is the northernmost oceanfront pier in the state and sits in one of the state’s most beautiful settings. Just a short drive north of Eureka, the pier gets steady if not necessarily heavy use by pier anglers. Although fishing from the pier is generally only fair, few seem to mind. For most people, especially visitors from southern California, the pier fishing itself is secondary. More visited are the nearby redwood groves and the spectacular coastline. Most anglers come for the seasonal salmon and bottom fishing (including some big lings up by Redding Rock) which is available from skiffs and party boats. However, excellent fishing is also available in the nearby surf for redtail perch and smelt, while coastal lagoons offer a relaxed environment with the occasional trout catch!

The pier is situated in Trinidad Harbor which means it is protected from the most severe storms by the adjacent Trinidad Head.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

We invite you to make your way to Trinidad-by-the-Sea, a unique coastal village that draws visitors from all over the world. Whether, it is for world class fishing, ocean recreation, stunning views, parks, redwoods or to enjoy its quiet North Coast charm. The rich and diverse history and cultural significance of the Trinidad Harbor creates a character all its own. Trinidad Harbor encompasses an ancient Yurok village of "Tsurai", the earliest known inhabitants of Trinidad. It's fleet of commercial and sport fishing boats are nestled behind Trinidad Head, California's last natural harbor in commercial use. The fishing out of Trinidad Harbor plays a critical role to both local tourism and the greater Humboldt County commercial fishing industry. The history of this coastal town goes back many, many years and can be better understood by visiting the Trinidad Museum. Surrounded by lush, alder and redwood-forested bluffs and hills, our coastline, bay, beaches and trails will leave you spellbound with the scenes that unfold around each bend.
Trinidad Lighthouse
Trinidad Head, a large domed prominence rising to a height of 380 feet, is connected to the mainland only on its northern end, thus forming the beautiful and natural Trinidad Bay on its eastern side. On the bluffs overlooking the bay, Trinidad, the oldest town on the northern California coast, was founded on April 8, 1850. Early on, the town was a vital link between ships anchored in the bay and miners testing their luck in the Klamath, Trinity, Salmon River, and Gold Bluff Mines. As the gold rush slowed, Trinidad Bay, like most bays along the Redwood Coast, became home to multiple sawmills. To aid vessels engaged in the lumber trade, a lighthouse was proposed for the ocean-facing side of the headland in 1854.

Trinidad Head Historical Lighthouse
An appropriation for the lighthouse was made in June 1860 and forty-two acres on the southern portion of the headland were purchased in 1866. An incredible sight to see
