Here is why: Gabriela uses a specific tactic to secure a better rate—a method she employed in my case as well. Initially, her husband found the property and obtained my phone number from a neighbor. He contacted me and, after expressing how much he liked the place, asked if I would rent it to them privately—bypassing the platform—at a lower price. Naturally, I refused. Eventually, after inspecting the property and knowing its exact location and layout (which was suitable for a small child and an elderly lady), she booked it through VRBO. I met them in person upon their arrival and showed them around; they liked the house and raised no issues regarding cleanliness, mold, or anything else. The following day, a fault in the main power grid left the entire area without electricity for about an hour. Gabriela seized upon this situation to demand a price reduction, despite my explanation that this was a case of *force majeure* and beyond my control. To achieve this, she claimed—falsely—that the property was lacking in various respects (e.g., cleanliness, internet, etc.). She even used these same false pretexts in her communications with VRBO. Eventually, I was forced to tell her that I would take legal action in the Greek courts if she persisted in using false excuses to lower the price. Only then stopped. My neighboors told me that the same practice she used in the past.
