Southwest Home on San Antonio River

No, we're not on the RiverWalk but we do have over a mile of San Antonio River frontage. Our home is located in the country away from city noises and congestion. However, we are only 15 minutes from the Riverwalk, Alamo Dome, The Alamo, SBC Center (Home of the San Antonio Spurs), Joe Freeman Coliseum and other exiting places and events in San Antonio. Sea World and Fiesta Texas are only 30 minutes away and Schlitterbaum, America's #1 Water Park is only an hour away. Although our river does not compare to the Comal or Guadalupe for tube floating, those locations are not too far away. So you can still go enjoy the tubing and the crowds and come "home" to peace and quiet and relax in the hot tub.

We are situated on 110 acres with over a mile of San Antonio River frontage. Several nice areas have been cleared for fishing and/or swimming. Hiking and biking have been favorites for many who have stayed here. We are minutes from the Rodeo held in San Antonio every February. We have found many arrow heads and other Indian artifacts on our property.

Jack and I are pleased to have visitors to San Antonio stay in our home. We do live in the house. It is our home. However, when guests are here we stay in our master suite which is a 4th bedroom. We have our own entrance and do not need to share the rest of the house with our guests. It is important that you read the Owner Story and the reviews for more information.

This is a large spacious home (4,200 square feet) with lots of open areas. There is a courtyard in the front of the house, a terrace outside two of the three bedrooms and a large back porch perfect with an adjoining deck for cook-outs and entertaining. There is also a hot tub with access from 2 of the 3 bedrooms.

The large family room has a 70 inch big screen TV with surround sound. The living room has a sofa bed and a 32 inch TV.

Beautiful home, awesome owners.

Had a great time during Fiesta. This was exactly what I was looking for, a spacious country home on a large piece of land a short drive from downtown San Antonio. One day your on the Riverwalk the next you walking on the river looking for arrowheads and fossils. I highly recommend this home!

Great family place

Margaret and Jack were amazing hosts and very helpful. The river is an easy walk to fish or swim. The house is very comfortable and has plenty of space. There are also many games and toys for the kids. My boys loved being out in the woods, but with that comes insects (ants, wasps, scorpions), but that didn’t deter us any. We loved this place and I would definitely stay again!

Amazing property

This was literally my dream home. The owners were very nice and accomodating. We were there for christmas with our family, and they left up their beautiful decorations for our family to enjoy. Relaxing time

House is large and spacious, great for a big family. Property is vast with multiple scenic river spots. Wildlife is abundant, saw lots of turkeys and rabbits. Can hear coyotes at night. House is very well equipped, especially the kitchen . Location seems far out but it’s 25 minutes to almost anywhere in the city . H‑E‑B and Walmart are less than 15 minutes away Hosts were very helpful but also mindful of our privacy . We enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again

Spacious, fun, comfortable and all-around lovely!

The pictures don't do it justice! It is a huge, Spanish-style home with multiple bedrooms and sleeping options, two full bathrooms and one half bath, two living rooms, a breakfast nook, large formal dining room, large kitchen equipped with literally EVERYTHING you could need, fridge and freezer with ice maker, washer and dryer, decks, hot tub, fire pit, private patios, 70inch tv with satellite & Blueray, and a one minute drive to swim or fish on the San Antonio river that flows through their property. Also, LGBTQ-friendly! One consideration is that the owners do live in the house, BUT they stay in their own space, which has it's own entrance, and you would only see them if you happened to be outside at the same time. We're used to staying in a private cabin for our getaways, so this was a bit of a different vibe with having someone live there, but Margaret was so nice and helpful, and we were left to enjoy the space. She assured me we wouldn't disturb them with noise and we could set the A/C to whatever level we preferred. The home is surrounded by woods and outdoor spaces are very well maintained. The roads to get to different spots on the river are easy to navigate. Just be sure to ask Margaret for advice on where to go. They prepared the fire pit for us before we arrived, so we could make hot dogs & smores. The hot tub is large & clean and has a lovely pagoda-type structure overhead. There are lights strung at hot tub and fire pit areas, so you can see at night. Lots of extra pillows, blankets and towels, and they have supplies that can be used for outdoor activities, like extendable sticks for cooking at the firepit, plastic cups, and river towels. Very nice grill on the large deck that you can use charcoal or grill with, but we didn't use that on this trip. Oh and it smells really nice in the house! LOL! I definitely recommend wearing tennis shoes to walk down to the water & also water shoes to wear in the water. Note that the incline down to "Pebble Beach" could be daunting for some, but we are out of shape and managed it. Went fishing and got some nibbles on our lines, but didn't manage to reel any in, but more experienced fishers might have better luck. It was a truly wonderful experience and we are already talking about going back! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a little nature get-away with all the comforts of home. Big thanks to our hosts! :)

