Enjoy Tango From 9th Floor Of Historical Building w/ 24-hr Security. 3+ Bedrooms
Location, sweeping views, high ceilings and light make this apartment stand out. It is on the 9th floor of a 15-story historic building (two units per floor). The building is historic because it was one of the first high-rises to be built in the neighborhood of belgrano in the 1950's. Architectural students are occasionally found sketching the building from the park across the street.
The park across the street is the well-known Barrancas de Belgrano, taking up 3 city blocks. Locals flock to the gazebo in front of the apartment on Sunday evenings year-round to dance tango. Enjoy the music and the view of the dancers every night during the Summer and weekends throughout the year -- or go ahead and join them downstairs for an early lesson and dancing.
Across the park is a train station. Two stops in one direction and you are at Retiro, walking distance to the famous Florida Street shopping in downtown Buenos Aires. Ride the train to the end of the line in the other direction and you'll find yourself in the Tigre delta, a major weekend getaway for the Argentines, with it's water taxis, amusement park, and diverse restaurants scattered throughout the dozens and dozens of islands that make up the delta.
The apartment is located "commercial" Belgrano (Belgrano C, not to be confused with neighboring residential Belgrano, or Belgrano R). Most of the old mansions from the 40's and 50's have been torn down and replaced with high-rises in this neighborhood, although a walk down some of the less commercial streets will surprise you with old homes that are still standing, many of which have been converted to embassies. There are two main commercial streets that give the commercial name to the neighborhood. These are juramento and cabildo. You will find anything you could possibly need on these two streets. At the intersection of the two, about 6 blocks from the apartment, is the subway (subte d line). There is a supermarket one block away from the apartment, a drugstore 1.5 blocks away, and numerous restaurants and ice cream shops within walking distance. On weekends, the Belgrano Square (5 blocks away) has a craft fair with local artisans selling their goods and often local performers will provide entertainment for a tip in their hat at the end of the show. Also within a short walk away is a movie theater, playgrounds, museums and children's theater. A slightly longer walk will take to you bowling or, in the opposite direction, to the tip of the sprawling palermo park with boating, ducks, jogging trails, golf, etc.
The apartment itself could be considered a 4-bedroom, but two of the rooms were joined to make a large master. The master bedroom was converted to have a study or office attached to it and has since been converted into a children's room. There is still a large desk in the attached room, but there’s also an upper bunk, a trundle bed, and a futon in the children's room, along with some games and children's books. The children's bedroom shares the master bath with the master bedroom. The 2nd bedroom in the back has a double bed and it shares a small bathroom with the 3rd bedroom, which has a twin bed and a desk.
The gourmet kitchen is large and practical, fully equipped with a dishwasher, electric oven, microwave, gas stove, and enough plates/dishes/glasses/utensils for 6 people. Belgrano is not yet a top tourist attraction like Palermo, Recoleta or San Telmo, but it's a chance to live like the middle- to upper-class Argentines, in a neighborhood that's charming and convenient to the rest of the city.

Acerca del anfitrión
Anfitrión: Nadine Leonard

I am an American who has lived in Italy, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina. I lived in this apartment with my Argentine husband for almost 12 years and especially love the familiarity of the neighborhood.
Por qué eligió esta propiedad
As a child growing up in Argentina, my husband always dreamed of living in Belgrano. The moment we walked in to this apartment, we both said "this is it". The high ceilings, light, openness, and location made it an easy decision. And that was before we knew about tango in the gazebo, and relatively new Chinatown across the park! The public transportation is another huge benefit, as we chose not to own a car when we lived in Buenos Aires. There is no need for one, with buses, trains, taxis, and the subway nearby. The hop-on-hop-off double-decker tourist bus even passes right by the park!
Qué distingue a esta propiedad
When we moved in over a decade ago, the river was in clear view from our living room window. Construction and development have slowly stolen our view of the water, but the park in front continues to provide entertainment from our living room. Tango, ethnic festivals, farmer's markets, or fireworks from the nearby River stadium on big game days make us feel a real part of the city. The building itself is a piece of history. My husband recalled the many mansions of Belgrano from his childhood, and he also remembered when this building was built, towering over the park with its sweeping views of Buenos Aires. Today it is dwarfed by the more modern highrises, but continues to hold its charm and its place in the charming neighborhood of Belgrano.
