Just 20 min. from downtown Chattanooga, this 5 bedroom 5.5 bath home is located high atop Walden's Ridge near Signal Mountain and The Tennessee River. Gorgeous Mountain Retreat is complete with wrap around decks, indoor and outdoor fireplace, Full Kitchen, Dining, and Living Space and all the amenities to ensure you never want to leave! The Game & Movie Room on the lower level provides plenty of entertainment for the kids and kids at heart in your group! High ceilings and exposed beam work create a warm open lodge atmosphere.

WE DO NOT ALLOW pets AT THIS LISTING under any circumstances. This includes service dogs.

Rates are based on an occupancy of 8 persons. Additional charge of $15 per additional guest per night apply.

Be sure to check out listings #1280202 and # 920261, Serene Mountain Retreat and Sparrows Nest. These quaint cabins are the sister properties to Gorgeous Mountain Retreat and can be rented in combination with Gorgeous Mountain Retreat for large reunions and/or retreats.

Parking for guest renting Gorgeous Mountain Retreat ONLY is limited to 4 cars. Please do not park on the grass or pull through the yard.

Delayed family Christmas

A great property for our three generation family Christmas in January. There was even a beautifully decorated tree in the living room. With three levels, there was plenty of space for eight adults and three toddlers. The fireplace was an added bonus

Christmas on the mountain

We had a wonderful stay at this mountain house. We were close enough to the downtown Chattanooga area to go do things, but far enough away to be in a quiet area.

Great getaway!

Beautiful home tucked away on a mountain road. Nicely decorated, well stocked, comfortable beds and a great fireplace with wood provided, all made for a wonderful stay to catch up with long time friends.

Lovely stay

We enjoyed the kitchen as well as eating in Chattanooga at some nice restaurants. It was about a 30 minute drive and we spent a lot of time in the city. The house was very comfortable. All the beds and bathrooms were well equipped and nicely done. We played some of the board games that were provided by our host and had a wonderful time!

Refreshed and renewed

What a great place to be still and reflect. Quiet, peaceful and yet close enough to get out and enjoy nature and the city. Highly recommend this place.

Relaxing Retreat

We thoroughly enjoyed this property and were able to relax and have some fun after exploring Chattanooga! The house was clean and there was something for everyone to do (games, good furniture to relax in, etc). Our family really enjoyed playing frisbee outside in the evenings! We were disappointed there was no hottub (it was still in the lsiting when we booked but there werent pictures, so I assume its been gone for a while but it is listed in the amenities still, just in case it happens to nyone else! Pur toddler thoroughly dnjoyed the very large bathtub upstairs and "swam" in it most evenings! Thank you for opening upur lovely home up, it was a wonderful visit and your attention to the little details affed so much to the gorgeous property!

Perfect for Family Vacation

We had a family vacation with 7 adults and 4 children. Everyone had ample space, the kids enjoyed playing outside and with the provided games. Host responded quickly to small issue and corrected it.

Simply the best stay we've ever had and the nicest hosts

So let me start off by saying I got the dates wrong for for our stay. The hosts were so accommodating and kind and trying to work with us. He's probably the only reason my wife and I are still talking:-) their home is absolutely gorgeous and one of the nicest areas of Chattanooga. If I could have I would have stayed a month. The home was clean very, very well equipped, and gave you a sense of Mountain life with all the amenities.

27th Year & Counting!

This is our 27th year (28 stays) for our family beginning with our parents, my 4 siblings and their spouses. We have continued on with the tradition started in 1997 after our last parent passed in 2010 by expanding our destinations beyond a 4-5 hour drive from greater Cincinnati. Susan was a tremendous host and was extremely responsive in addressing our needs. The home was well suited for our now 7 (3 couples and one widower) except when we were preparing meals, then the kitchen got a little tight but overall the place was as-described. The earlier reviews helped in selecting this place and the location on top of Signal Mountain was breathtaking (though the views across the street were blocked by mature trees. Everything was within 30-40 minutes away: downtown Chattanooga, sites on Lookout Mountain, Micro-breweries and Distilleries but not being local to the area, going up/down the mountain meant earlier evenings which didn't bother us at all since we cook breakfast/dinner in. We would have wanted to take advantage of the built-in outdoor fireplace but the weather was a little too warm for us to enjoy. The side porch was an early morning and evening place to gather as a family to discuss the day's events as well as "just catching up" with each other and their families. My wife and I are planning on returning to the Skagg's home on Signal Mtn. with our daughter, grand/greatgrand children next year. The local haunts: Rock City, Ruby Falls, Incline are all worth visiting

House in the clouds

The house was really nice, and owners tried to fix issues. However, we couldn't use the bottom level do to caterpillars/worms every where. We kept sweeping them up but they just kept coming and headed upstairs. They tried to fix a mysterious leak, and we had to go from level 1 to level 3 to use bathroom with the worms:( The dishwasher and oven were filthy, and house wasn't cleaned the best either. The dishwasher had food in it and no dishes in it, so I don't know why it was dirty? It showed a view from the master suite, but no view.

