A fantastic house fully equipped for a large family stay. Beautiful rooms and secure garden for children. Lovely location within a short distance to Cartmel village and racecourse. Host and communication was just great with no issues. Definitely stay here again Andy G and family

We spent a long weekend with family in this lovely house which was perfectly situated for us to celebrate our son’s 30th birthday enjoying Cartmel’s delights. The kitchen is well equipped & suited our family chefs perfectly with plenty of crockery, equipment and a great range cooker, which isn’t always the case in rental houses. The Weber BBQ was plenty large enough for our crowd of 12 also. It was very dog friendly for our two Bernese Mountain Dogs with a secure garden & a utility area for them to chill in. It is a bit mind-bending, however, with the kitchen & living areas upstairs to take advantage of the fantastic views and the bedrooms were split over both floors. They are large with comfy beds, good bed linen & excellent modern bathrooms. Slight drawbacks were rather small fridges, but there is a freezer, and for anyone with mobility issues, it’s probably not the ideal property. We loved it & would love to return in the future for another family stay. Highly recommended!

Just to clarify to other potential guests, the house sleeps a maximum of 10 guests and 2 infants in cots. The mention of 12 people in the review included 2 day visitors for the BBQ who didn’t stay overnight.

Fantastic break

Stunning property just a short walk from the beautiful village of Cartmel. House was immaculate and very comfortable for our party of eight plus dog. Would definitely stay again.

Beautiful house in a great setting

Great place to stay for touring south Cumbria . The house is very large and plenty of bathrooms to use. Good parking for a number of cars . I would certainly not hesitate to stay at this house again at any time of year as the views are fantastic from every lounge window.

Perfect family break away

This was the perfect place to relax and enjoy Cartmel. The instructions and tips about pubs, walks, etc, was a great help. The house was clean and well equipped. The summer house was perfect!! We had x2 dogs, they loved garden and all the walks in the surrounding area. We will definitely be back!!!

Exceptional country house

Wonderful property with top class furnishings. This spacious property is one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. The gardens are superb with spectacular views. The heated summer house (with fridge!) makes for very pleasant evenings when the weather is cooler or even wet. A very pleasant 20 minute walk into Cartmel.

Lovely property in delightful setting

Smooth although I thought the early payment demands were a bit much. Garden views were lovely unfortunately we had poor weather,property well equipped and warm.

Perfect place for a relaxing week away.

From the moment you get to the bottom of the drive you’re struck by how beautiful the house and location is. The views are amazing. The house itself is querky. Two Bedrooms downstairs along with a playroom and cloak room. Living room and two more bedrooms upstairs which all have great views. Bathrooms are all lovely. Amazing kitchen if you like cooking which is well equipped. It’s about 30 minute walk to Carmel so we tended to stay in in the evening...the dining room is an amazing setting. Great base to explore The Lakes.

Carmel Hill, Easter Weekend

We were a 3 generation family of 6 adults, 4 children and Missy the cavapoochon. Cartmel Hill was the perfect setting for a fabulous Easter weekend. The house was perfect, and had everything we needed to make meals and snacks. The house has stunning views across the bay to Grange. Sheep and lambs in the adjacent fields. Our cars dud not move all weekend. We were able to walk into Cartmel, which is a delight. Good food, music and beer. Communication with Simon at Cumbria Cottages was terrific. Thanks Simon

A very special place in a beautiful location

The property was large, clean, and furnished with everything I could need. Parking area is large, clean, and right outside the door to the property. Kitchen was kitted with quality equipment (pans, knives, utensils, etc) Bedrooms were fully equipped with everything you would expect. The rear of the property has excellent with good quality summer house. The property is very remote, and would recommend to drive to the property in daylight (at least for the first time) if you're not comfortable with narrow country roads. Saw deer outside of the property, and the views were amazing. Highly recommended.

Cartmel Hill

The property is in a beautiful location and overall is a good sized family house . It is well stocked with essential equipment . Surface Cleanliness was ok but could def do with deep clean everywhere . The shower door is missing in the ground floor bathroom which means water goes everywhere . The seal on one fridge is faulty and the freezer is iced up and so impossible to use. The biggest problem we had was that the rear garden fence was broken down . As we had two dogs with us and the adjoining field is full of lambs and sheep this meant that the dogs had to be tied on rope in the garden the whole time which was a real nuisance. This is an expensive property and as such needs some tidying up to reflect that . It would have been nice to know that the Cartmel races were on whilst we were there, although we had village 2 passes ( but we had three cars ) it was extremely busy with cars and people. Despite all we had a lovely week away in the Lakes.

