Podpec: Country Cottage in the countryside with absolute privacy

The small house made of stone of granny Maria is located in the small carsic village of Podpeč, in the slovenian Istria. Built in the XV century under the Kraški rob and renewed in 2000.
In her three rooms there is enough space up to four persons, in a perfect environment for the lovers of beauty, nature and culture of our ancestors.
The quietness, the vegetation and the flowers surround this "sleeping beauty".
Furnished with care in an old way (poor art) with handmade pieces coming from different places we love (Istria, Slovenia, Bosnia, Serbia, Sicily,...); the combination of modern and restored objects make it comfortable and nifty.
The big garden, equipped with chairs, table and sunbeds is perfect to enjoy a good meal or just relax.

Podpec' house is a dream to stay, it is located between mountains and the sea. It is peaceful and cozy. The owners Neva and Alfio are amazing people: kind, supportive, easy to deal with.I hope I will have a chance to be back.

Beautiful and peaceful retreat

Lovely garden, special house, well situated for Slovenian coastal places as well as Triest. Very friendly and helpful owners.

Quaint little cottage

Much care is taken for this little home. The garden is beautiful and peaceful. The location is close to many places to adventure. The host was very welcoming.

Wonderful house

The unique house, the location and our landlord Neva and her husband has been wonderful. We enjoyed every day staying in the real amazing and with love decorazed house and garden. Neva told us nice spots to go to and every conversation was with much fun and a great pleasure.

"I highly recommend the stay in this country cottage to the one who is looking for special place, restful ambient and quiet corner. This is extraordinary place with magic atmosphere at "the end of the word". But with very good access to a lot of interesting places of Slovenia as well as see side. Hospitable and friendly owners make the stay unforgettable."

A wonderful visit!

My wife and I travel often and we have never received a more warm and hospitable welcome than from Neva and her husband. The house is amazing, built in the 1500’s and nicely updated. The location is convenient to explore the area and in a small cute town high on a hill. We made new friends during our visit and it was one of the highlights of our trip. I highly recommend if you are looking for a central home base for a few days and would like to meet some wonderful people.

"For a special holidayhom...

"For a special holidayhome with a nice view over the countryside you have to go to this place. It's a isolated silence place with nice nature, a lot of privacy and if necessary very kind helpfull owners. The coast with it's nice cities is only 15km away and the roads are good. So if you need some privated time or you want to see Istria you have to go to this place. A car is needed. Pascal and Marina (the Netherlands)"

Lovely Stay In Adorable House

We stayed in Podpec for circa two weeks and we can honestly say that it was one of the best experiences with a vacation rental we ever had. The place is a lovely, old stone house which has a lot of charme and everything you need, including a beautiful little garden. It's a perfect place for nature lovers. There is a lot to see in the surroundings from nature to culture. And our host Neva could recommend so many great places that we were barely able to them all! But everything we could do was a hit. Thank you for taking such good care of us! She also said best time to visit would be May/June. Something we'll keep in mind because we will surely be back.Kind regards from GermanyCarmen, Andreas, Florian and dog Alf!

The unique features and qualities of this beautiful, lovingly restored and furnished stone house have already been described very accurately on several comments. We would like to mention the special characteristics of the village of Podpec, to which Neva is deeply committed. A particular highlight is the story of the restoration of the medieval village church, to which Neva made a significant contribution. It's wonderful to see what personal dedication can achieve and how a village can reconnect with its roots through such efforts.Listening to Nevas stories and experiences made it easy to feel connected to that special place in Slovenia.Thank you very much, Neva and Alfio!

Unusual but charming

A property with a lot of history and character. Wonderful welcome from Neva and Alfio with a delicious supper on our first night. The gardens were fascinating with a wide range of herbs, vegetables and flowers - to which were encouraged to help ourselves. Neva is a wonderful host who is proud of her village and heritage which she is keen to share. She is very much involved with village life and regeneration. The accomodation is quirky but comfortable. It is near a railway line but we were not disturbed. Overall a peaceful rural environment

"The house was nice, clea...

"The house was nice, clean, and in a quiet area. It is in a rural environment but very close to the city and to the sea. It is so well placed, that you can spend one day visiting coast villages, reserve another one just for walking and visiting beautiful churches and another one going to Ljubiana. Italy, Croatia and Slovenia are merged here. And of course, you can enjoy "real vegetables and fruits", not the ones that are sold in common supermarkets. Forget about TV, radio or other telecommunications here. The house is just for relaxing and to forget about our daily lifes. It is small, but cute and make you feel confortable. And the hosts are great. Fully recommended."

