The great location, the only 1 bedroom condo at Paniolo Hale on the ocean, is unsurpassed. I am surprised that during your one month stay you never contacted me about some of your observations, instead waiting more than a month to prepare this review. The $ 1500 security deposit is an option, and an alternative $59 premium for an insurance policy against any damage, is offered. Most people opt for that, because it provides coverage to the owner and the guest for any accidental damage that might happen. The one month guest that followed in January, has stayed in other units in past years, and chose this one for his stay, He liked it well enough to rebook for next year, and wanted to add another month, but it isn't available. He also used to own a unit at Paniolo Hale, and sold it last year, preferring to rent. The owners have been updating the property over time, as their budget allows.. The kitchen is their next project, and it will take some time, and it is hard to find an open time in their calendar to allow for it to be done without some long range planning. The living sofa just had new down filled cushions done, and it has made it much more comfortable. For many guests, they found it very satisfying there directly on the ocean, and we have had several repeat guests each year.

It wasn't until I received this review that I realized there were issues with this unit that the guest was not happy with. A couple of days after arriving, I received an e mail saying only that they would be leaving the unit early. I sent back a response asking why they were leaving, and received no response until i saw the review 3 weeks later. Had they shared their unhappiness with the unit, we may have been able to address some of the issues mentioned. It isn't helpful to us when a guest does not let us know about their concerns when they arrive. We have guests who return every year to this unit, and one that comes back twice a year. The unit had been empty for a couple of weeks so it is possible there were some unwanted insects that can be much more active in the Summer months. The condo association has a regular schedule of pest treatments during the year. I am sorry that they became a problem and just wished they had let us know.
