A Moveable Feast on Amazing Grace II

Amazing Grace II is a 50 foot sloop built by Beneteau in France to Bureau Veritas standards. The design is taken from from an original Bruce Farr design. Bruce Farr designs many racing sailboats and his designs are fast, especially off the wind.
If you are a sailor you will appreciate the fast and responsive sail plan and hull shape that combine to make fast passages with a sea kindly motion. AG II draws only 6 feet, so can anchor in fairly tight spots.
She is fast and fun to sail on inter-island passages and her twin wheel steering set up makes it easy for novices to take a turn at the wheel, as well as giving walk through access to the stern and dinghy area. Her well protected cockpit and isinglass screens mean you can sit outside in almost any weather without layering up with protective clothing while still getting protection from the tropical sun and enjoying the view.
A swim platform and ladder off the stern provides easy access for a swim after a day's sail, and a fresh water rinse outlet is right next to the swim platform.
There is plenty of space on deck to spread out a towel and sunbathe or sit up forward and watch an island slowly grow larger while the boat slices through the waves.
A master cabin forward provides a queen size pullman berth, settee and writing desk, with a separate shower and toilet, 2 wash basins and lots of ventilation from 4 hatches and 4 opening ports.
Midships there is a large 3 burner stove galley, fridge and freezer and a central island for prepping food. There is storage below for pots and pans and utensils.
Aft there are 2 more queen size berth cabins, one for the captain, each with their own toilet and shower. There are lights, reading lights and fans in each cabin and good ventilation from numerous hatches.

Best vacation EVER!

What a great adventure we had with Alex! He was wonderful with communicating and expectations. It was like being on a boat with a friend. Each morning we were welcomed with coffee and a delicious breakfast. Alex gave us opportunities to go explore on land and sea. We were blessed to stay with him for 5 nights and got to see all sorts of beaches, snorkel in some of the best spots, dine and explore St. Barths, rest and relax on the boat and do exactly what we wanted to do. We even went with him to take a Salsa Class on St. Martin! Alex is a blessing and not only did we come home well rested, but with a new friend. Thank you, Alex, for a great trip!

Amazing ride!

Amazing Grace II is a beautiful well maintained sailboat. The captain, Alex is a very easy going relaxed host that will make your stay or sail an enjoyable experience. The boat was exceptionally clean and comfortable. It’s doesn’t get much better than spending time on the Blue Waters of the Caribbean. I am looking forward to joining Alex and Amazing Grace II again. Wonderful Experience with a Great Captain

This trip was made special by Alex with his scholarly knowledge of sailing and the islands we visited. He knew where to go, what to see, and how to best experience many beautiful and authentic locations in St. Martin, Anguilla, and St. Barths. The boat was clean, comfortable and well stocked for our stay - perfect for our family of four. Breakfast and lunch on board were a treat each day. We enjoyed a cup of fresh French press coffee and breakfast while overlooking lovely islands and their harbours and then headed onto land for sightseeing and beach time. Sailing was peaceful and restorative to the soul. It was a great experience, and Alex was a gracious host and an excellent captain. We will definitely be re-booking!

Amazing host! Incredible adventure.

Our family of 4 (two children aged 2 and 4 plus mom and dad) had our very first sailing adventure with host extraordinare Captain Alex. We spend 5 nights aboard amazing grace 2 and thoroughly enjoyed out stay. All expectations were exceeded and we would recommend the sailing option to everyone. Alex is an experienced sailor and savvy cook too! We enjoyed our chats with Alex and are so thankful for all he did to make our stay truly enjoyable. Looking back I'm so glad we decided to bring our girls on board for such an awesome adventure. Kudos to Alex and thank you! We have memories to last a life time.

Fantastic whether you are experienced at sailing or a complete beginner, such as my wife and myself.

Alex, the owner, was an extremely exceptional host. The wife and I are clueless on the water but Alex is very nice and welcoming. In addition to having flexibility to decide where and what to do Alex is quite the tour guide. Very informed about the Caribbean, culture and local customs. This can be a great relaxing way to begin a vacation after a long flight. Highly recommended.

