Wonderful night's stay and dinner experience

A big thank you to our host Tobias for a wonderful stay - and an exceptional dinner and breakfast. We really couldn't fault anything, from the warm welcome and charming room to the outstanding meal and the little touches like sherry and our name on the door. Would highly recommend this to anyone who likes something a little different and appreciates older buildings and history. A Premier Inn this is not - and all the better for it!

Lovely stay

We had a lovely stay celebrating my best friends birthday. The staff member who looked after us/ran the tour was extremely friendly, interesting and helpful. The room and general location were beautiful. The only downsides to the stay were: - The shower dripped constantly - The full cooked vegetarian breakfast wasn't a great selection; perhaps wrongly, we'd expected some meat alternatives for Bacon/Sausages/Haggis/Black Pudding. We were provided Mushrooms, Scrambled Eggs, Potato Scones & Aubergine. We would definitely return if we're in the area again. Thanks all!

Perfect hosts, incredible room, delicious breakfast and the location is perfect. We absolutely loved everything and next time will stay for a week instead of just two nights!
Our bed was so comfortable & the view is over the gorgeous Sunken Garden.
This space is timeless.
The breakfast in here was a dream come true.
Atmosphere and delicious food.

Overnight Stay

An overnight stay at end of 2 week trip in the UK. Great setting, very peaceful and quiet. Tobias was helpful and communication leading up to visit was good. Intriguing place and fair play to the lads in undertaking the restoration project. Would have no problem returning.

Peaceful retreat with excellent food and surrounded by majestic landscapes.

I had a wonderful few days reading and writing at Buittle. The food is tremendous and lovingly prepared, and the rooms are charming. The grounds are also perfect for a quiet stroll and reflection. Strongly recommended!

Simply tremendous

We spent three nights here and were thrilled. The property itself, the history of the house, the ambiance of the room (we had the Lady Maxwell Room) and dining room, Tobias's kind and warm manner, and the wonderful night's sleep were all delightful. The optional set menu is also highly recommended.

A gem of a stay !

We love Buittle Castle ! This stay in the lady Maxwell room was an extended return stay from last time . We feel blessed to have found this castle ! It is so quiet , cosy , welcoming and is steeped in history . Tobias the host will make you feel so special . He is charming and attentive without being over barring ! The breakfast is fantastic and the great hall where you eat your breakfast is spectacular! The grounds are lovely and the hot tub under the wisteria is a must try even in the dark because you can sit and watch the stars twinkling . There is no tv and believe me you do not miss it because it adds to the charm and experience of this wonderful place ! We cannot wait to return ! Thankyou Tobias for making us feel so special and looking after us all even our little Yorkie last Juliet ! Run don’t walk to book this lovely castle ! I can assure you will not be dissapointed ! ❤️

Fabulous stay at unique venue with wonderful hosts!

The castle is a truly special place - be sure to get a tour, particularly of the 1000-yr old chapel. Delicious breakfast and beautiful room!

Wonderful historic property

An absolutely lovely stay! Tobias was incredibly hospitable and the grounds were beautiful. We had both dinner and breakfast, as well as wine. All were so delicious and next level. The grounds were breathtaking and so quiet in the evening for a restful sleep. The lady Maxwell room was beautiful and comfortable. It was lovely to have gone to the Caerlaverock Castle before our stay and learn more about the Maxwells. Tobias opened up the family chapel for us to view before our departure and we were so grateful for that. My only regret is not being able to stay longer!

More than a standard B&B

I have stayed here a few times. The location for exploring south west Scotland is excellent. The key issue in this area is finding somewhere to eat in the evening, so this time I opted for the dinner provided by the B&B. This was very good, and certainly way better than you might find in local pubs (if they are open...).

Just a one night stay to celebrate birthday

I was greeted and very well looked after during my stay. The evening meal was delicious as was the enormous breakfast I had. Although I slept in and was later than I said I would be it wasn't a problem. Looking forward to going back when weather warmer and drier to walk around the grounds znd gardens.

Amazing castle holiday

I had an amazing two day break at Buittle Castle. The place was amazing, beautiful location and Tobias was such an attentive host. Everything was provided that we needed and Tobias had extensive knowledge of the castle and area. I would highly recommend this castle as a holiday destination. The castle caters for small or large groups.

Excellent, dog friendly location

We recently stayed one night at the castle and found the room to be comfortable and clean. The breakfast was as described and was brought to our room at the time requested. We particularly enjoyed the riverside walk around the castle which is easy to follow and met the approval of our dog.

Fabulous. Historic. Comfortable.

Such a great and unusual, quirky stay in a small castle. Steeped in history - but with a hot tub! Excellent communications, delicious well-cooked food and a great hall to eat it in, to boot. Unforgettable and highly recommended.

A cosy, historic stay

We only stayed in the Lady Maxwell room for one night but would recommend it. The dog-friendly and spacious room had everything we needed. The booklet in the room explaining the history of Buittle Castle was an interesting read. Breakfast was delicious and it was a treat to get to eat in the historic great hall. The grounds are beautiful and the area was very peaceful.

Beautiful Property

Beautiful property. Well appointed. Lovely breakfast. Added bonus of a hot tub. A bit difficult to find.