What a great get away

We stayed here with our 3 young children and had the best time. Margaret and Jack are wonderful hosts and take so much pride in their home. The property is amazing and we had a blast playing in the river, going on walks in the woods, and having a campfire. Easy to get into town but is a perfect country getaway. Thank you!

Peaceful & Abundant, Low-Key and Organized

We came out to San Antonio for the recent eclipse. Our hosts were amazing, the house is amazing and the property is extraordinary. We walked several times around the grounds on the well-maintained roads and paths so we could get different views of the river. We barbecued out on the deck. We watched the local news for weather and traffic updates in the huge living room. Each room has its own exit to a patio area. The hosts were so helpful to us, and generous with their time, yet completely unobtrusive in any way to our privacy or schedule. I really hope we can go out again and bring the whole family next time.

Great Getaway!

The property is beautiful... secluded, yet located less than 10 minutes away from anything you may need. I know everyone has different preferences but when my husband and I go on vacation, we go to get away from it all. This was perfect! The river is awesome. We spent most of our time in and around it. It's not quite the crystal clear water you might find on other rivers but it's beautiful, regardless. The best part? Unlike those other rivers, you're probably not going to see another soul on it! Felt like we had our own river. The owners do live on site as they clearly state on here. They have their own quarters inside the house, but you're not sharing living space. I know some people might be turned off by that but trust me, you won't even know they're there unless you need them for something. Mr. & Mrs. H are incredibly kind, helpful and knowledgeable about the history of this beautiful property... and there is a lot of history! As soon as our school year is wrapped up, we'll be returning and bringing the kids with us! We can not wait!

Family & Friends with lots of littles

We were able to relax and enjoy ourselves because the home was like staying at a family home. Kitchen stocked for big meals, lots of property for the kids to explore without the worry of other people around, toys/games and toiletries I hadn’t expected to be there, but it was nice to have available. Beautiful Property

We loved our stay! We had plenty of room for our group of 6. This was just what I was looking for. It was great for me and my husband who love to fish, hike, and explore. It also worked well for our friends who don't enjoy nature as much. They were able to relax in the beautiful home or make a short 10 minute trip to town. Home away from home

Wish we would've had more time to enjoy all this home and property have to offer. Owners do live in the same home, which is normally something my husband wouldn't have liked, but they are not at all a bother or invading. Their hospitality is amazing, and we truly appreciated them and their home. It has all you need for a comfortable stay. We have 3 toddlers so there's always something you need for them, be it play pen, toys to keep them entertained, or a high chair and this home has it all. Lord willing, we'll be returning very soon. If you needed some reassurance whether this is the place to book or not, here it is. Thank you, Jack and Margaret!

Home away From Home

This was a special get together with my family of 12 and Margaret and Jack just made it that much more special!!! Beautiful scenery, very peaceful and meets every need you have!!! Very spacious home that makes you feel at home! Seems like it gives you something you have been missing without even knowing that you were! Jack and Margaret enjoy sharing their home with others. We are an elderly couple with 5 children and 14 grandchildren. We have both vaccinated for Covid-19 and we are extremely carefully about sanitizing our home before and after our guests come and go.

We actually live in the house. It is our home. However, when guests are here we stay in our master suite (a 4th bedroom). We have our own entrance to and from the house. We have our own bathroom and kitchen and do not need to share any of the rest of the house with our guests. We are here for you but we do not interfere with your activities at all. We love having families here.

Located on 110 acres with the San Antonio River as a border on one side, we are in the country yet only 8 miles from Brooks City Base where you find restraurants, shopping, banks, gas, hospital - everything you need.

We are within 25 minutes (more or less) of Lackland AFB and Ft. Sam Houston.

We are blessed with all kinds of wildlife. The Cardinals frequent our back yard. You can hear the Owls at dusk and the Peacock sounds off on a nightly basis. When walking the trails you might see squirrels, racoons, wild turkeys and wild hogs. The river provides a haven for ducks and has given up quite a bit of catfish, perch and bass.