Acerca del anfitrión

Alex's first introduction to sailing in the Caribbean was a two handed delivery of a 24 foot sailboat to Antigua from the English Channel, many years ago. The idea of going back to the dreary northern winter after that adventure was unthinkable and soon he and his mate were running a Bertram sport fishing boat in the remote and very quiet island of St Barthelemy. After some years of living in the Caribbean and because of the people he had met along the way, he moved to Nantucket Island, got married and raised a family. Little did he know that once the lure of Caribbean life gets in your blood, it is impossible to ignore it's constant call. After numerous deliveries from New England to the Caribbean and back, in many different sailboats, Alex bought his own sailboat and ventured south east, often via Bemuda, to the eastern Caribbean. When he is not sailing he is often engaged in electrical and electronic repairs on other vessels. His hobbies are cooking, sailing, exploring other parts of the world, photography and writing. He enjoys meeting new people and showing them some of the joys and delights of the boating life and the world as seen from the deck of a sailboat. He also teaches Tai-Chi and Q'igong on an informal basis to those interested in these extraordinary life enhancing and deceptively simple techniques. For those interested in modern day Shamanism, he also leads ceremonial fires, where each participant has the opportunity to silently commune with their spirit ancestors, nature, and the entire cosmos by using the fire as a receptacle for either manifesting new ideas or burning old and unwanted energetic patterns.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

The idea of A Moveable Feast is to give you an opportunity to explore this part of the Eastern Caribbean, relax, eat well and healthily, swim, sunbathe, dine out, cook in, snorkel, lay on the beach, sleep late, snooze when you feel like it, sail the boat, help lift the anchor and hoist the mainsail and just generally enjoy life on the water. The views from the boat are always interesting and usually pleasing to the eye and the soul. Marigot is a busy anchorage and boats are coming and going at all hours. Charter boats, private boats, ferry boats, luxury yachts, mega power boats, sailing school skiffs, dinghies, row boats, they are all here and all contribute to the general mix that make St Martin interesting. At this time of year there is plentiful rainfall and the hill around town are vibrant green. The breeze is still cool, especially at night. In the daytime its hot and the midday sun is intense, so jumping off the back of the boat into the warm turquoise is a delight. When we visit other anchorages and harbors and especially the marine parks system of the French Islands, there are often turtles, rays and reef fish to be found.
Breakfast and a picnic lunch are included in the package but dinner and alcoholic beverages are not. There is plenty of room in the fridge and freezer for anything special you want to bring along and the cupboards are usually well stocked.
Bruce Farr is a well known designer of fast offshore and racing yachts. Beneteau, probably the world's largest and most experienced boat builder, took one of his designs and modified it to suit their clientele, cruisers and charterers who like going fast but are not out and out racers. The result is a blue water boat that is sea-kindly fast and comfortable, and fitted out below with excellent veneered joinery. And, because its a French design, a large galley/cooking area. There are 3 queen size berths, one forward in the master cabin and 2 aft. One is for the skipper, the two others are for the guest

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

St Martin/St Maarten is quite different from the Virgin Islands. Some of the sailing can be in open water and everybody's favourite place to visit, St Barths, can be a challenging sail when the trades are piping up. Its not for everybody. But if you have an adventurous spirit you will like it. If you are feeling more like hanging around tranquil beaches, dining out and exploring different restaurants, then Anguilla is a better choice and a more protected sail. There are lots of brilliant anchorages with the most amazing white sand beaches and restaurants on the beach to suit most tastes. The Anguillans are friendly and hospitable and laugh easily. St. Barths is more like an impromptu fashion show, where everyone is parading the latest fashion statement and closely observing your clothing.
One of the things its hard to describe is how well adapted St Maarten/St Martin is to boating. As well as a number of protected bays and anchorages, nearby uninhabited islands and numerous marinas, its possible to travel to many parts of the island either by dinghy or the local bus service. Lots of restaurants are accessible by water as well as land. There a 2 distinct cultures and its reflected in the cuisine of both sides. If you are more into steak, potatoes and cheeseburgers, the Dutch side is a good choice, But it also offers international cuisine from all over the world, as well as Creole cooking.
On the French side the cuisine is more traditional French. In almost every restaurant, after the bill is settled, the waiter will come by with a bottle of the house specialty, a flavoured rum infusion. Each restaurant has their own jealously guarded recipe for producing an unusual and delicious variety of Caribbean Rum. But be warned, its very smooth and goes down very easily, so before you know it you have sampled a good few glasses