Best of both worlds

As we drove the last back lanes into Podpec we wife described this as "the middle of nowhere". Among the beautiful garden, in such a special house and in a town where no one seems to have built a new house for a few hundred years - it's true, in the nicest way. But it's also the centre of everywhere. Within half an hour by car and you can be swimming in Italy, dinning in Trieste, wandering around Piran, shopping in Koper or exploring huge cave systems. A little more time and there's Croatia not to mention the rest of Slovenia. But whatever we saw or did, we always looked forward to returning to an evening meal from the BBQ on the old stone and among the flowering plants. We stayed 10 days but if that was 10 weeks I think Neva could have still been telling us places to see, Thanks Neva and Alfio.

Perfect Vacation in Podpec

My husband and I have stayed in Podpec for one week.The house was exactly as we found and saw it on the website. The garden is beautiful! It was big enough for the both of us. We only used the bathroom on the ground floor,so there is still place. The hosting was perfect and we felt really comfortable.We had time for us,but also could go to Neva and her husband if we need help,had questions or just wanted to talk :) From the house you can do a lot of hikings.You can directly start from the house and can hike to the castle you see on the picture.There you have a beautiful view over the ocean and the hills. We did three hiking tours around 15-20 km and they all have been interesting and needed normal condition. There are churches to visit,caves,historical monuments and it is very close to the border of Italy and Croatia. The ocean is 20-30 minutes away with the car. There are also many restaurants but you have to drive there,because it’s too far (minimum 1 hour) to walk. You have everything you need to cook at yourself in the house. Thank you Neva for the beautiful week :)

"Un entorno muy bonito, tranquilo y agradable para los amantes de la naturaleza y el mundo rural.La casa es muy bonita y acogedora. Tienes montaña y mar. Los propietarios son una gente muy abierta, amables, los cuales nos hicieron sentir como en casa y compartir su amistad. Heel gezellig huisje, bijna ingericht als een museum met mooie authentieke details. Je kan zien dat het met veel zorg gerestaureerd is. Prachtig verzorgde tuin met vele bloemen, vruchten en kruiden waar je heerlijk kan zitten van ‘s morgens vroeg tot ‘s avonds laat. Je slaapt heerlijk want ondanks de warmte buiten, gemiddeld 30 graden, is het ‘s nachts lekker koel doordat alle ramen open kunnen omdat ze allemaal voorzien zijn van horren. Wat ook fijn is, is dat de auto in een garage geparkeerd staat waardoor deze koel blijft.Het huisje ligt in een afgelegen dorpje maar toch dichtbij allerlei toeristische attracties. Je geniet van de privacy, het uitzicht en de lekkernijen verstrekt door de host, die ook veel tips heeft voor o.a. de omgeving en restaurants.

Nous avons passé une excellente semaine dans cette maison. La maison est magnifique et très bien décorée. Le jardin est superbe également ! L’endroit est très calme et invite à la détente ! Il y a de beaux sentiers de randonnée à proximité, et bien que le village soit reculé, il est très facile de rejoindre la côte slovene, la Croatie, la vallée de la Vipava ainsi que Ljubljana. Et enfin, le meilleur est l’accueil de Neva et son mari qui ont eu pleins de belles attentions et de conseils de visite pour que notre séjour se passe au mieux !
Vue sur le village de Podpec depuis la montagne. 20 min de marche depuis le gîte en direction de la Tour.

Ein Ort voller Geschichte und Herzlichkeit...Unser Aufenthalt in dem über 500 Jahre alten Ferienhaus in Podpeč war ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis. Neva hat das Haus und den Garten mit Liebe zum Detail gestaltet und eine Atmosphäre geschaffen, in der man sich sofort willkommen fühlt.Besonders bereichernd waren die Gespräche mit Neva über die Geschichte des Hauses und des Dorfes. Die Lage ist ideal für Ausflüge ans Meer, nach Kroatien oder Italien. Auch das nahegelegene Höhlensystem Škocjan ist absolut beeindruckend und definitiv einen Besuch wert. Danke Neva und Alfio für diesen rundum gelungenen Aufenthalt, der Geschichte, Natur und Gastfreundschaft perfekt vereinte!