Hi Steve, Thank you for your 4 star review. As you know, I was in touch with your wife every day for the first 4 days of your holiday. I emailed your wife, Lynne before you arrived to explain that the previous guests’ children had broken 1 part of the fence and that I would get the guy we use for fencing to repair the damage as soon as possible. When I emailed Lynne to say I had someone coming to fix the fence the next day, Lynne emailed back – “please ask fence guy not to come tomorrow as we are planning to chill at the house. Friday after we have gone is more convenient”. I therefore respected your wishes and got the fence repaired on the changeover day after you’d departed. I’m extremely surprised that neither you nor Lynne mentioned any of the complaints in your review to me during our friendly email exchanges. If Lynne or yourself had raised any issues with me during your stay, I would have rectified them immediately. As you’ve only raised these issues 8 days after your holiday via this VRBO review, I wasn’t able to address the points you’ve written about in your review. I inspect the house, garden and summer house before every changeover. We don’t use a cleaning agency, we use 2 local housekeepers that ensure the house is spotlessly clean for every booking. However, if you’d let me know during your stay about any issues with the cleanliness, I would have sent our housekeeper immediately. The house has 3 bathrooms. I’m assuming that you’re referring to the wet room. There isn’t a shower door in the wet room as it is a fully tiled wet room and has a partial fixed screen. I checked the seal on both fridges yesterday as soon as I read your review. The seals are in perfect working order. I can only assume that someone in your group might not have closed the fridge/freezer door properly which would have caused the fridge/freezer to ice up. Again, if you’d let me know during your stay about any issues with the fridges or freezer, I would have sent someone to fix them immediately. I don’t really know what to say in regard to your comment about Cartmel Races. I gave you 2 ‘residents passes’ that gave you access to drive through the village centre on the 2 race days. I also advised that on the 2 race days, to avoid driving through the village centre and instead, I gave you an alternative route that avoids the village centre and only adds 1-2 minutes to the journey time. Birthday celebrations 😊

Our party of 10 had a fabulous time together in the house. It’s clean and well equipped with everything you could need for a great stay. Cartmel was approx 25min walk away and a lovely little village to visit. All in all, I would recommend staying at Cartmel Hill House and hope to return at some point.

What can I say, just returned from an unbelievable weekend, all that spoilt it was the weather but guess you expect that in January, the house blew us away, with its unbelievable views to feeling right at home even though we was on a break, house is well equipped with everything you can think of, couldn't fault it. Amazing Weekend

We had an amazing weekend. The cottage is so cozy,clean and spacious. Everyone had an amazing night sleep. The views are beautiful. The cottage its self is tooked away in the mills outside of cartmel toen, a real getaway but with luxury. Amazing showers/bathrooms. A large kitchen with every thing you might need. Wifi and entertainment. Will definitely be going again. Thankyou simon for an amzing stay xoxoxo

Luxurious holiday house with outstanding views

This holiday home had everything and more and we settled in immediately. Comfortable, stylish, large bedrooms, clean, stunning views and all the amenities you could wish for! I can highly recommend this house.

Perfect place for your Lake District visit

Our little getaway to Lake District would not have been as a fantastic experience as it was without the stay at Cartmel Hill. It is a perfect place to run away from the city as it is located in the stunning countryside. The house is kept in ideal tidiness, and it’s is visible that things are well looked after. The communication with the host was very welcoming and easy, as well as the check-in process. Everything was very well thought through, and we truly enjoyed our stay. From the moment we arrived, we felt like being home, and that’s all you could ever want after a long hike. We would love to return.

New Year at Cartmel Hill

Fantastic New Year stay at Cartmel Hill. Everything about this cottage is great. Very comfortable immaculately clean. Beautiful views well equipped. Excellent communication with Simon. We will be back. The Johnson/Fryer family.

Lovely spacious house

Cartmel Hill is a lovely house in a good location with a great view of the valley and estuary. The house was clean and warm and just as shown in the photographs with plenty of space, a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. The summerhouse is a great feature, allowing us to benefit from sitting outdoors at a time of year when it may not otherwise have been so appealing. Simon provided all the information that we could need to make the most of our stay and we are already looking forward to another holiday at the house, hopefully in the not-too-distant future.