Big Fork Cabin

The property is spacious with 5 bedrooms. Bathrooms lack vanity space and the main floor bathroom sink needs updating. The size worked for our family. The owner was very nice and helpful with any issues we had.

Perfection in the mountains

This is our second stay at the property. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. It’s perfect for a group. Host is very responsive and helpful. All of their efforts are very much appreciated. It’s a beautiful place.

Relaxing and Spacious

Our family loved it! Each bedroom had their own bathroom! Camp feeling but house amenities. Wish we had more time to explore the area as many locals played in the creek / water area leading up to the house. Great communication beforehand - they gave us a list of items to do and answered questions. We also loved the porch and fireplace! There were a lot of wood bees on the porch …. They didn’t bother us but kids were a bit skiddish.

Close to the road and other houses

This property is not as secluded as it appears in the pictures. We didn’t ask if there were close neighbors, so that’s on us. House is very close to the road and other houses. Beds are comfortable and house is spacious.

The perfect family atmosphere

Wonderful time

Our visit here was really nice. The cabin was clean and well furnished. It was a kitchen and living area was smaller than anticipated from the pictures. We had 11 perks. So we could not all get around the table easily nor we we all sit together in the living area. Sleeping area were great. Plenty of beds and bathrooms. We had a fire two nights and there was wood available. Easy access to local grocery and Walmart. We enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic Family Getaway

Overall, we were very pleased by our stay here. The location was great, the home is gorgeous, and the host communicated greatly. The only downside to the stay was that the property furniture needed a little fixing. Just a damaged chair here and there that we had to be careful not to use. The host said they’d address those things so I think this issue will be cleared up for future guests.

Would love to stay here again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The home is beautiful, cozy, clean and even prettier than we expected! It’s a great property for families, and we enjoyed each room having its own bathroom. The fireplaces were nice, and the home had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again!

great multi-generational getaway

We very much enjoyed our stay here! The property was great for our 3-generation family vacation. We had a bedroom on the main floor (good for grandparents who don't like steps), bunk beds with space and games for the teens in the basement, and two really spacious bedrooms upstairs for the others. We appreciated a dining table big enough for all of us, and several board games, cards, etc. were available. The kitchen was very small but pretty well equipped. It had a large open space into the living room, so the kitchen did not feel isolating. The house is a solid 20 min. from Chattanooga. It came with only a "starter" amount of dish detergent, soap, etc., and getting extra was a bit of a pain because of the distance to town. We originally didn't have enough forks for all 9 of us, but the owner brought more. She was lovely, friendly, very welcoming. The old hardwood floors have a few spots with odd spaces between the boards. I wore socks all the time, and it was fine. We very much enjoyed the large wraparound porch, which has multiple seating options, an outdoor checkers game, and even a fireplace (which we didn't use on our summer trip). Would I stay here again? Absolutely!

Beautiful and Comfy

This was a wonderful cabin for us, our children, and grandchildren. It had everything we needed. Each of the 5 bedrooms had its own bathroom, plus an additional half bath on the main level. There was some confusion over what was the correct wifi password and check out time. I feel very lucky to have found this place.

Gorgeous Mountain Retreat

The name says it all....we so enjoyed our stay at this property! More than enough room for the six of us! We each stayed on different floors so we had time together but also had space to have some privacy too. We went to Ruby Falls, Rock City and rode the incline....all of which I would recommend. Our best memories, tho, are of our family time at the cabin. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home!

Family Retreat

This is the first time since the start of COVID that our family has been able to go on a nice extended weekend retreat. A great cabin and location. Spent the mornings on the front porch, afternoons in Chattanooga, back to the porch for the cool evenings and late-night games at the large dining table. It was truly an enjoyable trip. Look forward to returning in the future.

Large cabin on the hill

We were a group of 9 —siblings and spouses gathering for a reunion. The house was spacious enough for us but would not have been adequate for the 11 we were originally planning for. The pictures on VRBO made the rooms appear larger than they actually were. Each bedroom had a bath/shower and that was appreciated. The dining table would not have accompanied 11.
