Our property “Haus Sassenhof”/“Haus Hohe Lucht,” featuring five comfortable and cozy vacation apartments and an equally cozy vacation home, is located in the wonderfully idyllic farming village of Dunum, in the immediate vicinity of the North Sea resort of Esens-Bensersiel on the East Frisian North Sea coast. Here you’ll find the perfect setting for a wonderful and relaxing vacation in East Frisia.

Our five vacation apartments range in size from approximately 65 to 85 square meters and offer plenty of space for up to four or six people. Four of the five vacation apartments are located in “Haus Sassenhof.”

In the “Hohe Lucht” vacation home, which is approximately 185 square meters in size, you can enjoy your vacation with eight people plus two additional toddlers.

Our property, featuring the “Sassenhof” and “Hohe Lucht” houses, is located away from the tourist hustle and bustle of the North Sea resorts on the North Sea coast. Here, you can take wonderful walks through the countryside and enjoy the nature and fresh air of East Frisia. And yet, you can get there in no time by car or ride your bike to the coast. The fresh air you’ll breathe along the way is the wholesome, salty North Sea air!

Our property offers plenty of space for the whole family. So there are plenty of opportunities for the kids to play, for adults to relax and sunbathe, or for the whole family to have a barbecue.

Dunum is a small village located away from the main roads. Nevertheless, you can reach the coast by car in about ten minutes. The neighborhoods and farms in Dunum are spread out over a large area. We offer you an unforgettable vacation with games of Boßel, barbecue evenings at the village sports field, folk theater, carriage rides, and group biking and hiking tours.

Dunum is centrally located with excellent transportation connections to all tourist destinations in East Frisia. It’s not far to the coast and thus to the tourist and spa facilities, such as the North Sea health resorts of Esens-Bensersiel or Neuharlingersiel. However, you don’t have to pay a visitor’s tax here. We only offer the “Nordsee-ServiceCard” (spa card) if it’s worth it for you.

Around Dunum, you’ll find the authentic East Frisian hedgerow landscape, extensive wetlands with beautiful and fascinating flora and fauna, and a large forest teeming with wildlife. You’ll be amazed at how often, while cycling along the side roads and bike paths, you’ll be able to spot numerous wild animals in the meadows and fields at dusk.

According to an old legend, the grave of the Frisian king Radbod lies beneath Dunum’s “Radbodsberg.” He was the only chieftain to unite all the Frisian tribes and win a historic victory against the Norsemen. Our old 13th-century brick church is also a special attraction.

The East Frisia Hiking Trail runs right through Dunum and, by bike, offers you the healthiest route to the North Sea—to the coastal and North Sea spas or to the dike. To help you explore, we’ve prepared a biking and hiking map for you here in Dunum. Our location is ideal for walks, bike rides, and all kinds of explorations of East Frisia’s unique and diverse natural landscape. Enjoy an active yet relaxing vacation by the North Sea and make the most of the North Sea’s invigorating climate.

On the way to the beach in nearby Bensersiel, you’ll pass through the old knight’s town of Esens north of Dunum. There, children can enjoy the “Klabautermann” indoor play park, while adults have a wide range of dining, shopping, and leisure options to choose from.

The North Sea spa town of Bensersiel has plenty to offer for sports, recreation, and play—for example, the harbor leading to the island of Langeoog, the beach, the beach portal with the covered play area “Bennis Abenteuerland,” swimming pools, tennis courts, surfing spots along the dike, fitness facilities, beach volleyball, fishing opportunities, and much more.

Speaking of swimming pools: While in Bensersiel, don’t miss a visit to the seawater outdoor pool with its giant slide and the “Nordseetherme Bensersiel” water park—a modern, heated fun and leisure pool for the whole family featuring a large indoor slide with a panoramic view. The therapy center (including all spa facilities) as well as a modern wellness, sauna, and fitness center are also located there.

The North Sea spa town of Neuharlingersiel is also very close by. Neuharlingersiel is a 300-year-old fishing village with an active fleet of crab boats. In the beautiful historic fishing harbor, East Frisian fishing is still actively practiced today by many crab boats. There is a wide range of tourist attractions for your vacation:

The beach with the fantastic “Platschi” water play area, the new, modern “BadeWerk” spa and wellness center with a seawater indoor pool and sauna facilities, as well as the Kurhaus, Kursaal, an information center with the “Leuchttürmchen” children’s playhouse, the Sielhof as the “Haus des Gastes,” green spaces, events, a lovingly maintained historic harbor, and much more.

And don’t forget to take your children to visit the petting zoo—extremely popular with the little ones—in the old and cozy village of Warfendorf Werdum!

From Dunum, you can easily reach all the many destinations and sights that East Frisia has to offer. Take a boat to the East Frisian islands or, for example, explore beautiful old chieftain seats like Dornum, Greetsiel, or Lütetsburg with their associated castles and palaces. You should also “stumble upon” the friendly and cozy towns of East Frisia—for example, it’s not far to Aurich, Jever, or Leer. A special and rich artistic treat is the Nannen Museum in Emden, founded by Henri Nannen, the founder of the magazine “Stern.”

Other worthwhile destinations include the many mills, museums, exhibitions, and other cultural highlights, as well as the diverse fauna found in East Frisia’s geologically unique combination of marsh, geest, and moor. And don’t forget the “Ewige Meer” (Eternal Sea), a nature reserve right in our neighborhood featuring a large moor lake and a unique array of flora and fauna.
