Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines

This is a lovely house in a quiet location just a short drive from Argelès-sur-Mer. The house is well maintained and was spacious enough for the 5 of us to have plenty of room. The communication from the owner was excellent and even when we had a small issue with the dishwasher they had it fixed within a day. Highly recommended and we would definitely visit again.

Fantastic Villa. Very clean had all the amenities. Great for visiting this area of France. The only issue we had was the broken water feature in the garden had a hornets nest. I got stung on our first day. The garden and upstairs balcony were unusable due to the amount of hornets circulating. They particularly liked the aircon unit on the balcony.

Thanks for the lovely comments re the villa. Sorry to hear about tue hornets nest.. Our gardener had it safely removed when it was spotted a couple of weeks ago. The water feature never pumps any water and is only decorative. The upstairs balcony is now free of any nearby flying wasps. Many thanks again.

Southern France in July is difficult. Our requirements (family of four): strategic location (get there quickly, get away quickly), three bedrooms, good AC, decent kitchen, barbecue, no hussle, quite neighbourhood, short drive to a good beach and acceptable value for money, of course. This nice property had a full score, even though the drive to Plage de la Marende North End, which is definitely the best beach in the area, was 20 minutes. Ok then. The house has a nice division with a fine kitchen, living room and terrace plus one bedroom and two toilets on the ground floor, and two bedrooms, an additional bathroom and balcony upstairs. The whole thing is not super-modern or state-of-the-art equipped, and we were sweeping and cleaning a little bit on arrival, but we felt comfortable right from the first moment and that never changed during our 9-night stay. It is a terraced house with fences on the left and right, so don't expect a lot of space outside. The location in a residential area and a rather dull surrounding is not really sparkling, but the neighbours are nice, there is an interesting abbey, the inevitable boulangerie and typical "place" at the center of the village, and a lot of things that could really annoy you are simply not there. Plus, contact with the owner was remarkably quick and friendly. Would we come back? Sure! Is it recommendable? Yes, it is.

Disappointing stay

Location and size of property is ideal. However the condition of the property was incredibly disappointing. Everything is very dated and falling apart, my husband had to several times fix things himself such as kitchen doors falling off the hinges. The tumble dryer does work at all. Upstairs bathroom shower temperature doesn’t change. The property has incredible potential if time and care is invested into it. Overall it’s overpriced and falsely advertised on the condition it is at. The front door lock broke and upon communicating that with the owners we had to waste a whole day for someone to come and repair it. The list of work for the property to be in rental condition is endless and we’re very disappointed with the condition and communication from the owners.

Thanks for these comments. To be clear, the tumble dryer was replaced brand new within 48 hours; the front door lock which never required any repairs before was fixed within 48 hours / our caretaker offered to stay at the property to supervise the repair but this was declined as guests preferred to stay in villa that day due to rain. The kitchen door has now also been replaced after a fault my hinge was exposed after the stay. We remain extremely confident that the villa was in excellent condition before your stay and has now been returned to its top top condition afterwards. Many thanks for your comments.
